Early 2K18 Notes

Too early for actual previews, but this does offer a few highlights. I know the news of intergender competition will get over well around here. 8-person matches, Create-A-Match, and "the brand new Road To Glory mode, one of the new forms of online content for the My Career campaign".

So, is it too early for the speculation to begin?

I'm so happy i don't have to hear JBL anymore. He's the worst thing in the game as far as commentary goes. We finally have Corey FUCKIN Graves! and i'm so happy they're using the stuff for commentary that they use for the NBA games. If it's anything close to that it's going to be like heaven man. I'm so happy they're fixing the trash known as My Career mode too. It's been awful since it came to be a thing and i'm happy we'll get more story in a thing that actually needs it. This game has promise now and besides being able to have nakamura and styles at wrestlemania any time i want i might just have to save up and maybe even pre-order this one.

Maybe faster would be a better term to use. But yeah if we get intergender matches i can make FIW on 2k!

No, harder. I'll SLAM my credit card down on the counter and YANK the game away from the nice GameStop lady. And then shout "GRAAAH! WRESTLIGN!" as I stomp out of there. Just like that, with the typo and everything.

I preordered two days ago, so it's a moot point for me. My first thought on the CAW archetypes was "will there be an 'online' archetype? A 7' Juggalo with lots of cheap moves?" That's the part that has me worried about the online elements of My Career.

I can never really tell about that stuff until I have it in my hands, so I don't tend to worry about it too much.

THANK GOD FOR GRAVES AND SAXTON! I wish Mauro or Philips were the third man, though. Ah well. I know Cole would be there. Stunned Saxton made the cut, but damn I love him.

Mixed gender has me intrigued! It was such a throwaway line, though, and oddly worded to the point I can't trust it yet. They mentioned it alongside the up from 6 to 8 so I worry it's just increasing the amount of players that can be in Mixed Tags (like maybe now you can do Six-Person Mixed Tag matches so tag teams can be with a female superstar).

I would love to get intergender options back in this game, but I'm not holding my breath. I am, however, intrigued and gonna be paying attention.

I follow them on Twitter so there's been a lot of stuff tossed out by various people. These are going backward in time because I'm too lazy to format them properly.

HERE is the official press release.

HERE is notable WWE gaming YouTuber Chris "Danger" Denker talking about the game. He's well-known for often being invited to pre-release events, getting insider info, and hangs out with Xavier Woods. Highlights include;
- No female career mode, unfortunately.
- No custom music; again, it's a limitation of the CONSOLE not a limitation of the GAME itself.
- Pretty sure no "GM Mode", though Universe mode is still there and expanded. So...
- No 2K Showcases have been ANNOUNCED yet. He thinks there will be just like last year's DLC showcase, but it's unconfirmed.
- Not available on PS3 or Xbox 360. PC launch will be delayed as usual. No confirmation on Nintendo Switch version. He even asked.

EGMNow article about the game's content. Clarification highlights include...
- Women in ladder matches. Did we lose that before? We have it back now.
- Road to Glory mode? Announced, but no clue what it is.

Uproxx article about the game.
- Comments on short video they were shown of side-by-side comparison between Randy Orton's old model and his new one. VERY visible differences. Better skin, better fabric-looking textures for trunks. Better lighting.
- A little more explanation about the new drag/carry systems.

Dev Summit Overview by lugeyps3. No clue who she is but she's Verified, and I kinda like her. She was invited out to a conference with people talking about what worked, what didn't work, etc.
- Mentions the WWE cell phone card game Supercard ALSO has a mode called "Road to Glory".

A tweet mentioned that Female MyCareer was DISCUSSED. So perhaps in a future installment? Again, NOT 2K18 tho.

Steve and Larson's Going in RAW seems like a legit-looking podcast. Part of their podcast opening has Enzo singing a song about them, so that's nice. They were also invited out. I just subbed to these guys, they seem cool.
- I guess these guys run their own video fed? They said the new additions would make stuff easier for that, and give them more options. Boy and I were considering running TWA like this, so that could be cool.
- They speculate "fighting styles" might be new default movesets. Which would be a fucking relief for me, because I hate trying to figure out what the wrestlers do to set up a decent baseline for my guys.
- MyCareer mode is harder on story, and that's why it's a shorter experience.
- Backstage free-roaming in MyCareer? We did that before. It wasn't good... but that was at least ten years ago. Maybe 15.
- Road to Glory is online multiplayer game mode. I dunno if I said that, others have...
- You can SAVE your created matches and book them later. That's much better than the old "adjust everything on the fly" version.
- Jojo is the new ring announcer, I didn't see that anywhere else, everyone talking about the commentary team.
- They were given more consistent access to the commentary team, so they did more recording of the TEAM side-by-side so the commentary is more organic, less canned/stilted.
- Different crowds for different-sized venues, audio-wise. For example, smaller arenas you can hear individual people shout things from the crowd.
- More interactive objects backstage. Parking lot/loading dock.
- Position feeding seems to be kind of like how in the ring wrestlers position themselves for moves they know are coming. When you get knocked down in the corner, for example, you might pull yourself to a sitting position.
- Re-vamped Royal Rumble. Hmmmm...
- Redesigned Elimination Chamber with new animations. Probably using the new design as well.
- Better search feature/fidelity in online creations.

