I just got done listening to mine own voice, since I recorded myself doing that promo. Well, just my voice. I did not try to sound like Anna.

I complained in that one playlist thread that people don't actually converse about the music in these threads, and then I never really contributed in that aspect. That's awful of me. I'm listening to this whole fucking thread. Right now. … well, not the songs I posted. But everything else. My thoughts follow...

1. DNCE - Cake By the Ocean
This song is great. That is all.

2. One Direction - Perfect
One Direction has better songs, but this one is OK. I like the moog in the background through most of the song.

3. Nick Jonas - Levels
I don't know if I hate this or love it. Will do more research, let you know in the future.

4. Ellie Goulding - On My Mind
Not terrible. Not especially groundbreaking either. I feel like better artists did better music in 2015. 2015 was a good year for music.

5. Rachel Platten - Fight Song
Not my cup of tea. Not hateful. This isn't my fight song. My fight song is probably Fight Song. Bonus points for the cool moog again. Good moog in 2015.

6. Death - Spirit Crusher
There's a tendency in metal to just suddenly stop what you're doing and play a different song for a little while. Usually that song is not played very well, even when compared to the rest of the track. I do not like this tendency. I'm aware lots of people do, so to each their own, but I do not. This song is otherwise decent.

7. Suffocation - Infecting the Crypts
"This shit sounds like 1994", I thought. 1991 I guess is when the album dropped. Close enough. I feel like if the guitars sounded a little cleaner I'd really dig this track. I'm not a huge fan of Cookie Monster vocals, like, as compared to other styles of singing? But it fits the style just fine.

8. Ellie Goulding - Lights
I've heard the chorus a lot before, which is pretty good. Don't care for how she sings in the verses. A bit too much "very serious 2015 indie singer" in her voice, and that's a vocal pattern I very much do not care for. Music is good and chorus is kickin' tho.

9. Death - Painkiller
I prefer the original, but this isn't without merit.

10. Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire
Still as good as it was the first time I heard it, when I was but a little boy.

... which actually may have been in 1989 when it was released. Huh.

11. Five Finger Death Punch - Wash it All Away
Not their best single, but still a damn good song. Reminiscent of the directness and sentiment of early nu-metal without actually... y'know, being nu-metal.

12. Tech N9ne ft. Corey Taylor - Wither
Corey Taylor is a fucking dick, but I usually dig his music, and I've been a Tech fan for a while. That being said I'm not sure how I feel about this track. Switches tracks too much for my taste. Most of the different tracks are good, but I would've rather seen a song devoted to each of them instead of them shuffled all together like this. Also, since Corey dropped his Slipknot persona, he sounds less and less interesting... and interested in what he's actually singing.

13. New Order - Elegia
Nice. Chill. Powerful. New Order knew their shit.

14. Foxy Shazam - Wanna Be Angel
I dig this. Although I couldn't tell at first if it was a tribute to the 70s or it actually was formed back than. The former, as it happens. I'm gonna need to check them out more.

15. Schaffer the Darklord - Supervillain
I'm not 100% sure on this guy's voice… but he also gives people like me who aren't the best at rapping the kind of encouragement I need to… actually rap. I have a full Mega Man 3 and most of a Mega Man 4 rap written. I'm just not… sure about my actual skills and I sure as hell can't remix the music to sound more… hip. Anyhow, this is pretty fun. I'm glad it exists. I like the music a lot and there's a lot of good lines.

16. Craig Armstrong - Weather Storm
I'm not familiar with this, but I like it a lot. It's simultaneously very moody and very cool. Reminds me of a less bombastic Clubbed to Death.

17. Sora no Otoshimono ED5 - Yuke! Yuke! Kawaguchi Hiroshi!
That wasn't really my thing. I liked the king of the jellyfish tho.

18. The Cult - Fire Woman
This intro rocks my damn socks. You can tell this was the shit that led into grunge; late 80's rock n' roll sludge. Great for driving down the highway in the middle of the day, I reckon.

19. Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There
So I didn't recognize this song by the title, and I was like "Wait, is this the one that goes "I'm givin' you everything…"? No, that's called This I Swear, I think…" No. Turns out that's this song. I like this song well enough. I think they had better, but it's fine.

20. Seinabo Sey - Hard Time
I dig this a lot. Good music, decent voice… didn't care for the video, but I ain't gotta watch it to enjoy the song.

21. Motorhead and Ozzy Osbourne - Hellraiser
This mashup is cool, but it would've been cooler if they actually performed it together instead of it being mashed up. A few places the discord of the instrumentals fucks with the awesomeness of the song, and I wanna say I prefer Ozzy's version's music in general… though I might be thinking of a different cover. Still tight.

