Backstage in the Millennium Dome, we see Matt Impact’s locker room – depicted by the ‘Matt Impact’ name on the door. From behind the camera Orion Oldriod appears, dressed casually in black jeans and a loose white shirt. He pushes the door open to find Matt Impact on his telephone. Impact: Yeah man, you should watch…special referee, you heard right…first step on my road back to the World title. *Cough* Orion coughs loudly to get his attention and Impact looks up. He sighs and finishes his conversation. Impact: I’ll speak to you later, something has just arrived. He flips his phone shut to end the conversation and stands up to face Orion, the World Champion is pre-occupied admiring the referee’s shirt that hangs from a hook on the wall. Impact: What do you want? Orion: Just coming in to say hello, formally introduce myself to you. Oldriod offers his hand but Matt Impact looks confused. Orion then smirks. Orion: Oh, but of course we know each other! If I remember it correctly, I took my World title from you! Impact: YOUR World title? I don’t think so. You’re just keeping it warm for me until I get it back. Orion: Wait, your title and not Nightmare’s? I get lost with all these different people claiming that this belt is theirs when the only rightful owner, the only man that can make claim to it is currently carrying it around with them. Impact: Was this what you came to see me about? Enhancing your own ego, that’s pathetic! Orion: No, Matt. I came to see you because of that. Orion points to the striped referee shirt. Impact: I’ve already spoken to Nightmare and we’ve agreed on a couple of things so I guess you want to do the same. Orion: You’ve agreed on a couple of things? Like that you’re going to work together to cost me this belt and then you’ll have avenged your loss to me in the Championship Chamber? Impact: Nothing like that, our time will come but what we agreed was that I’m going to call this match right down the middle. Give no advantage to Nightmare…or to you. Whoever walks out of this arena with the belt around their waist will be the true rightful World Champion and I’ll make sure of it! Orion: Let me tell you what you need to do, you need to keep your eyes on Nightmare. He’s a sneaky competitor when the ref’s back is turned, everybody knows it. Impact: Don’t try to take my focus off you! I know what you’re capable of. I’ll lay a warning on you, if either you or Nightmare put a single hand on me then it will be fair game for me to rip whoever limb-from-limb! Orion: You don’t have anything to worry about on my side of things, heed my warning though…watch Nightmare and don’t forget about his goons at ringside. There’s nothing Ordinary about that couple of weirdos. And Camille? Don’t get me started on her. If things aren’t going Nightmare’s way then she will be riding your ass to turn it in his favour. Impact shakes his head in defiance. Impact: Won’t affect me. Orion: A beautiful woman turns on the ‘charm’ and Matt Impact can resist? She’s nothing but a slut Matt; she’ll use you like she used me a few months back. Impact: I’ve got my end covered. Orion: I hope you have. Impact: I just said I did, didn’t I? Orion: All right…ref. Calm down! I’ll come back later… Impact: Don’t bother! Stirring up sh*t around here, it’s not needed! Oldriod seems to have made his point and walks backwards as Impact doesn’t take his eyes off Orion. He fumbles around his back for the door handle before leaving and Impact slams the door shut behind him. Orion curses Matt under his breath until he walks into Jeff Noon. Orion: Can I not get a minute to myself???? Jeff: Sorry Orion. I didn’t want an interview if that helps. Orion: It does. The World Champion tries to walk away but Jeff follows him. Jeff: There was just one thing though…it won’t be taped I promise. Orion: Very quickly! Jeff: How do you feel about Ragin’ saying that he’d prefer it if Nightmare beat you? That’d make his road to the title easier… Orion: It certainly would but it won’t happen. Ragin’ can think, prey and wish that Nightmare beats me but it won’t happen. I’m holding onto this a lot longer than anybody imagined. Ragin’ has and always will be selfish, thinking about number one – himself over anybody else. I kind of admire that. Jeff: Oh ok, I just wondered. Orion moves to leave, finally but then turns back around to face Noon. Orion: Actually Jeff, I could use a man like you. Jeff: Me? Orion: The very same. I need a message delivering to your good buddy Nightmare, you up for that? Jeff: Sure! What is it? ‘The Oracle’ pauses, choosing his words carefully. He then puts his hand on Jeff’s shoulder. Orion: Go to Nightmare and ask him when exactly he has ever beaten somebody twice in one night or even gained two separate falls in one night. Let’s take a trip back in time, to Slam! on the 1st of May 2004. That night Orion Oldriod not only defeated Stephanie Zebra and Tommy King in a triple threat match but then went on and beat Ragin’ in a one-night tournament. Two falls in one night. Jeff: Ok…anything else? Orion: How about Anarchy in the UK 2004, last year’s event. It’s The Elite versus Anti-Elite, 8-man tag team action. Orion Oldriod makes Kain tap out and then pins Ragin’. Two falls in one night, in one match even. Or let’s think about Rebirth 2005, the Championship Chamber match. I beat both Ragin’ and then Matt Impact for this belt. Two falls in one night, in one match! Jeff nods enthusiastically but then stops nodding. Jeff: Your point being? Oldriod stares down at Jeff. Orion: My point Jeff is that I have done it all before, two falls in one night and twice in one match. I am experienced in these matters and Nightmare is not. Matt Impact thinks Nightmare has a clear advantage over me? I don’t think so! I’m always one step ahead and as far as Nightmare is concerned, I will always be one step ahead…or more. So ask him, ask him if his resume matches mine. Jeff: I understand now. Can you get off my shoulder please, it hurts! Orion has been progressively pushing down on Jeff’s shoulder and he lets go with a grin. A hand print has been left on Jeff’s jacket and he scurries off, Orion looking somewhat satisfied with the outcome of their little talk. |
