Welcome to the Shire of Eoria! We are an Amtgard chapter in Boulder, Colorado. We meet every Saturday at 1:00pm, at Scott Carpenter Park. What Is Amtgard? Click Here for the Wikipedia Article Amtgard is a non-profit, free to play, live action roll playing game. Basically, you remember those nerds in Middle School who played Magic and D&D? Yeah, we're those people after they made it to college and became more successful than you ever were. And we've moved from imaginary violence to physical violence. In it a player can assume the identity of their choice, create a character, and play with other imaginative individuals who want immerse themselves in a fantasy environment. There are many different ways to play, from mastering the more complected rules involving magic, to simply swinging foam swords around and having a good time. Amtgard is open to everyone young and old, though players are required to sign a waiver, and those under the age of 18 must have their parents sign for them. Are you those guys who dress up and run around in costume? That's embarrassing, I'm not that nerdy. We can be. Some of us do, some of us don't. Really it's a mixed bag. But that doesn't mean you have to. If you want to come in jeans and a t-shirt, go for it. If you want to show up in plate mail, awesome. We enjoy our roleplay as much as the next guy, but we know some people just want to come and swing swords. We're totally cool with that. So whether you want to deck yourself out with mage robes and magic balls, or just pick up a sword and start running, whatever you're looking for can probably be found here. Provided what you're looking for involves foam sword battles. Wait, waivers? How Dangerous is this Game? Not very, actually, especially since everyone playing is extremely respectful. We're here to swordfight, not beat each other up, and we exercise a lot of control when we play. Newcomers are required to learn the rules on their first day, and are personally instructed by the monarch of Eoria. If we see any excessive force, foul play, or something that is going to get someone else hurt, we ask that person to leave the field, and we take our toys back. Everyone has fun, no one gets hurt - that's the goal. Besides, this chapter was started by a close group of college friends who wouldn't hurt a fly if it was holding their mother at gunpoint love fantasy and adventure. We don't run around hitting people like trucks, we want everyone to have fun. Because if you're in a group that is having fun by hitting people with foam swords, and you're not having fun hitting someone with foam swords, then something is very, very wrong. We here in Eoria know that fun is why were here, and we make a conscious effort to make sure everyone, no matter the age or skill level, is having a blast. Did I mention fun? That brings us to the weapons themselves - Pool Noodle, Bamboo, tape, cloth cover - that's about it. We're hitting each other with pool noodle. It doesn't get much safer than that unless you'd like us to switch to paper swords - and even then we're pretty sure it's easier and more painful to get a paper cut than to get hit with pool noddle. Be that as it may, accidents happen. We have a variety of rules in place to make sure no one gets hurt, but we know we can't prevent everything - that's why the waivers are there. That's pretty cool I guess. What do I need to play? Just follow these simple steps! Step 1: Sign a waiver Step 2: Get on the field, these wars ain't gonna win themselves. We have plenty of extra swords that anyone can use, and if you show up with nothing, congratulations! We just want you on the field, the swords are here waiting. Now, with that in mind, if you enjoy the game, making your own weapons is both cheap and easy, and we can teach you how. We want you to keep coming back, because the more people we have, the more fun the fights are. Age Requirement? The official Amtgard rulebook asks that all players be above age 12, but we don't mind fudging that a bit. We've had 8 year olds beating the crap out of us back and forth, and we're just fine with that. Be that as it may, anyone under 9 or 10 is usually only fighting with our Monarch, and doesn't really get to participate in group battles. We only do this because we don't want anyone hurt, especially not the littler kids. They can play, and we'll make sure they have a ton of fun, but it will be off to the side with someone who can supervise. Where can I get more information? There is a link to the official Amtgard rulebook on the main forum page. It will tell you everything you need to know about the game. However, we here at Eoria realize that you don't have a full set of plate mail in your closet, and if you do, you're probably doing something way cooler with it than what we're doing here. The rulebook is pretty strict on certain things like garb, and dressing medieval. Don't sweat it, we're not going to penalize you for not running around in the sun in your dwarven studded leather battle armor. |