22. Owl City ft. Hanson - Unbelievable
Hanson is better when they do blues, Owl City is great at making music but these lyrics are… I mean, a nostalgia trip, but not terribly… good. Fireflies is the only good song I've heard by them.

23. Plan Three - Brush It Off
Not a fan of this at all. Combines a lot of stuff about post-Nu Metal that I just wasn't a fan of. I dunno, maybe I just feel like nobody could ever touch what Staind did at their best… even Staind.

24. Evans Blue - Erase My Scars
This is better enough that I like it. The screaming parts help. I dunno. It's not an especially unique sound; if you told me this was Seether, maybe Mudvayne, or even Breaking Benjamin, I'd believe you. It's well-done tho.

25. Breaking Benjamin - The Diary of Jane
Oh, hey Breaking Benjamin. I was just talking about you. This song is as good as it was ten years ago. I was sort of falling out of this genre at that point, but it was hot among a lot of the FIW crowd and on the radio… or whatever I listened to. So I heard it a fair amount.

26. Skillet - Hero
I feel like this was in something like a WWE game or something? *Googles* Ah. SDvR 2010, as well as Royal Rumble 2010. That was pre-Network so I'm sure it was the game I recognized it from. Also that intro sounds like a Linkin Park song? Something early, Hybrid Theory or Meteora. Skillet has some decent songs, but they overall sound a little generic. Monster was probably their best.

27. Apocalyptica - I Don't Care
This was fine. More of a genre I'm… OK with. Not really my jam anymore. Apocalyptica is a good band tho.

28. Godsmack - I Stand Alone
YEAH! Godsmack was cool. I dig this song. I remember listening to it all the time back when I was in high school, and my friend had the MI2 soundtrack which was full of really great tracks even if the movie was fucking stupid.

29. Sneaker Pimps - Six Underground
FUUUUUUCK YES. Sneaker Pimps. This song is amazing. Yes! Yes! Yes!

30. Duran Duran - Come Undone
Duran Duran < INXS, but they're still awesome 80's new wave and I still dig them a lot. So there.

31. Seven Mary Three - Cumbersome
The song they always sing on Game Grumps! I'm gonna actually hear it in real life now. Shit this is good. Hm. Maybe I HAVE heard this song before… I seem to know all the lyrics.

32. Michael Jackson - Dirty Diana
It's Michael Jackson. It's good. Not my favorite track of his, but it's still better than… fuck, most music.

33. Katy Perry - Wide Awake
I know this tune as 'Bouncing Blades' by Plentakill. I'm… not sure I've ever heard the original lyrics. I'm also not sure I knew this was Katy Perry. Maybe dimly? I don't care for this. I don't care for most Katy Perry stuff, as it happens.

34. The Who - Love Reign O'er Me
This isn't bad. I like The Who in general, but they're not really one of my favorites and there wasn't really a lot going on in this song lyrically. Lots of passion though, and the music was of typical Who quality, so it's far FAR removed from a bad listen.

35. Bloc Party - She's Hearing Voices
Yeah, I think I really dig this. Reminds me of the early 2010s, when everybody was going really experimental in rock. And oh, it's from 2009. How 'bout that?

36. Death From Above 1979 - Crystal Ball
Another really great song! I enjoy this a lot.

37. Matt and Kim - Lessons Learned
This is less my jam. I don't hate it, probably wouldn't switch past it on the radio or something… although if I heard it a lot that dude's voice would piss me off. I might've been into this in high school. It sounds like The Cure meets Interpol.

38. Primordial - Where Greater Men Have Fallen
I really dig this track. Guy has similar vocals to Chris Jericho, except more refined. More musical. The music itself is also really good, great bass line and drums, great cadence. Tight song.

39. Veil of Maya - Phoenix
Not bad… not really my genre, but I think it's a good example of its genre. There's a lot of Mushroomhead-y production to it and I dig that. Just not a big fan of the vocals.

40. Obituary - Visions in My Head
Eh. I appreciate the double kick, but overall this song isn't really something I'd listen to.

41. Jazz Addixx - Body Flow
This is tight. The production is a little different than I'd usually listen to, but the lyrics are decent and I appreciate the actual jazz inspiration.

42. The Roots - Thought Is Like
I mean… it's damn good. Flow and style. Decent backing track. It's The Roots.

43. Rush - Freewill
IT'S FUCKING RUSH.

44. Black Sabbath - Sweet Leaf
IT'S FUCKING OZZY.

45. The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice
IT'S THE FUCKING BEACH BOYS. Also this song always makes me think of 50 First Dates… for better or worse.