Nobody mentioned men vs. women explicitly, so I'm gonna assume that was just oddly-worded stuff from other articles giving that impression.

Shame.

I'll tweet at them and see if they answer.

EDIT: Just remembered the guy I used to tweet at for answers doesn't work there anymore. Hm...

Here's a playlist from a pretty good youtuber who's "up there" as far as the 2k games and stuff like that goes. He actually went to the 2k studios and talked to them too. This has info in it as well and might help clear confusion too. He basically says what wighty posted but if you don't wanna read here ya go!

I just bought a ps3 for 100$ lol I think thats a good deal. Best friend sold it to me and we were to busy cutting hair to look up the price so we agreed on $100. But since money is so damn good right now I think I'll use it as a blue ray/dvd player and either buy a ps4 or xbox 1. I owned a Xbox 360 (broke it being clumsy) and a ps3 (Sold it while in school lol) I want WWE2k18 so I am willing to buy a new gaming system. What do you all suggest? Unless I can get WWE2k18 on ps3??? Sorry I have a cave man IQ when it comes to gaming systems and stuff. I just want to play the game with an easy controller and easy button combos. lol

Also want to get the GTA 4 and 5 Resident Evil and some other Zombie game my friend recommended.

Get what your friends have so you can play online. Otherwise they're comparable. I prefer Xbox, others prefer PS4.

2K18 is the first WWE game to ONLY be on Xbox One, PS4, and PC probably in 2018.

Go for a PS4, Jess. Then you can get Fire Pro World when it comes out. Much more fun. If 2K18 is anything like 2K17 it'll be a frustrating slug of a game. Since you have a PS3 though, you should pick up 2K14, it's dated, but it's the perfect WWE game for the most part.

PS4 and XBOXONE are both awesome consoles. I'd suggest getting what most of your friends have though. And you CAN'T get 2k18 on last gen consoles either. 100 bucks aint bad though and you can get a ps4 for 250 at gamestop/ebgames too.

But FirePro sounds like something I'll get. The hardcore stuff and being able to play tournaments on line is awesome. Thanks Kyler!

Thanks Wight and Otaku, now I just need to figure out who has what system. 250 is something I can do ttomorrow!

Y'know the funny thing? I'm not usually a graphics guy. Like, I want things to look GOOD, but I don't need the most high-def 3D models in my games. My Steam library is a testament to gorgeous pixel graphics and minimalist artwork. But when it comes to wrestling games... I have no real desire to go back to 2D sprites on a 2D playing field. I've always heard great stuff about Fire Pro and it looks like they have a lot of options, but it feels too much like a number of steps back to some kind of... best SNES wrestling game ever.

I'm glad y'all dig it, though. I'm just surprised the series never made the jump to 3D.

Fire Pro has what wrestlers in it? What I read sounds like 30 original wrestlers at launch and then all CAWs.

I'm of the same mind as Wight, though. I loved No Mercy on N64 but I have no desire to go back to that visual presentation.

Gotta try something before you can judge it.

What Fire Pro lacks in graphics, something most wrestling gamers care nothing about, it makes up for in all the simple things it does exceedingly well. The WWE games like to remove match types, Fire Pro adds to what they can already do. You can have a roster as big as your hard drive instead of being limited.

The timing required is easy to pick up and rewarding whereas the 2K games leave you feeling cheated with their mechanics they like to change yearly. There's a reason why people still play games like Fire Pro and No Mercy, they're fun. Modern games have forgot that in favor of reasonably good graphics with several awkward faces that don't match the wrestlers. 3D graphics aren't always a prerequisite despite what the times may tell you.

Sounds like you're going to have fun with it.

Unfortunately, I'm not most gamers and I do care about the graphics. Also, I like having my favorite wrestlers (Alexa Bliss!) already there waiting for me to play right out of the box rather than having to create her.

So yeah. I'm a WWE gamer through and through.

But I'm glad Fire Pro is offering an alternative to the gamers that don't want the mainstream offering.
