House of Commons Passes "1-Child" Bill, Queen Vetos In a peculiar move the House of Commons voted on the Population Control Act, which limited all non-royal families to having only one child. Exactly an hour later Queen Sophie used her royal veto to repeal the Act, claiming it is a infringement on basic human rights. "All people, no mater what race or nationality, can have as many babies as they can afford and provide for..." she stated in a press release. Minister of the Commons Francois Merchallet tried to institute a reversal vote on the Veto but there is no current Royal Charter for such a motion. The majority of the population do not like the Population Control Act. In a polling session conducted by the Royal Society for Public Opinion 83% of people said they did not approve of the bill. John Stone, a farmer from Wales, said he needs his 5 children to keep his farm running. This is the third attempt by Minister Merchallet to pass a bill that attempted to control the population, with the first 2 failing the House vote. |

Queen Sophie Orders Military Up-Grade, Commons Agrees With news of the German Empire adding to it's military fleet Queen Sophie has met with the Secretary of State for Defense and the First Secretary of State to discuss the safety and security of the Kingdom. They've decided that the military must be larger to protect our national borders. They presented a plan to the House of Commons which called for an increased number of tanks, an increased number of ships and a re-armament of the troops with more modern weapons but required taxes to be raised to fund the plan. The Act, know as the Military Support Act, passed the House of Common 827 to 566. The upgrade is expected to begin in the next month. |

Jeff Brown Releases Anti-German Book Author Jeff Brown of Scotland, who has had 6 European Globe Best Selling books, has released his latest book, titled "Reasons to Secure the Franco-German Border". In the book Brown lists 10 main reasons to secure the border, citing reasons from World War II to the new increased German Military. He issued a call to arms of all young men and women to join the Royal Armed Forces and request to join the Border Security Battalion. He went as far as to call Germans "the single largest threat to [our borders] after God's wrath". No member of Her Majesty's government has commented on the book, which so far has sold 19,875 copies after 2 weeks, although Queen Sophie reportedly bought a copy. According to an unconfirmed source Minister of the Commons Francois Merchallet sent an email to the Queen, asking her to use the book to form government policy, but this has not been confirmed by a reliable source. |

Queen Sophie Issues the "Stuart Doctrine" Before closing the House of Commons for the day Minister of the Commons Francois Merchallet read a decree from Her Imperial and Royal Highness Queen Sophie named the "Stuart Doctrine". The Doctrine, modeled after the famous Monroe Doctrine, declared "all lands that where held by my ancestors, the Stuart Monarchs, at the time of their forced abdication are hereby in the sphere of influence of the United Kingdom". This includes, the former American states of Virginia, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, North and South Carolina, Delaware and Georgia, the Canadian Provinces of New Foundland, Nova Scotia, Quebec, the Caribbean Islands of Saint Kitts, Barbados, Nevis, Antigua, Barbuda, the Bahamas, Anguilla, Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Dominica and the South American nation of Belize. The Doctrine does not force the United Kingdom's sovereignty over the areas, but warns their governments to stay in the favour of the Queen or face repercussions. After the Doctrine was read at the House of Commons the Queen read it from the Western Balcony at the Royal Place in Versailles and the Southern Balcony of Buckingham Palace by Prince-Consort Alois. The public response from within the Kingdom has been very positive and strong. No foreign governments, as of yet, have officially responded to the Stuart Doctrine. |

Sophie Looks To Spain? In a rare interview Minister of the Commons Francois Merchallet hinted at the plans for the Kingdom. When asked how he felt about the great size of the Kingdom he said "It could be bigger." When asked what lands he wanted added to the Kingdom he said "More Southern lands, like those directly to our south." Our experts have taken this as an allusion to Spain, the border with which has become increasingly violent over the past year. Some experts have also called this a hint towards the former American colonies, which would explain the vote taken in the House of Commons today to institute a military draft. The vote passed, but requires an additional vote tonight with the Queen present to make it official. It passed with a margin of 298 votes, so it will most likely pass again tonight. Spain has long been thought of as the next jewel to be added to the crown after Prince-Consort Alois made a comment which basically said we should start teaching our soldiers Spanish. Will Spain be conquered soon, if ever? Will the British Empire rise again? If it does the Globe will be here to report it as it happens. |

Chancellor of the Exchequer Denies German Claims In an early edition of Imperial News from the German Empire the United Kingdom's economy was said to be "bleeding money with no end in sight. Any attempt to match German military might will merely speed up the fiscal decay." Chancellor of the Exchequer Daniel Borne denied these claims, saying the budget is actually very balanced and could afford another military upgrade, on top of the one issued a few weeks ago. This years budget included an extra 15 million dollars for various projects to be determined at a later date by the House of Commons. According to Borne the Kingdom's economy is doing better then ever, with the London stock exchange up 1,600 points from last years average on this day and the average income is up 500 pounds from last year. He did not comment on the German economy more then saying it was an equal rival for the Kingdom's own economy. Also, the military draft vote passed the House of Commons this evening and is to go into effect next Tuesday. The exact mission the draft was wanted for is still unknown. |

Prince of Wales Passes On Today is a sad day for the United Kingdom with the loss of Joseph, Prince of Wales. Prince Joseph had been fighting off a bought of pneumonia for the past month before his death tonight at Clarence House. The news was released tonight by Clarence House in a simple press release which read "To all peoples of the world, near or far, the earth is a little darker tonight with the passing of His Royal and Imperial Highness Prince Joseph of Wales. He has been returned to God's kingdom, where he may rest in peace. A service will be planned in the coming days." When told of her son's death Queen Sophie allegedly replied "Is that so?" before going to her private chamber at the Palace of Versailles. Hours later she made an appearance on the Eastern Balcony, where she looked at the gathered crowd, smiled and returned inside. Her private secretary has issued a letter, announcing that Joseph's eldest daughter, Anne, is to be styled Her Royal and Imperial Highness Anne, Princess of Wales and is the first in the line of succession to the throne. All flags are to be flown at half mast for the next 2 weeks. |

Stamp Act of 2020 Passes In the House of Commons, after vivid debate, a new tax has passed. This tax is on all paper items, from cigarettes to playing cards to newspapers, and adds an extra 50 pence for each pound the paper item costs. If you bought a copy of the European Globe, which costs 1 pound previously, you would have to pay 1.50 pounds. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has said that this new tax will increase government revenues by almost 25% over one year. The Act passed the House of Commons 1,043 to 350, with voting crossing party lines. Minister of the Commons Francois Merchallet called this new tax a victory for the people, saying that the increased revenues will be used to fund new public transportation systems and to upgrade the Armed Forces to keep the Kingdom safe. The Act has been received fairly well by the public and received Royal Assent 45 minutes after it was passed. |

Queen Gives Address on Spain After the INN ran an article claiming that the Kingdom was ready to go to war to add Spain to the crown Her Royal and Imperial Majesty Queen Sophie immediately met with the press and addressed the claim. "I have never stated a want to annex Spain, nor has anyone in my government. Minister Merchallet was not speaking on behalf of my government in his interview with the European Globe nor did he ever say 'We are going to invade Spain'. I would never think of invading Spain, as His Majesty King Juan Carlos I is a capable and able ruler. He is ruling Spain very well and does not foreign intervention. The world's reaction to Minister Merchallet's interview just goes to show how important alliances are in this ever changing world where half of it's countries jump to war before the word is even whispered." After delivering this address the Queen returned to the Palace. Minister Merchallet was not available for a comment. |