46. Shinedown - Cut The Cord
How the hell have I not heard this before? That fucking intro. That fucking chant. THIS IS SO GOOD. The verses are only OK, but man does everything else make up for it!

47. Tech N9ne - Beautiful People
I've been a fan of Tech N9ne for a while. Don't know his full discography like a lot of artists, but I don't know I've heard a song of his I didn't like. I dunno if this is a remix or a mashup or what, but I like it.

48. Lupe Fiasco - Hurt Me Soul
I like Lupe Fiasco a lot, though I haven't heard much by him. This is great, too.

49. Lauryn Hill - Ex-Factor
I'm… just not a big fan of R&B past the 70's. She's got a nice voices (which I'm sure isn't news to… fucking anybody), but this just isn't the kind of music I wanna listen to.

50. Lamb of God - Vigil
Not my favorite Lamb of God song… that would probably be Laid to Rest. But still… y'know. Technically good. Decent sound. The bridge is pretty killer.

51. Tinashe - Bet
I actually kind of dig this. It's kinda like Sneaker Pimps, but in 2015, with a little more hip-hop influence. The world needs more sneaker pimps, or more chillout music in general.

52. Motorhead - Line in the Sand
It's amazing how some of Lemmy's best stuff was written for HHH.

53. Kanye West, Jay Z, Big Sean - Clique
I don't know if you guys know this… but I like Kanye West a lot. This isn't one of my favorites of his… the repetition of "clique" gets a little annoying, but only a little, and the music is awesome, as are the other lyrics.

54. David Bowie - Blackstar
I'd be lying if I said this was my favorite Bowie song… but I see it as less of a song and more of a statement, anyhow. A gorgeous statement. A lot of this album was like that… a lot of his work in general. Like the George Carlin of music; he kinda stopped doing what you might call a normal song and became… something so much more. A walking statement wrapped in a riddle. The world is less for his absence. The middle bit, the "meat" of the song is really good, though. Funky, but wistful.

55. Scar Symmetry - Quantumleaper
Not bad. I think I would've been super into this about ten years ago. Now it's… fine. Not enough to blow my skirt up, but still quality. Chorus is pretty good.

56. Steam Powered Giraffe - I Love It
I kind of hate this song. Steam Powered Giraffe makes it more palatable, but only when I'm watching the actual video... or if Rabbit is singing.

57. The Cog is Dead ft. Steam Powered Giraffe - The Incredible Jelly Donut Juicer
… is that one of those McElroys? *Google* It is not. Looks like him. I don't really care for this song. It makes me jealous of Rabbit's transition though. I'd love to hit that voice better without Estrogen… need more practice, I guess.

58. All In Together - Professor Elemental
Fantastic message. Decent vocals. Don't otherwise care for the song.

59. Lionel Richie - Dancing on the Ceiling
Classic. I remember watching this on VH1 a lot. Lionel Richie is amazing.

60. Lamb of God - Erase This
Pretty decent, though I kind of forgot I was listening to it after a while. Better than the last song. Still not as good as Laid to Rest.

61. Spice Girls - Outer Space Girls
This song sounds fake. Like it was made for a movie… actually, I'm remembering Spice World had them meet aliens or something… and this was cut from Spice World… so… yeah. I guess it sounds like what it is. Beat's funky.

62. JonTron - Firework
He's not the best singer in the world, but damn it if he doesn't do it with passion. Like he does most things, I suppose, even though he maybe oughtn't…

63. Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
Skid Row's cool. This song's not bad. Youth Gone Wild came on after though, and that song's kickass.

64. Britney Spears ft. G-Eazy - Make Me
I find myself wanting to be more harsh about this than it probably deserves, just 'cuz I know Britney can do better. It wasn't terrible. Not my preferred style. Rap verse was mediocre. I dunno. Just not what I like to hear out of Mz. Spears.

65. P.O.D. - Murdered Love
There's a short list of bands I'd rather not hear again as long as I live. P.O.D. is on that list. This song has not changed that in the least. I've never heard a bunch of motherfuckers trying so hard to sound cool and failing since high school.

Which was the last time I listened to P.O.D., coincidentally.

66. Dir en Grey - The Final
Dir en Grey's OK. They're not… I dunno, they're not really my thing. Too moody and I don't speak Japanese. They're not bad, I just like my Japanese music more upbeat like Hyadain or Granrodeo… or Maximum the Hormone. I don't hate it. I used to listen to The Cure, after all.

