So I watched the movie last night, and I think by the way it is a great freaking movie. But it got me thinking about the actual number 23 and how it is everywhere. For example take my first name, Jason. J=10 A=1 S=19 O=15 N=14 1+0+1+1+9+1+5+1+4 = 23. My room mate's name is Barbi, and her nickname is Barb for short. B=2 A=1 R=18 B=2 2+1+18+2=23. I just had my 23rd birthday on the 23rd of Feb. I went into the Marines on 10-28-2001. 1+0+28+2+0+0+1 = 32 which is 23 backwards. I EAS'd (got out of active duty) on 09-07-2005. 0+9+0+7+2+0+0+5 = 23. I leave in Denver, CO. Denver shortened is DEN. D=4 E=5 N= 14. 4+5+14 = 23. The first 6 numbers of the telephone number for my apartment building is 303-377. 3+0+3+3+7+7 = 23. That freaking number is everywhere. It's starting to wig me out a bit. I swear I am not crazy though. |

Ya, it is pretty freaky. Thus far I've only seen a preview but it does indeed look good. But ya, I don't know if the numbers thing really works on everything or everyone. I mean; J=10 0=15 S=19 E=5 P=16 H=8 .'., 10+15+19+5+16+8=73 I mean, I do have a three in there and if you skint your eyes and turn it so, well, you won't make a two out of the seven you'll just look really stupid. Party on, Joe. ~eat snacky smores~ |
![]() Follow Pet's Twitter if you don't mind...you know, Pet being Pet. Also, she tends to mention it a fair bit. (NSFW) @ThePetFBGP | |

Amazing! There's a 23 in my username! And Jo-Jo? 7+3=10=2*5=2*(2+3). It can always be done. Which gives you 2*(2+3)3. 23 twice. I remember the first time I mentioned the 23 enigma to someone, she scoffed as people tend to do before Jim Carrey puts out a movie on the subject, but then got stuck behind the 23 bus before pulling into lot number 23. I looked pretty smug. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know what they tell folk about the enigma in it, but most people simply don't grasp the purpose behind the 23 enigma. They think it's either true, false or a bit of both. That's not the point. The point is that given enough ingenuity on the part of the interpreter you can always find 5's, 23's, rabbits, whatever. Whether you believe or not, the fact that your subconscious is now aware means you can start to notice the 5's, 23's, rabbits, whatever. As RAW put it, you achieve enlighment when you realise that while the 23 enigma isn't literally true, neither is anything else. If your brain can manipulate you into seeing a pattern of 23's, then imagine what else it's doing. Everything is a perception, conforming the infinite number of signals and impulses into a belief system of which you're already aware regardless of the reality or truth of the situation. As Hassan i Sabbah said, 'Nothing is true, everything is permissable'. |

Stephen King does it with 19 in the Dark Tower books. It's unnerving, until you realise that it is just your subconscious making you see all these everywhere... |

Somewhat. Less so than the possibility of it being real, though... |
