Opossum Queen of FIW

I have two points I wanna make here, and a lot of explaining I want to do. So strap in, folks; I'm about to get wordy. The first point is obviously that I'm stepping down as fedhead of FIW. I haven't felt right running the place since I earned the spot for a number of reasons, which have only been added to or exacerbated in the time since. At first I wanted to stick it out to Anarchy in B.C. because that's when I planned on being able to give Adam the opportunity to get Bloodbath his FIW Championship, but the cards dealt a different hand and he was given the opportunity to hold it much sooner. Beside all that, it makes a cleaner break for me to duck out at the conclusion of this stupid Havok storyline, much as Craig did following the much-better-booked and more-important Coulter Crew/Oldroid storyline last year. Clean slate. Whoever takes over can do whatever the hell they want with management, the staff, and so forth. And for those of you who are getting ready to post "oh, the Havok storyline is so good tho!" Thank you, but no it isn't. It's a pale echo of Craig and Lita's storyline that dominated all of last year. One I didn't mean to do that way but only sort of realized when it was too late. It's also strayed pretty far from my original vision for a number of reasons... some out of my hands and some down entirely to me, personally. See, I started this storyline as a means of trying to drum up interest in the fed. There's this... nasty air of stagnation that's crept in around us all and has been here long since before I took over. Long since before Craig took over. I'd say it probably started in full force when Marc was in charge and has only gotten worse over time. There's nothing new to do here. Sure, we get the occasional return, or shakeup, or new character... but it doesn't last. If they manage to stick around for more than three shows, once that character has made the rounds among people of their skill level... it's over. There are no new, fair stories to tell. While this might not be anything people consciously realize is going on, it's bled into everything that happens around here. - Party threads are shorter and less dynamic. Partially has to do with Twitter being a thing, but it's still true. - People crave accomplishments far more than they crave stories. Five years ago I'd get ideas about "I wanna work an angle with so and so" or "My friend and I came up with a great idea for a story" and now all I get is... well, nothing. People patiently waiting in line for their next turn at whatever title they're in place for. The biggest people putting in work like this have been Sticky, Nir, and Will, with a side order of Hayden, Adam, Otaku, and Dai. Even then folks talk more about "I want to go for this title" or "I want to hold all these titles at the same time" instead of "I want to run a cool stable" or "I want a great singles feud to put my character over". - New talent influx is at an all-time low. Part of this is because I've had to turn on admin approval because of Certain Trolls ( - New talent that DOES stick around is rare. We've lost more old handlers, old characters, and new handlers/characters than almost TWICE our current roster. - Talent that IS here... doesn't care. More often than not, all the RPs happen in the last three or four days leading up to the deadline, including from champions. People obviously have other shit they'd rather be doing and that's fine. I'm done blaming myself for it, but it's still an obvious problem preventing the kind of fun around here we used to have. Which leads me to my next point, and it's kind of a sensitive one, it kind of punches right in the sentimental breadbasket... but here goes. We need to let FIW die. I should not have taken over. Nobody should've. FIW should've just ended with the beautiful button Craig and Lita put on everything instead of me carrying on with this Scrubs Season 9 bullshit. I kind of felt that way at the time, some of you may even remember me talking about it. I'm sure Lita and Nir do. And I might've just turned the opportunity down if I had been more aware of certain facts. See, FIW represents a lot of what we love, but it also represents a lot of what is considered archaic in the greater e-fedding world. A generalized, WWE-style RP fed with no length/RP limits is just not what people want to participate in anymore. Even many of you have found a greater rush in other places. And while I may not personally understand it, I can see it working right in front of me for what it is. Angled feds are incredibly more popular. Niche feds are incredibly more popular. Imposed limits help RP feds stay alive, but they're still a dying breed. People would rather be in ten low-effort, low-stress feds than one high-effort fed, plain and simple. In-character we talk about FIW as a huge globally-recognized main-event brand. Out of character, we're barely fit to lace up the boots of most microfeds in terms of user base and actual scope. Now you might see all this and say "Well, just make FIW a niche fed! Impose limits so people feel comfortable! Make it an angled fed!" as many others have to me before... it's not that simple. There is a spirit to FIW, an ouvre of style that while all of us who have taken the reigns have tweaked to suit our tastes has never fully been diluted. Through all the Mansons, shady corporate entities, egotistical self-proclamed deities, and wrestlers-turned-show runners... there has always been a Hitchen and a Martin. There has always been a global brand with a flavor that reads Full. Intensity. Wrestling. I can't just slap a sombrero on that legacy and say "We're a lucha fed now, Susan!" You can't take FIW and fully transmute it into something else like so much lead into gold. Because it ceases to be FIW. My original plan was to open a new fed where I felt I could be more creatively flexible, but that's just not something I want to pursue right now. Opening us up to the greater e-fed world has just reminded me how toxic and overdramatic the player base can be, so much to the point that I feel like I'm running through BS scenarios from ten years ago all over again, and I don't have the patience for that. I'll still be in the FIW chat because I like y'all and have loved talking with you about life and wrestling over the last six months. Otherwise, you know where to find me. I'm willing to leave the floor open for people to offer to take over and will oversee an election thread as has been done in the past, but I implore you all not to. Sometimes, the only way to move forward is to let the past die. |

