So why is the AB enforcing a policy that is out of touch with reality.
I've provided the following examples for you:

States that claim the same territory and got similar names and who got international recognition:
(The Republic of China
The Peoples Republic of China)

The Republic of Korea
The Peoples Republic of Korea

Democratic Republic of The Congo
Republic of Congo

here's some successor states for y'all who got legitimate claims, but have kept their names when they abstained those claims

Lithuania
France
Norway
Denmark
Sweden
Finland
Russia
Germany
Italy
Spain
Portugal
Austria
Moldova
Bosnia-Herzegovina
Serbia
Croatia

Another principle that should be known for the AB
States decide whatever they want to be called in their constitutions if they got 'em.

Official Status (UN membership)
Decided by the UN, but it is possible to have two members in there at the same time who claim the same territory
North Korea and South Korea is an example that comes to mind, several Pacific Island states as well.

Successor State
Decided by the UNSC, and should be simmed by the players.

I have yet to see any legitimate argument from the AB other than "We're doing it this way because we feel like it."
and the AB is not unanimous and decides to go against the wishes of the players..

I'm not going to let Minnesota rename itself "Norge" eller "Dansk" either. Bill kan du være så snill å bli fornøyd?

since I'm bilingual:

They could call themselves the Kingdom of Sweden for all I care, the Swedes wouldn't like it, but its their supreme right as a nation to name themselves whatever they want to.

De kunne like gjerne kalt seg Kongeriket Sverige for min del. Svenskene ville nok ikke satt pris på det, men det er deres suverene rett som nasjon å kalle seg hva enn de måtte ønske.

Not cool, no hebrew!

Edit: and for the record, I do listen to the players on a great many things, however this decision, over something as simple as a name, is in place for all of our sanities.

Texas = The United States for me... as a direct consequence of this :p I planned on referring to them as Texas, but that has changed.
