We open on the sight of Liam Mortell, still sweating from his match on Revolt, and still dressed in his wrestling gear standing in front of what can only be described as a generic promo background. It is appropriately themed in FIW colours, with metal poles twisting about, giving a little sense of carnage and destruction, just the sort of image FIW likes to portray. The back drop itself it made of camouflage material and netting. Slightly off centre, and more towards the top left corner, affixed to one of the metal poles, is a flat screen television, displaying an animated version of the FIW logo. Liam stands, hands on hips and a giant smile on his face. The Fighting Spirit Championship sits around his waist, shimmering in the light. Liam glances down at the title belt, and his smile grows even bigger. He looks back up to the camera. Liam: “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. Earlier this evening I defeated Sean Madrox, the Fighting Spirit Champion, in a match I’d never been in before; a Bare-knuckle boxing match. Despite the fact that Ethan Adams attempted to distract me, and despite the fact that Sean Madrox was prepared to use brass knuckles, I came out victorious and won my first championship here in FIW. In fact, it’s the first championship I’ve held in quite a long time…and it’s a wonderful feeling.” Liam stops, hearing a rustling. He turns to look behind him, and to the sides, but sees nothing and decides to continue. Liam: “Ever since my match has finished I’ve been re-watching the finish. How close I came to being knocked out with the brass knuckles and potentially receiving a serious injury, and therefore loosing my shot at the championship. But, I didn’t. I turned around just in time, somehow managed to see Madrox’s fist flying towards my face, and ducked just enough to dodge the shot and was able to land a knock-out shot of my own.” Another rustle. Liam squints, suspecting something, perhaps Ethan Adams attempting a pre-match attack? He waits for a moment before carrying on. Liam: “Now, two weeks ago, both myself and Ethan were joint winners in the match to determine the number one contender to this championship around my waist. And, for whatever reason, I received my shot first and managed to win the thing. I realise that Ethan Adams is due a shot, and in spite of what I think of him as a person I will honour that title shot. WHAT THE F-?” Liam quickly side steps from where he was standing, revealing a microphone being clasped in a hand that is extending from the backdrop. Suddenly a foot comes bursting through, soon followed with a lot of struggling and almost the entire body of FIW interviewer Herman Cardgage. The only thing that hasn’t made it through is his right arm. Herman tugs several times, and finally the arm makes it through, but his trademark grocery bag gets caught on one of the metal poles and rips open, spilling the contents all over the floor. Liam: “Bloody hell! What the good gooses is this?” Herman looks down at the floor, a tear rolling down his cheek. He looks up at Liam with an accusatory look in his eyes. Liam puts up him palms as defensive gesture. Herman sweeps his now free hand through his hair and brings the microphone to his mouth. Herman: “I’m Cerman Hardcage…Herman Cardgage…and I’m here to intervene you. Next week you have a ‘ladders are legal’ match with Adam Ethans. Your thoughts?” Herman shoves the microphone uncomfortably close to Liam’s mouth, so Liam takes a step back. Liam: “Well, as I was saying before you…arrived…that Ethan earned his shot and I’m not going to do anything to deny him his title shot…not that I could. This match is certainly an interesting prospect. Ladders are legal, but the title belt is not suspended above the ring, correct?” There is no response from Herman, so Liam just continues. Liam: “It could provide for a lot of interesting situations, ones that I’ve not been put in since I arrived here in FIW…though it is not to say I’m inexperienced with ladders. If truth be told, the majority of my retraining involved a lot of practice with ladders and how to use them with the confines of the wrestling ring. Although, I must admit the concept of ladders being legal yet in being a normal match is foreign to me. I won’t complain though…as…it…will.” Liam slows to a stop as Herman sinks towards the floor. He continues to look up at Liam, holding his microphone up as high as possible, and using his other hand to blindly search around the floor for one of his dropped, melted candy bars. Liam raises an eyebrow, in an almost Rock-like gesture. Herman, having grabbed a candy bar, slowly ascends back up to a fully upright position as Liam watches him. Liam: “…be a great match, I’m sure. Both Ethan and I are…” He stops again, this time because Herman is about to eat the candy bar. Liam shakes his head to say no but Herman puts the candy bar into his mouth and takes a big bite, and begins to chew it noisily. Liam shudders. Liam: “I think I’d better go, get changed. Um…take care of yourself…Herman.” Liam backs away slowly, before turning around and swiftly walking down the corridor. The camera pans back around to Herman who takes another big bite of candy bar, looking hardly bothered that his interviewee just walked off. We fade away. |
