Match of the year, if you ask me. Lita also screwed up the 41st World Tag Team Champions entry. I didn't realize the post would just cut things off at the end after a while rather than tell me I went over the character limit so... kind of lost that entire entry. It appears it was Mutant Enemy (Jenny Chennault and Havok) so if anyone knows what show it happened at and any defenses, that'd be great. Sorries. EDIT: Nevermind! Found the info. Fixed it. Like it never happened. -_- |

Hey sorry I'm a little late to the party, it's been a very rough week for me. My grandfather passed on Monday and we buried him yesterday so my apologies if I've been spotty the past few weeks. I enjoyed the match though, I'm honestly surprised to pick up the victory. I think Neo did really well and I wasn't sure if I could match up with what I had (especially given as I felt my last one wasn't very good since I ran out of time and had to wrap it up where I was). Mungrel and Lucas was definitely an interesting affair as well but yeah I am with the rest of the consensus, Lucas would be a very cool champion sometime in the future. |

I have to get ready for work, so I just wanted to address a couple more things: - Thank you very much for Jim's induction, everyone. It means a lot, I'm very grateful for it, and congratulations to everyone else who was voted in. I'll try to do a little something for the ppv, but it's been a bit of a hectic time in my home as of late. So, I can't promise anything (but my gut feeling is that while people like Jim O'Brien, they're not exactly clamoring to hear from him).- Why would I want Lucas to lose? A. From a narrative standpoint... To touch on a point Wight brought up a little while ago, if Lucas wins the DC, the story's over. I view Lucas as, essentially, Tommy Dreamer. Mankind in the Attitude era. He's the Chicago Cubs. Ideally, he's the guy who gets sooooo close to winning the big one, but for one reason or another just doesn't. But the fans (and this is where the 'ideally' part comes in) rally behind him even more with every loss because they want him to win the proverbial big one so badly. I don't really know if it's something that can work in e-fedding, especially since everyone knows I'm belt-aphobic and people are just going to think "Oh, Lucas is in a title match? Jim's just going to ask him to lose anyway, I'm not going to get invested with this." B. I just don't need the headache of being World Champion. Pretty much every time I've had the Dual Crown, I've hated it. I was talking with somebody a little bit ago via PM and they said to me "I can't imagine people not liking you." And I'm like "That's because you weren't on TNT in 2005." Yeah, it's been ten years since then, but... I just don't want to risk going all Champzilla on management again. I'm happier just sitting in the corner telling my silly stories while everyone else goes crazy for belts.C. As mentioned earlier, my schedule can be pretty hectic at times. And I never really know when my next sabbatical is. It's not fair to management and to everyone else for me to have a belt, only then to have to drop it a week or so long later because I have to leave the fed for a time. I still have nightmares about Jim's Dual Crown reign in 2012, which was just a bungled mess that I mostly hold myself responsible for. And, while you might not know it, Silas was Fighting Spirit Champion for... like a week or two until I had to leave the fed again. I don't bring it up because... ehhh... I just don't want to get into that again. |

I still don't have words for Tier being inducted. I mean, me personally. We're all in a decent place right now, but I've made muddy waters in the past and I'm just so shocked and honored that you guys would consider me, let alone vote me in. As for Jim, I understand. I also get why people are stunned you don't want the strap because so many people still see it as The Point to this game... and its not. Sid and I have both said it before; its a tool. Less flatteringly, its a crutch. Its something prestigious to keep your character relevant when they don't have more interesting storylines to be involved it. Yes, its a reward. But its not THE reward. Furthermore, what happens when Lucas has challenged for the belt and lost? Lucas looks good because he held STRONG against the champ. Mungrel looks good because Lucas put up one hell of a fight, but Mun still won. The belt itself looks good because of the match put on for it. Jim has put over three things instead of just one with a smart, if not terribly self-serving decision. So while I want to see Lucas dripping with gold, I get why he can't and I respect it. It only makes me want it more. |

It will always be seen as "The Point" of the game so long as FIW remains a "competitive writing" environment. If the point was to tell great stories, then results would be a lot easier to determine as you'd just go with the best story. But when you win by being the "better writer" any given week, having a title as a reward is only logical. We've created that dilemma ourselves and it's being perpetuated. I don't mean this in a negative manner. Just trying to shine some light on why people still see (and will continue to see) titles as the end goal. |

Despite also wanting the DC one day, Catherine's content on having Kim be her "end goal" if need be. Of course we can make it work to standard. Just paint Kim gold and cover her up in jewels. Sure she'll suffocate to death, but not so long as there's that patch of open skin. That's what the tag match for Nensai Senjou will be for! Sorry, had a near death experience last night so still a little shook up and delusional. Maybe that car did hit me and I'm just imagining all of this. If so, my mind's a real laugh riot putting everything in the status quo. Party on, Joe. ~eat snacky smores~ |

