Okay, I been thinking on this since the morning. As most of you know, I am a WWE guy. been a fan since the late 80's when my brain started remembering things. a;; the way up until now. I was rooting for them during their worst days during the Monday Night War and continue to root for them. The thing is, they made the necessary changes back then to beat WCW into the ground. Now, they are lost. Its easy for people to say, I'd do this or I'd do that, when they have never lived the life of a booker, promoter or apart of talent. If you're not in the business please don't say you can book better... Efedding gm's count as some experience in my book though lol you're still booking, right? Some, experince. But not the type you may need to work for WWE.

However. I think this guy makes a great point and most of the time he does. WWE has their hardcore fans left. We are who they should cater to!!! Not the casual viewers. We are who they catered to back when WCW was making them their bitch! SO who did they take from, THE HARDCORE FANS PROMOTION!!! ECW!! Make us happy and the rest will follow, they will! I also have faith that WWE is getting to that Attitude era breaking point. I'll never forget the opening of th show when Vince said thinks wouldnt be so black and white. I beliee we will get one of those very soon.

Thats what I think, but I also always try to look for the positive in things.

So this is gonna be a bit difficult, given I've stopped watching wrestling well over a decade ago and have pretty much dropped the entire thing back in the winter. Including games, Youtube videos, and whatnot. But I did watch this one and I felt I could express my own thoughts of when Smackdown became a thing and how it ultimately led to my dislike in the wrestling brand.

When I first saw Smackdown, I was like “Hot dog! More wrestling!” I didn't swear then and I still really don't. No need to mention certain character names, I know they exist. But the thing was, back then I had time to watch it. I had people to discuss it with. So I was happy with 4+ hours of it each and every week. Then when I heard about the brand split I was quite against it putting on the assumption that there wasn't enough developed star power. But...that was the purpose of the split.

So I kept watching and as I kept watching I started to notice a trend that was a little more away from what was going on before. Simon was right in what he said, when you look back at the Attitude era it's easy to see that practically the entire roster was involved in something. At least those who frequented Raw and later Smackdown. They weren't just randomly pushed out there and told to entertain the crowd. Mind you, a lot of storylines never went anywhere and feuds are still hanging up in the air but it gave you something to invest into.

Again, I don't know today's product, I'm just going off from when I last watched it. So...midway toward the end of the first brand split.

During the split, there were a lot more random matches. More people thrown out on TV and it reminded me when WCW Nitro went on for three hours. It was wrestling, yes, there wasn't a lot of talking so that was good. But it was still like every match just blended into one another because you never got to know who the people were aside from their names. Maybe.

There weren't a lot of branching storylines either or any major event that involved a fair amount of the roster. One example was the Higher Power storyline. Yeah, it faltered and was a bit...crazy at times (crazy bad) but it brought to light so many faces you hardly ever saw before. Future stars were developed and you got a sense that it was the biggest deal. Then Vince revealed himself and the story made no sense at all. *cough*

Fast forward to the split era and you have champions running a single thread where each knot is just the next challenger and, eventually, a different lace will take over but it was still knot after knot with no change. Yeah, it's basically how wrestling has been for, well, ever. But during this timeframe it felt...more run of the mill than usual. Hard to explain, just the overall excitement was gone.

Stables felt like a bigger deal too in the Attitude era because there were branching scenarios. It wasn't often that they all just picked on one target. Evolution, while they had their own thing going at times, were mostly there to help fight Triple H's battles. The Cabinet...I honestly can't even recall them doing anything as individuals, did they? Did Orlando Jordan or the Bashams have a feud of their own during that time?

So it was stuff like that that stopped me from watching. Just basically seeing the same things over and over again play out how you expect them to. There wasn't anything compelling and when there was something big it was there for shock value and then was quickly derailed.

I don't know. I hope I contributed to the overall conversation, even though it has nothing to do with current day wrestling. :) If not...um, sorry.

I think people overlook how amazing the pro wrestling business is.
It is -
187 years old
it's been a work for 97 years
WWE has been around for 64 years.

There are 1992 promotions.

The thing with WWE is they now have the best roster but a main problem for fans is there is very little creative control and characters.
Raw should be amazing with it's roster: Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe
but all the multi man, tag stuff just makes fans take it for granted.
Look at Chad Gable vs AJ Styles, wrestling in ring wise is fantastic now and there is something for everyone. WWE is a television program masquerading as a wrestling promotion, it's very similar to Power Rangers and the Muppet show

Multi person matches are fine, I've been getting into NJPW lately and while the singles matches are the main attraction a decent chunk of the story seems the come from the tag matches. What makes them be taken for granted in WWE is the fact they are meaningless nonsense that get put out there like they are the main attraction a six man tag match shouldn't be the main event unless there's a trio belt involved. They also shouldn't feature all the main event talent because then you get two problems 1 you've weakened the rest of the show and made the ending more predictable some kind of screwy finish because who do you have take the fall?
