Your Alias: Kevin

Character Name: Professor Sybill Trelawney

Reason: I would like to play this character because I have always had a fascination with Divination and the character. I have studied many forms of divination and can say I am knowledgeable on the subject. I also feel that I could bring something to Trelawney that we may have been left out on from the books. J.K. did not put everything she had about characters into her books and I feel there is more to Trelawney than just the ditsy, disaster seeing witch. Why does she only see misfortune, how has her life been being the descendant of a well-known seer? I hope that by role-playing Sybill that I can develop answers to my questions.

Sample of Lesson List:If we are going along with the stories, Divination isn’t taught until students enter their third year at Hogwarts. I have also split the terms in twos because of winter holidays

Term 1:3 Auramancy: Aura gazing
Term 2:1 Theomancy: fortune telling/ potential seers

Sample Roleplay: This Sample is an interpretation of the tormented side I see Trelawney as, why she may truly never leave the castle.

Hogsmeade was overwhelmingly quiet as a bony woman walked out of the three broomsticks. She could not be more than twenty-nine years old and yet she was on her way back to Hogwarts castle. It was dark and the clouds were ominously suspended in the sky, thunder erupting from within. Through her thick framed glasses, Sybill could see things at a magnified size and the cobblestones were clear and the path was free obstacles. It seemed like an ordinary spring afternoon: the spring brought the storms that would supply water to the lands that surrounded the castle.

Normally she would not have ventured outside the castle so late, but time had gotten lost in a bottle of sherry. It was hard being a new professor especially since most of the teachers were well matured and had been teaching for over half a century. It is possible that some may have been there longer: the true age of some witches and wizards are unknown. The three broomsticks was sort of a comfort zone after Dumbledore had hired Sybill only a few months ago. She had moved into the castle but rarely had she been anywhere else. Things had been partially calm since her new employment, but all was not as they seemed.

Somewhere in the middle between Hogsmeade and the castle a loud noise much like a gunshot echoes across the lands and made Sybill jump. By now Sybill knew that sound came from a witch or wizard who apparated nearby. Sybill’s pace quickened as she knew that no one should be apparating at this time of night. It couldn’t be good news. Suddenly a rustling noise came from bush mere feet in front of her. Sybill stopped frozen in her tracks. She quickly clutched her long slender wand made of elm with a dragon heartstring core. Her bony fingers trembled as they clutched tightly around the wooden handle. “Sh-sh…show yourself,” Sybill said with a tremor in her voice.

Suddenly from the shadows a tall hooded man appeared. His wand was extended and his voice was deep and demanding, “He knows you have prophesized his demise and for that your doom is upon you.” Confused, Sybill looked at the man with a million questions. Suddenly a shower of sparks flew out the tip of his wand. Sybill quickly shot up her own wand screaming, “Protego.” She was a skilled witch but she did not know if her schoolings have prepared her for this. Sybill flicked her wand in two swift movements; one shooting a stream of white lights at her opponent the other causing the ground under his feet to go soft like mud. Deflecting her first attack, the hooded man slid on the ground and fell hard. Sybill quickly took the time to run in hopes she would make it to the castle.

Sybill was then launched off of her feet and slid into the ground skidding a few feet. She had been hit with a spell directly in the back, a sharp pain pulsed through her body hurting every fiber of muscle she had. She quickly turned to face her opponent, her fingers clawed at the ground below. “Crucio!” Suddenly Sybill’s body twitched as her body was being tortured. Her mind was pulsing, racing, and going through memories at such a rapid pace it hurt. The pain was endless and maddening at the same time. A sound of pure agony ripped through the air and lingered in the humidity. Tears began to stream down her face, her hair becames rather wild like that of a beast. "Cruio," the hooded figure bellowed once more. Suddenly the frantic movements Sybill's body had been experiencing stopped. The man edged closer to his victim and looked over her motionless body.

Tears flowed from beyond the large black rimmed glasses. Why? What have I done to deserve such a thing? Did I actually prophesize something, could it be true? Sybill's body was still but her mind was still racing with questions in hopes of finding some sort of answers. Why had Dumbledore been so reluctant to hire her? It was true that Sybill's lineage possessed one of the greatest seers of all time, but her talents were never truly tested in school. She only exceeded in her Divination class becasue she showed promise, never the GIFT.

After a few moments passed, the hooded figure spoke once more, "Pathetic, why are you even worth my time. I was ordered to torture you into madness, but why take that road when death could come at an instant. I could do it, but the Dark Lord would not be happy. CRUCIO!" Sybill's body once again flew into a rage and her voice echoed across the land with a revolting scream. Suddenly the spell was broken, the man was gone, and Sybill was floating in the air back to the castle. Her vision was clouded with the salty tears that lingered in her eyes. Someone had saved her and through the thick corrective lens the smallest hint of an elder man in a brilliant red robe peered into her vision. "Dumbledore..." Sybill sighed as she closed her eyes and drifted into the world of dreams.

***

Sybill awoke in her dormitory with a high pitched scream. The pleasant dream world had been replaced by darkness and a constant vision of last night. She sat upright looking around the dimly lit room hoping it was all a dream. Her bony fingers stretched across a patchwork quilt and found the large framed glasses that sat upon her bedside table. Her vision instantly cleared and her breathing calmed. She was safe in the tower of Hogwarts. She was now terrified of the world beyond the walls of the castle and vowed never to venture past the large oak doors.

After a few days Sybill paced the Divination classroom; her movements were frantic, twitchy, and overall paranoid. She would bump into tables and immediately look upon them with a feeling that someone had moved them; only to realize that is was her readjusting the classroom mere moments ago. Only one thing lingered on Sybill’s mind, what had she seen that would want her tortured? True she had talents in Divination in school, but had she really had the gift or did her teachers grants her the grades because of her ancestors? No answers were clear, but hopefully with time all could be answered.

I have gone back through and added a bit more to the roleplay. I realized that I left out something that should have never been left out. I can only imagine what one could feel while being tortured and I tried to express that feeling into words. Though I may need to find a good book to read that possibily could give me some insight.
