Spiral Out, Keep Going

The scene opens up. Where? Who cares. We're not coming here to look at the scenery, we're here to chew the scenery. It's some nondescript hallway somewhere. Again, not important. What is important, however, is that magnificent bastard Rurik Krychek standing there with the Grand Prix Championship hanging off his shoulder. Krychek: Good evening, FIW. I've been quiet, but I'm feeling there has been a distinct lack of verbosity in our fair company as of late and there is little question that my silence has been the primary cause of this condition. I know how much the meandering minds of my colleagues missed being able to spill forth their hackneyed accusations of boredom and sleep inducing orations. They only have so many preconceived thoughts to fall back on, after all. Notice my first time back on the microphone in weeks immediately encouraged one of the rubes to repeat their mindless mantras. But, fear not. I'm here to talk now. And I'm here to talk about Rise of a Legend where I and five other competitors will find ourselves locked together in a cage, the first time this match has been booked in almost four years. Four years is a long time in this business. Case in point there's only one man from that match still in the company. Neo Carner. Unless you want to count Shaun Wilson, if he's back on one of his frequent attempts to become relevant again or Pyotr Sadovsky if he has not been accidentally fired... Oh, ho. Running jokes. Say, maybe Reign is the reason Shaun Wilson keeps coming and going. What with his just signing his names on random pieces of paper, accidentally firing people. Krychek: That's five men, five men whose journey and rise to be legends were cut short. Not that all are capable of such immortality. Clay Krueger with his being the first man to win the Dual Crown Championship twice in its present incarnation; Rick Nuller for all his tremendous popularity; Christian Cruz with his having held every championship in this company. Memorable names, no argument about that. But legends? No, and the chances of their returning to finish off the rise is unlikely. Krueger is in and out nearly as frequently as Wilson, Nuller's knees are likely blown out to the point that even a single match is out of the question, and Cruz is off somewhere in the Nevada desert creating sociopathic art with his tart of a stalker. The thing about being a legend is there isn't one moment where you can look back in hindsight and say 'this is when I became a legend.' It's about being a strong consistent presence, creating moments and memories, rising to the occasion time after time. This event has a cute name, it's a good promotional tactic and an acceptable gimmick to talk about, but here's the thing, when it comes right down to it, the concept of the event is irrelevant to me. I'm already a legend. And dare I say, if you were to ask nearly anyone on this card if they were a legend, they would say they were already one. Neo Carner, DeaconDEATH, Quincy Wilson, Ethan Adams, hell, even James Schwartz, I suspect, would say he were. The problem is there's only two people as far as I'm concerned that have earned that right on this present day roster of wrestlers. Ethan Adams can boast having held every title available, Neo Carner can boast holding the Dual Crown Championship, but a legend is someone that climbed to that mountain top and, if I may become repetitious, built a ladder to climb that little bit further. The metaphor is accompanied by Krychek using his hand to guide us as it rose to the 'mountain top' and then his going a little higher to show us that ladder. Because visual aids are helpful when someone is speaking. Krychek: Now, of course, the event is paying homage to the rise of a new legend and the argument of whether or not one already is one isn't one against the rise of a new legend. But, it is the difference between someone that has found the secret to rising to the occasion and people still learning. I could run down the enture roster, but let's stick to my match. Let's start by talking about the Rogarou. Popularity and a bit of voodoo is a far cry from enough credentials to be a legend. Max Rowley hasn't make much advancement from last year when I made it clear he is a glorified choke-artist. No championship more important than the Fighting Spirit Championship and the World Tag Team Championship. His greatest claim to fame the Lady Luck tournament victory last year and finally, after ten-plus losses, pinned me. Now, yes, pinning me is an amazing feat. But he only succeeded in proving me right in the long run. Now, Mungrel is the closest to being on the verge of ascending. He is the second of two men to be a two-time Dual Crown Champion, of the championship's present incarnation. If he wins at Rise of a Legend and goes on to be Dual Crown Champion again I don't think there's a question he'll be one... But his rise will not be on Monday the 30th. And, for that record, neither will Nathaniel Alexander. The Despot of FIW pauses for a moment, taking a deep breath before continuing. Krychek: Speaking of that opportunistic man... You want my Grand Prix Championship. Well, there's a problem with that idea of yours and that is because it is not up for the taking. This is mine. It is the crown jewel of the Kingdom Krychek and it's machinations towards the Dual Crown in this year. I'm not stupid enough to risk a sure thing just because a common pleb has decided to lash out at a god. But I'm not stupid, I know how this business works. You attacked me, I respond informing you that your place is beneath me, it's all going to lead up to some confrontation in the ring. So, here's the deal. I'll give you a chance to be physically reminded why I earned the Grand Prix Championship in the first place...and the second place...and give your soul and ego the enema it needs. Because you don't stand on the same level as I do, Mr. Diamond Standard. No, in fact there are only two men on this roster, on this card, and in this match that deserve the recognition of legends. We were your one time Tag Team Champions of the World, and that's all we needed as our reign was of such historical significance I don't need to run down the list of why... But I'm sure I will, soon enough. Smile. Wink. Nod. He knows he can't resist forever. Krychek: In case you weren't alive in the year of twenty-fourteen, allow me to introduce them... My name is Rurik Krychek. His name is Billy Walker. And together we are...the Good Men. ...and I'm sorry, Walker, but I have my sights set on victory on Sunday. I'm sure you aren't interested in my Machiavellian reasons. Rest assured, however, I come to the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas to continue my march towards the Dual Crown Championship. The main event needs a stern reminder why their match is an act of futility. A stern look to hammer home that stern reminder. Fade out. By the way, there was a fake potted plant in the hallway. It's uh, well it's a little late to point that out. Really would have dressed up the scene more to know that in the beginning, but I said we were hear to chew the scenery and I felt I had to stick by it. So...yeah. That's the promo. Hope you enjoyed it. I'm doing kind of an odd rambling ending, that's probably because Family Guy is on that's ah...that's kind of one of their signature jokes. Things going on past when they should have ended. No real joke, just kind of wasting time. Vote for the Dai-tatorship. |