I would be inclined to believe that the better writer tells the better story. Unless you mean "so and so winning would tell a better story regardless of who roleplayed better", then, yes. That's a different kind of fed. EDIT: I have more thoughts on this but id have a hard time expressing them on my phone on my break. |

OK! So I'm home now and can type stuff without it being almost entirely in lowercase and lacking punctuation. One of the biggest problems still present in the FIW scene is that holding (and keeping) a title are, like, the ultimate reward in the 'fed. And while earning the title is a great reward and keeping the title for a long time is (under ideal circumstances) an AWESOME reward, they're hardly the only rewards. Like, for example, my consistently favorite RPers right now are Jim, Lita, aaaand probably Marc and Seph. Jim; currently has no title. Lita; very active in lower-card title scenes, despite being skilled enough for higher titles. Marc; currently has no title, though he is active near the DC. Seph; currently has half of the tag championships on one character, and the rest are... man all over the place not doing anything too specific. So, despite those things you could call accolades, none of those guys are the Dual Crown champ. Does this mean they aren't being properly rewarded? Hell no! Each of them has set their own parameters for a good reward; an enticing and interesting character/story, bringing prestige to a title that deserves it, building great stories with other talented people and being recognized for it. A feedback thread doesn't go by where these handlers aren't being praised for their skills in some form or another, be that through a victory or just the support of the rest of the board. Think about it like this; when Hallowe'evolt rolled around I was PSYCHED to see Zombie Black (or TIER as he was then) as the face of the show's banner. Not everyone gets that privilege. You have to be a dedicated RPer with a character who represents what FIW is all about, a name big enough that it's conceivable in-universe that the company would be advertising their product with your character's mug. HOW COOL IS THAT!? I mean, theoretically, ANYBODY could be on that banner. But not just anybody is. If somebody no-shows constantly or is combative with their fellow roleplayers, they're not gonna be chosen to represent the company. Just the same as nobody is going to want to work a long angle with you if you're unreliable or difficult to work with. YES, non-pre-arranged matches are decided by who did the better RPs in the week. It's what keeps things dynamic and unpredictable. It's what stops things from getting stale, and what makes sure the people getting the most wins are the ones putting in the best effort. Winning a match isn't as much a reward in and of itself, but more a measureable way to show you deserve the OTHER rewards you're getting; card placement, prestigious matches, the approval of your peers, cool graphics, and so forth. Like I said above; titles are a reward; they're a REALLY GOOD crutch. A built-in storyline for every match you have until you lose the title. What a reward! You're being given a baseline idea for all of your roleplays and feuds! But they're not the ONLY reward. Even setting/breaking records only means so much, y'know? Like... Richard Rose was the NGIW Champion because he beat the GM character and a new/untested character after the previous champion bailed on the fed. He held it for about a month. At one point Mr. Intensity beat Joe Stanton for the NGIW title after a loooong feud and didn't hold onto it until the end of the event. The second, shorter reign is still more impressive than the first. Just... you kids, I love you, but don't get so tunnel-vision about what constitutes a 'reward' and 'recognition' in an e-fed. That scope is broader than you think, and it HAS to be because we have so many talented people here. |

The rewards I value most are when people hit the like button or take the time to write some positive feedback and praise either in threads like this or through the personal messenger. Every once in a while, Lita will drop me a "love what you're doing with blah-blah" message and I have to admit that I get a warm fuzzy feeling. I've always felt like I've been hovering just below the top tier role players in this fed and the numerous other feds our little gypsy caravan community has traveled to, and when those top tier writers look my way it's a tremendous honor. I'm not going to say that earning a fictitious title isn't a swell way to tell someone they're doing an awesome ob, because it is. They have, by way of hard work and community acknowledgement, earned the right to be called champion. I think the stigma of titles being "the prize" also comes from the real world (you know what I mean) of pro wrestling. When the boss puts the title on you it's because he has faith in you as a champion. When I say the title I mean the world belt, because let's be honest... at least in the WWE, if it ain't the world belt it don't seem to matter! But that's a rant for another time! I will admit that when I earned the NGIW title is was a big validating moment for me. I felt like I had finally done enough to impress the people I've been working and straining to impress for so long. That being said, earning the title isn't always the goal. I love telling great stories, and like I said above love getting positive feedback and praise. But it does feel good to be the champ. Just saying. Long story short, I think what most people are climbing up the ladder for is to stand on that pedestal with the likes of the Lita's and the Wight's and the Jimbo's to name a few. I know I am! |
