As the scene opens and the darkness is replaced with colour and light we find ourselves in the main arena of the Palace of Auburn Hills. The auditorium is empty and silent, in stark contrast of how it will appear on Tuesday night as thousands of screaming fans cheer and jeer the stars of TNT. The ring is set up, as too are the barriers and the mats, the walkway and stage, the TNTron and the announce tables. All is ready. One single speck of life exists in this seemingly lifeless arena, and it has chosen to take up a seat at the main announce table. Chris Maclay sits back in his chair, feet on the desk as he looks into the ring where he will do battle in a few short days. The camera focuses on the number one contender as he addresses the millions of people watching at home.

Maclay: So according to the powers that be, I need a warm up match. Me. A seasoned veteran of this industry, a multiple champion, one of the cornerstones of this federation needs a warm up match. Gotta tell ya, feeling pretty warm here. But if our esteemed general manageress decrees that I need to warm up before taking on old Jimmy boy, then who am I to argue?

He shrugs, moving his arms up and placing his hands behind his head as he leans back in his chair, making himself nice and comfy.

Maclay: So I gots me a match with the last number one contender, old Bradley Johnson. I remember when me and Brad used to run this place, while Fearod was out with a crater in his cranium, heh, those were fun times. But then we went our separate ways. I moved up the ladder to the top echelons of the company and Brad, well, Brad kinda lingered about in the middle somewhere. Finally caught up with me, huh Brad?

Maclay chuckles as he brings his arms back down and drops his feet off the desk, pulling himself forward and leaning on the table as he continues to talk into the camera.

Maclay: Well it certainly took ya long enough. You got your chance at Jimbo, at the Dual Crown Championship, and you failed. Sucks to be you. So now, what? You think you’re main event material, ‘cos you managed to claw your way up to a DC title shot while I was busy with my ex and her poncy little friend? I must admit, I got a little sidetracked there, dealing with the missus and that Corona feller, but it was nice of you to fill in for me while I was otherwise occupied, you did a good job of imitating a main eventer. Kudos.

He claps his hands together, applauding Bradley on his efforts, but his face returns to a serious expression as he carries on with his little monologue.

Maclay: But now I’ve dealt with those distractions, I’ve moved on and I’m ready to get back to what’s important. For some reason, Maddy wants to drag this thing out, make me wait for my title shot. I dunno why, probably to build tension or something, I dunno, but whatever the reason is I guess I’ll play along. So now I have to get through you first before I get my shot, ’cos, why? Do I really need to prove myself against someone who already tried and failed to claim the title? Against someone who had no place challenging for it in the first place? Pfft, whatever. I guess I’ll fight you, and beat you, and then move on to the big man himself, and retake my rightful place at the top of this company.

A smile spreads across his face as leans back in his chair once more, his arms splayed out as he hangs them on the chairs either side of him.

Maclay: Looks like you’ve been demoted to warm up act, Brad. Just some jobber for me to work my way through before I get to the end of level boss. Oh and Jim, you might wanna watch this one, ‘cos once I’m through with Jobbey McWarmup, I’ll be poking my head back into Maddy’s office and asking her for a certain title match. Shine ‘em up for me, Jim, I wanna be able to see my face in those babies when I get them back.

And with a smile and a wink, Maclay rises out of his seat and heads off screen as the camera stays focused on his now empty chair. Until of course, the scene fades to black.
