So my day started off with the plan to attend my niece's 1st birthday and spend some time with the family. Well after about two hours into a very Hallmark, but nice birthday party for a 1 year old I got a call. Marbles told me to get my ass down to Red Robin because they had an extra ticket to Ozzfest. Unbeknown to me at the time, all Ozzfest tickets are now free for the rest of the tour. Irregardless I have been dying to go to an Ozzfest since I got out of the Corps. Last year they didn't hit Denver so I nearly flew to Kansas City. Anyways we get there and find some seats in the grass. I get bored and wander around to find a guy handing out promotionial tickets for Godsmack next week. I of course end up grabbing four of them. (They are already taken so don't ask) I rejoin the group and after a bit get bored again. I head to the second stage as I forgot it was even there. I catch the last half of one of my favorite bands and the closer for the second stage, Hatebreed. Man I love that band. Anyways some DVDs are being handed out but the guy runs out just as I get there. However I manage to haggle getting some actually seats for the Main Stage instead of just the grass. Well feeling like I am the king kong shit for getting real tickets I head over to the group. I am sorely dissappointed to find out that they have no desire to move to real seats and would rather stay on the hill. So after Hatebreed the second stage closes up and we all wait for the main stage to open. In the meantime some jackasses are standing in everyone's way as we are sitting on the grass. I end up heaving some bottles at their head and getting them to move. Anyways Lordi comes on the main stage and tell everyone to immediatly stand up. We never sat for the rest of the show. Lordi has their gear on and they put on a decent showing in my opinion. Yahoo 1 & 2 (AKA Helena & Kristen) didn't like them but I thought they were ok. Static X are next and they rock the house pretty well actually. Not the biggest SX fan but they did a pretty good job. During their first song some kid in the mosh pit got so jacked up like 10 staff members had to treat him and eventually carry him away. So, here is the fun part of the night. Remember how I said I started throwing bottles? Well that may or may not have been the starting point of the war to come but that is neither here nor there. In between Static X and lamb of God people just start randomly hurling empty beer bottles at one another. They are of course plastic so no harm no foul. Well this evolves into the chaired fans againist the grass fans in an all out blitzkrieg war. In the midst of the hailstorm of flying bottles comes a new element. People are tearing up hunks of grass and adding them to the fray. Suddenly the bottles stop appearing and we are left with an all out grass heaving war. It was a blast that had to involved at least 3 or 4 hundred people. So the grass war ends when Lamb of God hits the stage. And you want to talk about one of my favorite bands? Yeah I went apeshit. They rocked the house sideways and back again. It was awesome. Then it was time for the Prince of Darkness himself. It was what you could expect, Ozzy playing to the crowd and the fans eating it up like there was no tomorrow. Awesome ass show though, don't let me diminish it in anyway. Loved every minute of it. Strange part was that nothing off his new album hit the stage. It was all the classics. Which works for me because I was underwhelmed by his latest CD. Zach Wylde? Wild? Wyld? Not sure how it's spelled but Ozzy's lead guitar man did a sick ass solo for like 10 minutes that eventually led into him playing The Star Spangled Banner in a wicked fashion on the electric. So in closing amazing show, if you don't live in Denver then check out the website to see if you can score some free tickets as well. |

I dunno, Jon Benet, Kobe Bryant's rape charges, Columbine, Oklahoma City Bombing trials, and the list continues. You would be surprised how many escaped convicts are found coming to Colorado in an attempt to hide in the mountains. |

Sounds like the exact same show I went to in Seattle. Except Lordi sucked balls, so did Static X. Lamb of God was amazing and so was Ozzy. He did play a couple new songs at the Seattle show. BTW...All tickets were free for the grass and pit. The seating cost money but only like $40. Though my general thought on the whole show mirrored yours except the Lordi and Static X part. |

I said that I was disappointed by Lordi. Or at least I thought that is what I said. I like their records but they were sort of placid live. I didn't think they "sucked balls" but I was rather let down. Static X on the other hand was impressive, and I hate their stuff usually. |