I want to begin this by saying that I agree with Wight, his wording is different from mine, I'd have said 'close' instead of 'die', but the sentiment behind it is the same. FIW as an entity should be allowed to close and stand for all of time as a monument to some fucking good times, not limp on as something it never was. Maybe it should have happened when I stepped down, but to leave storylines, characters and optimism on the table would have been a waste. I feel like FIW had to have a baron period to confirm that the bubble had burst. That has been Wight, Nir, Hayden, Will and everybody here's burden and for that I'm sorry, but it had to happen. It's like a relationship, if there's hope that everything would be okay, you can't walk away. You have to find out. You have to know it's over. The e-fed world has changed. If I've learned anything in dabbling in other feds, it's that. I wanted Scope to be a success here, I really did, but it was painful writing his roleplays. I've changed, slowly, but albeit changed nonetheless. His words did not flow. I'm sadly one of those long time handlers who departed, recently, but I did. I didn't come forward with storylines and angles as much as I should have. That's my regret and I let down Wight there. I said something a few weeks ago on twitter about Clay's career and in many ways it mirrors FIW's, it's like a great tragedy in that the hero dies but the story lives on forever. I hope nobody does come forward. I hope FIW is allowed a respectful end, not shunted as an angle fed or rekindled under a brief light that fades all too quickly when the enthusiasm wanes. I think it's the right thing to do. |

I'm not going to lie. I left this fed a little angry, a little bitter. Not all of that was especially warranted, but just going to be perfectly honest. I've even said a thing or two about the place since I left that wasn't the nicest. Yet, I don't hate this place. I don't hate all the memories that happened here. I certainly don't hate any of the people here. That said. I'm in full agreement with Wight. I think it's time that FIW finally rests in peace. It has been dragged and dragged and dragged much further than an e-fed should ever be allowed to be dragged. It's had it's peaks. Oh man, did it have some amazing peaks. But it's had it's fair share of lows that honestly left me surprised that it was still standing. At the end of the day, I feel like a lot of people love this place and those people can sustain it for another stretch through that love and hard work, but guys! That hard work isn't worth it in the end. Don't do that to yourselves. You could accomplish so much more elsewhere without killing yourself for a memory of what once was. Anyway. I just wanted to weigh in with my thoughts on this. Obviously, I have no stake in this anymore. I wish all of you good luck in whatever you chose to do from here. I have a number of good angle feds that I'd be happy to recommend anyone looking for a place to try that out. I also know a couple RP feds that still don't impose limits on its handlers that I'd also be happy to share with anyone who needs it. |

Much the opposite I'd say. FIW has been open so long because of your efforts, not in spite of them. It is testament to yourself and others like you who have put hard work in that there is a decision to be made, not a fate forced upon it. |

