Oh, I'm in a good mood during a feedback where a bunch of people no-showed! Rare!

Honestly, most of the ones who did I fully expected to. Jason Fenix, Ryleigh and Rixton Ruin have been removed from the roster. Seth Gile and El Santo Guerrero as well, with Nightmare's approval, because while they've been tweeting, it sure as hell isn't about FIW. No harm no foul, they're all welcome to come back if they have time to commit, as usual.

Nir was a bit more of a surprise, I'll let him explain his situation if he wants, but it's understandable and he let me know what was going on before the deadline. Then did some GREAT promos to help fill out the show! How awesome! We were OVERLOADED with promos this week! I love to see it!

Speaking of things I love to see, we had a GREAT turnout from everyone! Matches were really hard to decide because most of you turned out SUCH an amazing effort! I LOVE that! If I have to make a hard decision, that's the kind I want to make because everyone is putting forth their best. The main event in particular was difficult, but I feel comfortable with my decision. If Dai had been earlier, if Sticky had been a bit punchier, and if Crystal's storyline was a bit less out there I think I would've had to roll a fucking d4, because that's how good everyone's effort was! THANK you!

Just a heads-up for next week; not THIS card (which is already up, btw) but the FOLLOWING week; it's the Grand Prix, an annual FIW tradition where we give someone who has put in a titanic amount of effort over the last year a Money in the Bank-style shot at the FIW Championship following a tournament. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ROLEPLAY FOR THE TOURNAMENT. You can, if you want, but it won't affect your standing as much of the show is likely to be written well in advance, if not all of it. To keep things rolling since we have such a wide schedule, this is probably going to be the week I throw up the FIW Holiday Party thread, so we can just relax and be friendly for a week and a half while various seasonal holidays and vacations go down. Business will pick up as usual following that.

So once again...

SLAM!: NORMAL.
Next TNT: Grand Prix - YOU DON'T HAVE TO RP! But there will be a Holiday Party for fun.
Next SLAM!: NORMAL

Got it? Good.

Please leave feedback for the writers and roleplayers; they worked hard to bring you this show and they want to know what you liked and what they can do better in the future. If you have an issue with the result of your match, specifically please PM me personally and we'll discuss it. Remember; if you and the management are doing their jobs, you should win about 50% of the time. However 50/50 booking is one way to book a wrestling show, but it's not very good when it's the only way. We're all doing our best to tell stories, here. Putting over your opponent and telling a good story are more important than arbitrary points in a win/loss column.

Matches: Wighty.
Promos: Will, Hayden, Nir, Wight, and David.

I think I may have goofed with the Syndi storyline going on right now in that I took it a step further than I initially intended this week. Also kinda why I stepped away from it and went business per usual with my second RP. So apologies for any bits of confusion there.

Did enjoy the match. Lots of good parts for everyone and yay! The Jackhammer returns! If memory serves, I think it was first used on Sakura too. Start calling it the Sakura Hunter or something else. Maybe something else. :P

I'm cool with that. Once upon a time, Jenny's finisher was renamed the Briannakiller in honour of a particular rival and match.

The devastating Sak-Hammer!

I'll try to get back with feedback soon. Just had to throw that joke out before I had time to regret it and change my mind.

I'm going to do something quite uncharacteristic. I'm going to gripe. I've been sitting on these thoughts for a while now, and will readily admit that my weekly dose of, "all the role plays were awesome, everyone" has been doing nothing more than enabling these things I'm about to speak to. Now for those of you who are thinking, "well who the hell does this guy think he is?!" I'll answer by saying that I'm a 35 year old man who's spent a little less than half his life here and there in this e-fed and that e-fed honing his literary skills to have finally been dubbed good enough to be the champion character in a fed that I have a pile of respect for. I've been more in and than out of FIW for a lot of years. I feel like my opinion matters now. I feel like I've earned the right to say as much too. That being said...

I get that everyone wants their guy to be the guy. It certainly comes out in the writing. Everyone wants to be a badass, and if I were a casual reader I'd be thinking, "wow, sure are a lot of badasses in FIW". But the badass gimmick isn't so much being over-played as it is under-developing characters. Here's the gist of like 80% of the role plays that I've read over the last few months...

"You said some harsh tings about me... but I don't care, because I'm a killer! Blood-blood-blood! I'm the most violent! Sadistic is a word I know! Ain't no party like an [instert your name]-Club party! So much disrespect for YOOOOOUUUUU~!!!!!!!!!!"

