'CHURCH OF PURITY' SWEEPING AEZAKMI
Once-Small Religious Group Emerges from the Shadows

It isn't difficult to notice the recent rise in religion across the country. One can hardly have an hour of peace without some new believer tapping at the door, brandishing pamphlets, or walk down the street without passing a stall full of would-be missionaries. The once practically unopposed Enlightened Church of Aezakmi is losing influence, in favour of dozens of much smaller groups. Even atheism, the nation's largest 'faith', seems to be diminishing.

Leading this charge is the 'Church of Purity', which is now estimated to be the largest religious body in the country after the ECA. What sets it apart from the many other faiths cropping up, however, is its age. While most of these new faiths are either imported from some other culture, or less than five decades old, the Church of Purity goes back almost as far as the Enlightened Church itself, but up until now it has existed only on the fringes of society. Why the sudden rise to prominence?

The answer is Anton Hassan, leader of the Puritans, known by his followers only as ‘High Prophet Hassan’. Emerging seemingly out of nowhere, much like the Church he leads, Hassan came to the Church of Purity at a young age and was immediately hailed as a great prophet. A natural born leader, his uncanny talents for Puritan theology and public speaking have rallied the Puritans to his cause, and brought about the Church’s unprecedented growth. His rousing messages, preaching the virtues of purity, strength, and faith, have apparently struck a chord with millions across the nation.

Others are not so enthusiastic about ‘Prophet’ Hassan’s rise to power. Enlightened Church senior pastor Tyler Tomis has called the Church of Purity ‘nothing more than a fringe cult’. “This ‘Puritanism’ is not only ridiculous, is is, quite frankly, becoming dangerous. The ideals that this ‘Hassan’ espouses can be downright frightening. I can only hope these people will come to their senses."

Religious leaders are not the only ones concerned with the burgeoning Church. Many view Anton Hassan as a sociopath, labelling his doctrines and beliefs as ‘radical’ and ‘extremist’, and the Church as a whole as a potential threat to the stability and security of the country. This seems to be a view held by a number of government figures, too.

The Church of Purity, however, seems to be unfazed by the controversy surrounding it, with its ranks of followers still growing. It seems that only time will tell what the real agenda of Anton Hassan and the Church of Purity is.

OOC: This is only an introduction. With any luck, this will be the lead up to much bigger events.