It's nobody's fault, and no one should feel bad. In effect I think we all knew its time but like Craig said, it's a testament to all of us who have worked as hard as we have to be able to have the choice to close it. Speaking as a guy who's been around since FIW started, I am really 100% okay with it ending after ReVolution. We've put so many years of great memories and great writing into this place that it feels good to walk away from it here and have some fun in other feds. I'm at peace with it, I'll cherish the memories forever and I'm going to give the same effort through the last few dates and through ReVolution but I won't be sad after it ends. I think I'll feel more...accomplished, is the right word, that I did everything here that I wanted to do with everybody that I wanted to do it with. I feel like we should all go out for cigars or something after Revolution posts. |

If this place is ending, if it really is... then i'd like to say thank you to everyone here for being my second efed home for this past year or so. I enjoyed this place very much after my first efed had closed for... well pretty much the same reasons only they had like 6-10 people and allot more drama and bad blood with a few towards the end. If this place is going... at the very least can we do some sort of IC/kayfabe good bye? can we have one last swan song and one last good bye show? Kinda like how ECW knew their last show, how WCW knew their last show... i know i haven't been here too long, but i think that it would be nice to have one final huge super awesome show and we go out with a bang. If these last few shows are our last, then thank you all for taking me in and letting me join this small little part of the world, but then again this isn't really a good bye to allot of you guys. I've seen many of you in other efeds i'm in and in other places as well, so that's not too bad i guess. Unlike my last place everyone kinda just went away... Thanks guys for being awesome for the most part throughout what i've seen and been through. Let's go kick some ass together one last time at least... |

I'm not looking for something overly tearful or dedicated, but it has already influenced some plans for the card and I'm sure will influence even more. So, feel free to talk about it, I guess, but it's not supposed to be a big, sentimental affair. I'm more interested in wrapping up as many storylines as possible. |

I mean, logically? I guess? But this isn't supposed to be a big weepy show. I just don't think the mood of that experience would fit right with what we're trying to accomplish. I don't want the next few show's RPs to be all "oh gosh, this place has so many memories, I'm gonna miss it". That's really... like, that's not the point. |

That's a super fair point. I've had a hard time getting my point across here, both on my end finding the words and on the receiving end, for whatever reason. Lemme try again. What I'm trying to avoid is tonal/emotional dissonance. Sentimentality and kayfabe-bending/breaking for the sake of being sad about the fed closing ECW-style just doesn't ring right with everything else we've built up this month and we don't really have time to build to a going away party/funeral dirge. Like, the Havok/Holland match for example. It doesn't matter who wins control of FIW because it's closing, so if we focus on that this entire build is pointless. So, like, close off your stories if you want. Add a note of finality, but please don't create more narrative disassociation than is necessary. There will be plenty of time for that after, either on Twitter or if you just wanna post something commemorative in the RP forum. |

Right. Over the next month before Revolution I would like to try to add some more layers to Havok/Holland if we can, just for that reason. |

I'm going to hate seeing this place go. Although I have faded in and out over the years, I have always felt welcome here, regardless of whether I was active or not. And I have always had fun when I was active. Not sure what else to say here. Anybody who is in other feds, shoot me a PM. I like to at least look around other places. |

Hmm... well, I guess I'll throw in my two cents. While the idea of FIW closing down hurts inside I can see where everyone else is coming from. I have no grandiose ideas about how to keep something like this running so I won't offer resistance. The one thing I DO want is to not throw dirt on FIW but to praise it. I have met some wonderful people and had some terrific times. Lots of amazing conversations and a forum, no pun intended, to allow me to be creative in some way. Some of you are going to be a part of me for the rest of my life. Each time I have come back has been a joy and has been an escape for the troubles in my "real life". Has everything here always been puppies, rainbows and unicorns? No, and I realize there's been times when I have hurt someones feelings or been a jerk. I find it amazing that this fed' has been like an anchor for the last 17 years or so. It has always been, existed and drawn people to it. Folks that never left, newer members, people that have come and gone... and come back again etc. No matter what has gone on, there has been an energy here joining us from around the world. Sometimes chaotic and sometimes creative... but it was here. It IS here. That's pretty damn awesome! So that's my little homage to FIW, I guess. I love it just as much at this moment as I did the first time I got an MSN message from Steve and Sam welcoming me aboard. I love you all as well and whatever happens here then I feel at peace with it. |