67. ACCEPT - Stampede
Oh I fucking like this a lot. They're like AC/DC with better vocals and better music. So not at all like AC/DC. I REALLY REALLY like this a LOT. Thanks, Sticky.

68. Zakk Wylde - Sleeping Dogs
I like Zakk Wylde shredding face, not morosely telling me a sad story.

69. Mercyful Fate - 9
I don't particularly care for this. It's sort of droning and discordant in a way that makes it hard to listen to. If the music were different it might be OK. It's just tonally abrasive. Like the sound of water going down a drain. Vocals are OK.

70. Hoodie Allen - Fame is For Assholes
I'm putting this guy on the list with P.O.D. I can't finish this one.

71. Strapping Young Lad - Love?
Thank you, yelling man. Thank you I barely remember that song now. This is good. Tuning sucks, but the track is good.

72. Skeletonwitch - This Horrifying Force (The Desire to Kill)
This is pretty groovy. Music is GREAT, vocals are OK, but they really go with the music so I like that. It does that tonal shift thing I don't care for, but the guys in the band have talent. These guitars are exceptional.

73. Cypress Hill - Jump Around
This song was cooler when I was 14…

74. General Public - Tenderness
This is harmless and fun.

75. Kiss - Unholy
This is good. I prefer Paul Stanley on vocals, but it's a good sound overall. Kinda grungy.

76. Talib Kweli ft. Kendrick Lamar and Curren$y - Push Thru
This isn't bad. Nice chillout groove, decent production, good flow. Like the hook. Overall, a fan.

77. Tinashe - Player
Ew, Chris Brown. I like the disco-y sound and the club chorus. Otherwise it's just not really the kind of stuff I actively listen to. If Chris Brown weren't in this, I wouldn't switch it off if it came on the radio.

78 - 80. Aaliyah - Are You Ready, Rock the Boat, One in a Million
I'm running out of ways to say "I generally don't care for R&B but I recognize the people responsible are talented".

81. J. Cole - False Prophets
Not bad. Relaxing, good flow. Good message. Good as hell, actually. Reminds me of what happened when Bill Cosby was revealed as a date-rapist. He was a pretty big father figure to me growing up, and I felt… kinda fucked up when that came out. Like a lot of the morals I built my life around and some good times I had were just… based on so much falsehood, I crumbled for a while. I dig the sample in the chorus, too. Nice track.

82. DNCE - Truthfully
First DNCE song I don't care for. Ah well. Was bound to happen.

83. Freddie Mercury - There Must Be More To Life Than This
It's hard to really, truly dislike a song Freddie Mercury is singing in. His voice is just so… good. Powerful, smooth, full of range, melodic… this seems to have a more uplifting version of the message from "Under Pressure", but I VASTLY prefer that tune. This music is… I don't even know what this genre is. Easy listening?

I DID IT! Only took me a few days… and I probably should've done the playlist thread where I actually made those comments 'cuz there were a lot more songs in there and it was a little more recent… but I didn't realize that until well after I started. This was a fun distraction, and I found a few new tracks/artists to enjoy. Thanks, guys!

I just saw T.I. a couple days ago and it was a ton of fun, so I have been going through his and Hustle Gang's playlist.

Currently it's Bdtdt by London Jae.

Also been playing the new Seven Kingdoms (American power metal) album and the new Unleash the Archers (Canadian power metal) singles for their cd that is coming out next month.

OK, now that I'm finally back from work, I decided to reply to part of Wighty's post. But just the metal-related parts.

"Spirit Crusher" by Death: The second part of the band's existence was when Chuck Schuldiner went into progressive/technical territory. In fact, some of the songs on The Sound Of Perseverance were supposed to be part of the debut for his Control Denied project but he agreed to do one more Death album before committing to Control Denied full-time. This is very typical of what he was doing then. Granted, as hugely influential as he was on progressive death metal, I think that Atheist and Cynic did it better. Still love this, though, since it's charged with so much complexity that even some of his other second part albums (including the much-praised Symbolic) lack.

"Infecting The Crypts" by Suffocation: Ah yes, from the classic Effigy Of The Forgotten album. A great example of the more brutal stylings that tend to comprise New York's death metal scene. Frank Mullen's vocals are a good deal more understandable from this time period compared to some of his contemporaries. He's actually gotten clearer with time, too. FUN FACT: Suffocation is part of the Long Island Music Hall Of Fame. Along with, among many others, Louis Armstrong, Debbie Gibson, Tony Bennett, and Mariah Carey. Better HoF than the Rock 'n' Roll one.

