I was attacked today by a vicious ransomware/malware combo called Citadel Malware/Reveton Ransomware that attempts to lock you out of your computer unless you pay through a monetary medium. In this particular case, it was the FBI asking for me to pay a fine for illegal downloading (rediculous, because I ALWAYS check for authenticity). Unfortunately, even after I managed to work around it, its still working in the backgroud. Another bad thing is that after doing some research, I found that it can also potentially steal information, mostly to find a way to siphon money out of your bank account. I found this out after I had already logged in multiple times to this site, my internet social accounts, and my email. There is a good chance if you ever receive anything from me by email, it is DEFINITELY not me. Also, it may be strongly advised to safeguard this site. I don't know how damaging it could potentially be, but I do not want to take this jokingly for myself or any of you either. |

Sorry to hear that. Get antivirus in the future. And don't visit sites that look fishy. |

Thanks for the heads up! Much appreciated. Yes, antivirus software would be helpful. Maybe you already have one and it just didn't catch this virus? There is some pretty good free antivirus software out there too if you don't want or maybe can't afford to pay for one of the subscription based antivirus software (it can get pricey sometimes...but it's worth it if you can afford it). |

I actually just read about this in my daily issue of the DTRA/FBI Counter Intel Working Group's "The Cyber Sheild" yesterday. here is a unclass article on it from a news outlet: http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/news/2197262/cyber-crooks-use-of-police-virus-ransomware-on-the-rise |

I had Macafe or Mcaffe or McCoffee or something like that for the longest time now. I think for 2-3 years now? And there was absolutely no warning at all, I just went to a gaming site that I normally go to, and bam! There it was, messing up my computer. At this point, no type or amount of all-consuming hellfire can describe my rage against the asshats who made this accursed thing.

Never pay for antivirus, that's bullshit. I have a free one (avast!, the least invasive one I could find, it works pretty well) and I've never gotten a virus. You just need to know how to protect yourself. And I'm pretty sure McAffee (or w/e) is crap. But yeah, people suck.

Not really a trial version, I don't even know what random stuff they shove in the paid version, because the free version is still a full antivirus program. |

I don't see a free option, only a trial. All other options are payments for 1-3 years. I don't think it will matter right now until I get the malware off my computer.

Or I could just do what my father just did and restore my computer to a date previous to when I got the virus, then scan for it, quarantine it, and delete it. And I'M the one going for a degree in computers.

Chez: don't know if you solved your issue, but Avast Antivirus has a 100% free version available. The trial was likely for the paid version. |
