That's actually the legendary Royce Gracie he's facing... the same Royce Gracie that won UFC 1 and 2 as well as having a long undefeated streak during the early days of modern-day MMA. Though personally, I think his style is more suited for use in the Octagon ring rather than on the streets. |

That's not Royce, Royce always fought with a full gi, so that he could grab his sleaves to better choke the idiot that thought taking a Gracie to the ground was a good idea. Unless of course, this is recent, and he's changed his style. |

Yes, this is Royce. The same Royce who couldn't handle Sakuraba's unorthodox style and had to throw in the towel. I haven't a clue where his gi is... But I do know he beat big ol' Akebono. |

Oops, I know when I'm beat. Mayhap if he'd have had the gi, he'd have won. Just a thought. |

He had the gi when Sakuraba beat him. He didn't when he beat Akebono. |

I was gonna say, where is his gi... Sakuraba = Gracie Killer. Needs to retire though, unless I've missed something in the last few months, and he's done everyone a favour. |

He doesn't need to retire, just update his form. Pro wrestling MMA fighters just don't seem to cut it anymore, especially against all these Brazillian Jiu-jitsu fuckers (esp. Nogiera!)... Sucks, because their style is so much more entertaining. |

Yeah, this guy who owns the gym I go to is really into MMA. He's got his own self-defence school (well, actually it's more renting a room in the town hall) where he teaches a customised martial art which is a mix of boxing and jujitsu. Personally, I think those two are a good combo as in a real fight on the streets you'd use punches and low kicks first and if going in close use the throws, chokes, etc. Gracie Jujitsu is designed to be used inside the Octagon rather than out on the street. Best way to defeat a Gracie, IMO, is to ignore any strikes they do as that's not their strong point. The striking is used as a destraction so they go shoot in and grapple which is where they are practically unbeatable. Also NEVER go down to the ground with them as you'd get locked up with a choke in a second. Keep the fight standing up and go for those boxing combos as Jujitsu teaches to block and counter ONE punch rather than what a boxer would do and fire a volley of them. |
