We fade in to a corridor backstage, where Mark Deveraux is standing, mic in hand, waiting for the signal that he’s on air. When he gets the signal, he nods, and smiles as to greet the audience Mark: Hello, TNT fans. This week sees yet another return from long-time FIW superstar Dez. Surely this is becoming a bit tiresome and repetitive? Well, maybe not so. Over the coming few weeks, Dez has agreed to be interviewed by yours truly, to talk about the ups and downs of his wrestling career, his motives for coming back again and again, and of course his views on his match for the week. The first in this series of interviews was conducted yesterday, shortly after lunchtime, in which Dez explains his long periods of absence and his relationship with his stepsister Alicia. So without further ado, let’s roll the footage… The camera fades to black, before fading in again, this time on a room with two chairs. The room is quite dark, but you can definitely make out a sultry blue backdrop. On one chair, sits Mark Deveraux with his clipboard of questions in hand. Opposite him, sits Dez. He is donning a black visor beanie over his flattened black hair, an Alexisonfire heart skull hoodie, and baggy blue jeans that cover the top of his DC skate shoes. He is sitting comfortably, waiting for the interview to begin Mark: Dez, first of all I’d like to welcome you back to TNT Dez: Cheers Mark, much appreciated Dez reaches over to the table in front of him to get his glass of water, as Mark prepares his questions Mark: So first off, I’ll ask you what the fans are begging to know, as you’ve never explained. Why have you taken long periods of absence from FIW? Dez grimaces slightly, before forcing his face into a smile Dez: Well, this is kinda hard for me to explain it all again, cause I did cut a promo for Rising when Alicia first came, but it never got aired. Well, the first time, when I left Slam!, I was angry at the management team. They never told me I was going to have my championship taken away from me. So I resigned in protest. I then toured the indy feds constantly for the ten months after that. I was actually in Japan when I met Ms. Lee, and she offered me a job back on TNT. I was struggling, and the offer was too good to refuse. So I accepted, we came back over to the States the next day, and everything seemed fine and dandy. But I didn’t think… He pauses for a second to take a sip of water, and Mark patiently waits for Dez to continue Dez: I didn’t think that my mental problems would come back again. See, when I was a kid, my dad never liked my brother and sister, my mother or I. He abused us like he owned us. Well one day, when he found out my mother was leaving him to go over to Canada, he went fucking crazy. He would have killed her, if…well I didn’t actually realise at the time, I found out afterwards. I was standing watching it, and I felt too weak to do anything, and that was the last thing I could remember. The next thing I realised, I was in Canada, with Alicia’s family. My mother told me everything, how I had picked up my dad’s whisky bottle and absolutely mauled him with it. I didn’t kill him, obviously, there wasn’t enough strength in a ten-year old kid, but we had to run then, or else he would have killed us He takes another sip of water, and Mark takes the opportunity to ask another question Mark: So how have the mental problems developed since then? Dez: Well the day after we arrived in Canada, I went to see the doctor. He referred me to a psychiatrist, a therapist, the whole works. I was diagnosed with a mental condition that only comes over me when I’m absolutely filled with rage. They gave me tablets, they didn’t help much, but the problems never really occurred after that. That is, until the day on TNT when I lost my Openweight Championship to Barry Shaw. When I realised that his no-good runt of a manager Jimmy had cheated me out of losing my title, I went to see Ms. Lee. At this point I was getting really angry, and she told there was nothing she could do about it. I left her office in a rage, and bumped into a stagehand on the way back to my own locker room. That was the last thing I could remember, until I was back in Ms. Lee’s office, and she was furious with me. She ripped my contract up on the spot. Then after I got home, the police came and charged me with ABH, no doubt on Ms. Lee’s orders. I put the pieces together myself; I didn’t need any help from the police officers and their evidence Mark: So did you get a jail sentence? Dez: Luckily, I managed to escape prison, on account of my medical record. I was, however, ordered to go and see the therapists again, in fact I’m still in therapy. One day when I was at therapy, however, something strange happened. Ms. Lee came to see me. She said that the FIW hadn’t been informed of my medical condition, or she wouldn’t have fired me. She offered me a job back, but this time on Rising, just to prove to her that I could keep sane. She even contacted Alicia to make sure that I couldn’t get out of hand again Mark: Wow, that’s quite a story Dez: That it is Mark nods and looks down at his clipboard again Mark: So how is your relationship with Alicia? You seem really tight Dez: We are. She’s been my best friend since I was ten, I wouldn’t have been able to get through school if it wasn’t for her. We were both ten when we moved over to Canada. My brother was five, my sister was two, and Alicia’s brother was at college, so we had no one else to talk to besides each other. I guess it’s lucky that we didn’t, she really is the most amazing person I’ve ever met He takes another sip of water and checks his watch. Mark fires in another question Mark: So your opponent for this week is another Rising product, in the form of Torrence Coleman. Recently she has formed a bond with Torrie…does this in any way worry you? Dez: Well I’d like to sound over-confident and say that I’m not worried about it. But I’ll just be honest and say…I’m not really worried about it. If she interferes, I can take care of her myself, I’ve beaten her before Mark: But she did attack you after that match, if I’m not mistaken? Dez: Point. But still, I was off my guard then. The girl can hold her own, no doubt, and she probably has no ring rust, while I certainly do, but I’ve been training non-stop to make sure I’m ready for the two girls, and I will be Mark: So what about Torrence? What did you make of her when you were down on Rising? Dez: Yeah, she’s well good. I faced off with her on the first Rising show; it wasn’t a walk in the park, let me assure you. We’ve both matured now as wrestlers, but I honestly believe that with my experience, I will beat her. It’ll be a close match, no doubt about it, especially if that bitch Torrie decides to stick her nose in. But in all honesty I hope she doesn’t, and I hope Torrence and I have a good, clean fight Mark: I’m sure the fans will too. Well, that pretty much wraps the interview up for this week. Thank you Dez for your time Dez: Pleasure Mark: Join both Dez and I next week when I’ll have another exclusive interview from the man himself. Until the next time I’m in a wrestler’s promo, goodbye!
