So why is the AB enforcing a policy that is out of touch with reality. I've provided the following examples for you: States that claim the same territory and got similar names and who got international recognition: (The Republic of China The Peoples Republic of China) The Republic of Korea The Peoples Republic of Korea Democratic Republic of The Congo Republic of Congo here's some successor states for y'all who got legitimate claims, but have kept their names when they abstained those claims Lithuania France Norway Denmark Sweden Finland Russia Germany Italy Spain Portugal Austria Moldova Bosnia-Herzegovina Serbia Croatia Another principle that should be known for the AB States decide whatever they want to be called in their constitutions if they got 'em. Official Status (UN membership) Decided by the UN, but it is possible to have two members in there at the same time who claim the same territory North Korea and South Korea is an example that comes to mind, several Pacific Island states as well. Successor State Decided by the UNSC, and should be simmed by the players. I have yet to see any legitimate argument from the AB other than "We're doing it this way because we feel like it." and the AB is not unanimous and decides to go against the wishes of the players.. All the names you mentioned are different in one way or another. Starnes is trying to claim to be the United States of America. What says that everyone else can't go saying they're also the United States of America? Like I said, it would be a cluster fuck. |

To use a historical example, the Kings of England and later of the Kingdom of Great Britain claimed the title of King of France up until the end of the French Revolution. It was up to the rest of the world to sort out whose claim was legitimate. In this case, it would be up to the Int'l Admin to decide which name to recognize (like is the case in Taiwan vs. Republic of China), and for the player-controlled foreign nations to decide how they wish to refer to the land formerly known as the State of Texas. |

No it would not; and you know Why? Because Bill Malcolmson said so... but seriously: We've had several historical examples on the opposite, the British claimed to own France and they had a working diplomacy. The French claimed to own the Spanish and they had a working Diplomacy. Territorial disputes over Alsace didn't stop Germany from interacting with France and Visa Versa. Denmark opened an embassy in Oslo while their official name was still Denmark-Norway. Starnes official name would be the United States and other states tend to go with that form as a courtesy in diplomatic relations, what in part fucked up this game last time around was the completely unrealistic simming of Great Britain and NATO... just to quote Reagan; "Here we go again." I would also remind you that Bosnia Hercegovina got an autnomous province named Rpblika Srpska (the Republic of Serbia) and guess what a country right next to that republic is called.... 10 points if you answered Republic of Serbia. Also FYR Macedonia and the Greek province named .... Macedonia 10 points once again. and let's not forget the numerous German city states with similar names. |

I believe Baker agreed to that in the Sign In thread, and I very much highly doubt this issue will arise again. But I do agree we should let players choose whatever crazy name they can come up with -- this specific one was just unique because of the significance of the name, at least in my opinion. |

Americans think they are the only nation in the world again..... EDIT: to elaborate, France was the biggest country in terms of population and a superpower in every other aspect than on the sea during the revolutionary years, they had more citizens than any other europan nation and a stronger bureaucracy. It was quite rude for the British Monarhcs to refer themselves as the just rulers of France... Edited by Bill, Sep 24 2011, 11:14 PM.
