The camera focuses on the profile of Kennedy as she moves down the seemingly never-ending corridors of this week's arena. Of course, the corridors end somewhere. It's not entirely possible for them to be never-ending. Or is it? Maybe Vinj'll figure out the answer to that question some day. However, never-ending or not Kennedy has reached the end of her journey. She stops at a door reading CHRIS MACLAY. Hey! Didn't she just tell him to stay away from her? That doesn't seem entirely fair. Oh well. She reaches her hand up, knocking firmly on the wooden door. Patiently waiting, she gets no reply. She knocks again to another response of nothing. She picks up a faint sound, prompting her to move her ear to the door, where her ears bear witness to the corniest music in creation. She takes a step back, trying to piece together what could be going on inside. She gives up, turning the knob and walking inside. Inside she spots Jayne and Maclay on opposite ends of the couch. Jayne is intently watching whatever is on the television, while Maclay is cringing at what is likely God-awful acting. If you can even call it acting. Maclay jolts at the abrupt entrance. Jayne simply looks up, annoyed. Jayne: Argh! Be gone, wench! We be busy! Kennedy, hands on hips, looks from Jayne to Maclay to the television back to Jayne. Kennedy: What… Nevermind. I don't think I want to know. Kennedy's eyes move from Jayne, onto Maclay. Kennedy: Um, nevermind. I can see you're… ugh… busy. Kennedy spins and walks out of the room. Maclay hesitates a moment before jumping up and hustling after his ex-fiancé. In the halls, Maclay rushes out the door and after Kennedy, catching her hand. Maclay: Hey, wait up. Kennedy spins around, pulling her hand free from Maclay's grasp. Used to her pulling away, Maclay takes it in stride. Maclay: What are you doing here? I thought you told me to stay away from you. Kennedy: Yeah, I did. Maclay: So that only applies to me? You can do whatever you want? Kennedy: I wasn't the one who lied. Maclay nods, taking the shot in stride as well. Kennedy sighs, mentally kicking herself. Kennedy: No, wait. That isn't why I came to see you. I'm sorry. I actually… I needed to talk to you about last week. I came down on you too hard. I'm sorry. Maclay takes a step back, raising his eyebrow as he probably questions whether or not this is the real Kennedy talking to him. Kennedy: You were right, somewhat. There's no reason we can't put that a little bit behind us and at least be friends again. I mean, I can't honestly expect you to prove to me you've changed if I refuse to even talk to you. Maclay comes to realization that it is the real Kennedy but there's still something that's puzzling to him. At least that's what we can gather from the expression on his face. Kennedy: So, I was thinking that maybe-- Maclay: Whoa, whoa. Wait. Just hold up a second. Last week, when I come to you, you bitch me out. But now this week is different? Why? Because we're suddenly in a match together? Kennedy: What? No. This has nothing to do with our match. Maclay: No, no. I think it has everything to do with our match. You don't want anything to do with me unless it helps you further your career, is that it? It's a crime when I want that, but it's all fine and dandy for you to use me. Kennedy: Chris, that's not what I'm saying. Maclay: I think that's EXACTLY what you're saying. So my reply to that is-- Tough. Luck. I'm not holding back out there just because you decide you want to be my friend this week! Excuse me, I have my REAL friend waiting for me. Maclay walks off, opening the door to his locker room. He hesitates, shaking his head as the sound of "erotic drama" echoes out into the hall, but he presses on nonetheless. Kennedy is left just standing in the hallway, likely feeling how Maclay's been feeling these past couple of weeks. Karma, people. It's real. Believe it. Fade out. |