"Painkiller" by Death: I prefer their cover of "God Of Thunder" more but this isn't bad.

"Hellraiser" by Motorhead and Ozzy: Sorry, Motorhead alone did it better.

"Where Greater Men Have Fallen" by Primordial: I have got to listen to more of them. I really do. They tend to get listed as "Celtic folk/black metal," which doesn't do them quite enough justice. AA's vocals are not blackened on this track, although on "Empire Falls," another massive favorite of mine, he goes harsh for part of the refrain. Ireland's best metal band right now, easily, and all of their albums have gotten heavy acclaim.

"Phoenix" by Veil of Maya: Very uninteresting not-quite-deathcore. There's bands who do it better (Fallujah in particular, although they're much more of a progressive deathcore/progressive death metal band).

"Visions In My Head" by Obituary: A lot of people did not like this album. The new one is supposed to be a lot better. Having heard a song from that and now this, I can see why. Obituary has done better.

"Sweet Leaf" by Black Sabbath: It's OK. Much better than Six Feet Under's awful cover, anyway.

"Vigil" by Lamb Of God: OOFA. Starts off a bit slow and then explodes. Yeah, not as good as anything from Ashes Of The Wake onward but still insane.

"Line In The Sand" by Motorhead: It's fuckin' Motorhead. That is all. Oh, and Lemmy is still missed by metalheads everywhere.

"Quantumleaper" by Scar Symmetry: I know Christian Alvestam is no longer with the band but this is a band I really need to get into more.

"Erase This" by Lamb Of God: Good song, good album, but "512" is a better song from the album.

"Slave To The Grind" by Skid Row: The second album they did was better and heavier than the (still good) first. And yes, I do tend to listen to this a lot when I leave work. Have I ever indicated that I fucking hate my job?

"Stampede" by Accept: Funny that you mention AC/DC. The biggest hit that Accept has ever had in the over four decades of existence was "Balls To The Wall," which I kept thinking for years was an AC/DC song. Accept has had a different lead since their reformation a few years ago, and Mark Tornillo does a great job of replacing the great Udo Dirkschneider. I actually quoted this song in one of Shaelin's promos last year.

And you're welcome.

"9" by Mercyful Fate: No disrespect to the legend that is King Diamond, but he's done way better.

"Love?" by Strapping Young Lad: The man, the myth, the legend, DEVIN TOWNSEND. He's not normal, and we are all better off for it. The live version of "Love?" from The Retinal Circus is even better. In fact, that entire concert is made of amazing. Example here with one of the softer songs from his wide-ranging repertoire.

"This Horrifying Force (The Desire To Kill)" by Skeletonwitch: Blackened thrash. YES. Maybe not as good as the almighty Goatwhore (almighty status solidified after being name-dropped on Elementary) but certainly brings the blackened forces of hell to bear in the vocals.

You weren't kidding about this God of Thunder cover. I was really digging it and then the funky bass became clearer in the second verse and I'm like "this is great". Good juxtaposition, great cover of the original while still putting your own flavor on it.

I don't listen to as much metal as I used to, of any genre save industrial. I got so into electronic music in general when I found KMFDM that I listened to less and less non-electronic metal genres as time went on. And the music changed as well, so I stopped listening to new stuff...

Like, looking at my master playlist the metal I have is divided between Kalmah, Dethklok, 3 Quarters Dead, Austrian Death Machine, Body Count (thanks Dai), Disturbed, Dragnerve, Drowning Pool, Five Finger Death Punch, Flyleaf, Ghost, Goblin Cock, Godsmack, Grand Magus, Guano Apes, Hellyeah, High On Fire, Iron Maiden, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Lollipop Lust Kill (GOD I MISS THIS FUCKING BAND), Machine Head, Manowar, Mastodon, Megadeth, Metallica, Motorhead, Ozzy, Probot, Rob Zombie (of course), Seether, Volbeat, Motograter, Alestorm, Dragonforce, Eluveitie, Kamelot, Kropiklaani, Yngwie Malmsteen... and if you count industrial metal, Electric Hellfire Club, Genitorturers, Gothminister, KMFDM, MSI, Mushroomhead, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, NIN, Powerman 5000, Porcelain and the Tramps, PT Grimm and the Dead Puppies, and Rammstein.

Most of my actual "obscure" stuff is in pure industrial, ska, and punk...

Just found out about the passing of the great Gregg Allman.

In his memory, I'm listening to a song I used as my entrance theme towards the end of the first OC fed I was a part of.

This cover of "Gold Dust Woman" needs to be an entrance theme NOW. This is the kind of song that makes one pound the side of the barricades.