And then I'm like BO-RING!, because it is boring. It's boring when people don't act like people, because watching people be people is entertaining. That's why people will sit and watch reality TV. Mostly because of absurdity, but also because it's people being people. Wrestling is people being people who also beat each other up. And yeah, there are supposed to be badasses. Badasses who stick it to the man, badasses who take their lumps, badasses who ride off into the sunset. But a badass who tells me every week that his shit is more important than everyone else's shit because he/she's CA-RAY-ZEE~! is getting pretty dry. How about role plays where people have actual human reactions to what's going on around them? How about role plays that get my attention because they tell more than a douche bag's story. Like someone going through some real shit.

For example: Sticky has my attention. Why? Because I personally went through a miscarriage this summer. It sucked. Really sucked. And seeing this on screen, watching Gus go through pretty much the run of emotions that I went through grabbed my attention. I can relate to that guy. I empathize for him. You know who I don't empathize for? You know who I don't care about? The invincible badass who feels nothing. In his role play, Sticky used a very powerful word. Fear. He said Gus was afraid, and I was like, "Fuck yeah, he should be! Dude's talking smack about your super-vulnerable and mentally fragile baby-momma!", because that made sense to me.

I don't know... take risks, people. Let your character feel things. Bloodbath has a legacy built on being probably the most human character I've ever written for. He's a product of his environment. Watched his dad die. Never knew his mom, who his father and grandfather called a whore. Did I mention that his grandfather was a hillbilly asshole who parented Bloodbath (after his dad's death) with a leather belt and a lot of other fucked up things? The man's emotionally stunted, awkward as hell, and has definite mommy issues - see Kim Coulter/Horus Osbourne. I dunno. I feel like he's believable enough. It's your turn to argue if you want.

At the end of the day, all I'm saying is take a gamble on vulnerability. Experiment with emotions. Flesh out your characters, because flash in the pan badasses are a definite turn-off as far as I'm concerned... but that's just one veteran's opinion. Take it or leave it.

Sorry, Wight. Just saying my peace. I'll sit down now.

No need to apologize, I agree with all of this. We as roleplayers tend to be so defensive of our characters that we build up this armor for them. We think that if somebody throws words against us, that if they're right, then we'll lose and that would be the worst. So we write our characters like nothing hits us and fire insults back. Or argue. I hate myself for encouraging it years ago, but god I HATE the pointless back and forth "who is more right" arguments in roleplays. There's so much more to talk about.

Losing is not the worst thing to happen to you in an e-fed. It sucks to put yourself out there and try your best only to be met with failure, but... like... don't put such stakes on it, in the first place. Because someone is always gonna be better, and the important part of this game is to tell STORIES. Wrestling stories, but still STORIES. There's a reason I copy and paste that paragraph into the end of every feedback thread; BECAUSE YOU NEED TO REMEMBER IT. Whether it's your first time here or your fiftieth time, it's IMPORTANT. YES, we are an RP fed. RPs are what drives card placement and match outcome. But just because that aspect is competitive, doesn't mean it's about who's "more right" or who's "less vulnerable". We liked Spike Dudley's storyline with Molly Holly because he was vulnerable. We like Rusev because he isn't afraid to be silly despite being a big badass. It's the reason the New Day is popular, and why the ... dive of indie wrestling is so over; we get that it's a work and we want to see the workers having fun and being themselves.

It's why I reward people who make jokes, interact with other RPers, reveal personal stuff, react like humans, or put over OTHER characters. Above and beyond being funny, clever, and well-written I picked Freakshow to win this week because HE PUT OVER HIS OPPONENTS. And really well, too! Go back and take a look since I've been a judge here. I LOVE that shit.

Gus Richlen WAS one of those "I'm so fucking badass" wrestlers for so long, and in the last few months he's gotten SO MUCH BETTER because he's exploring shit. It doesn't always work out, but it's worth the gamble to do something fun and interesting versus something boring and "safe".

But I can't volunteer that feedback every week, because people can't take it every week. I know I can't. So I'm always available via PM to give deep feedback, and I'm just appreciative everyone put forth an effort, so we focus on that. And people seem to handle that better. *shrugs*

Going against the grain, I'm not going to strip away the badass-ness just yet. I've played the character Wight talks about bending over backwards and being vulnerable for so long that the badass is a nice change of pace. I especially enjoy the roleplays where Scope doesn't actually say anything, it's nice to not worry about the verbals and focus on description of movement.

Shame about Jason Fenix, same as it was with Dr. Shrapnel. I'm confident Freakshow won't go the same way!

Props to Wight for the writing and I'm liking the formation of the two five man teams.

There's a difference between a good writer playing a badass and a scared writer hiding behind a badass. You're on the right side of that divide.
