The freeway is jammed and backed up for miles. Throwing logic out of the window for just a brief second, a commercial for better quality auto parts freezes half-way through and, rather than resume, everything goes black. The scene opens elsewhere, most likely backstage at the Triple C Arena in Panguitch, Utah. All that can be seen is 'The KoopaManiac' Ash Koopa sat with a solemn expression on his face as he stares into the distance that lingers somewhere to the right of the camera lens. The oddest thing about this entire scene is Ash's garb; black trousers and a dull red t-shirt with the KoopaManiac logo shown in reverse across the chest. Ash: "I couldn't help myself, I just couldn't. I'm sorry. I can only hope you accept my apology.." The KoopaManiac sighs and looks to floor, then focuses back on whomever he appears to be talking with. Ash: "Somewhere deep inside of me is this monster. A beast that lurks so deep in the depths of my subconscious that I sometimes doubt it ever really existed. And just as I tend to forget about it, the beast begins to hunger for carnage and devastation. A bloodlust of sorts. It's a sick, sadistic creature that is so demonic that I doubt even Satan himself would want to accept it into his realm when I pass over to the other side. The Mister Hyde to my Doctor Jekyll.." A slight smirk crosses Ash's face, as it to suggest he likes the idea of being a modern day adaptation of the famous story. Ash: "It emerged fully eight years ago and nearly destroyed everything I had done up to that point. But instead of wiping everything out, it recreated things in a new image with incredible expertise and efficiency, establishing itself as a completely separate identity from myself and even managed to exceed my own achievements. It called itself Phoenix, rising up from my broken soul. The only flaw was that it lashed out again and again, until it brought down its own world and fell into self-pity, before finally retreating to the murky depths of my subconscious once again. And there it has stayed ever since." Staring sombrely, Ash bites his bottom lip in a brief moment of hesitation. Ash: "I promised myself I would never be that weak again. Phoenix was the result of self-doubt and an inability to accept myself. When I couldn't deliver the goods, Phoenix came to my aid and did everything that I never could. The purple hair hid all of my inadequacies and put me above everyone else in such a way that I could never be removed from my throne, unless I chose to abdicate myself. That's not to say I enjoyed the success and reputation I garnered, because I didn't. I hated myself. And the constant anger continued to fuel the beast, making it more manic and aggressive, until Phoenix itself could no longer cope with the pressures and fell to pieces. I killed the monster I created and set me free with a new perspective." As if to emphasise his point, Ash nods to whoever is listening. Ash: "When I came to America two years ago, I promised that Phoenix would never re-emerge and that all of my successes would come from my own abilities. Playing the role of the KoopaManiac was supposed to represent all that is pure and innocent in this terrifying world. No curse words were allowed to leave my lips, with them being replaced by cute alternatives. Hell became heck. Fuck became fudge. Underhand tactics weren't an option. Nothing could be done that might stir the beast in such a way that it would want to come through and start another rampage. The last one lasted six years. I can only assume the beast has become stronger and more knowledgeable; I dread to imagine how long it could survive if it were to re-emerge for a second time.." Again, Ash sighs. Ash: "Since arriving in America, my mental strength has been tested too many times to count and, each time, I could sense Phoenix stirring at the back of my mind. It would eventually settle again and I could continue the ways of the KoopaManiac, spreading joy and cheer in every town and city that I performed in, as well as through the power of television. Signing with Full Intensity Wrestling granted me a wonderful opportunity to spread my message, but it also presented Phoenix with his best opportunity as well.." Looking to the floor, Ash wipes at his mouth with his left hand and stares intently for just a few seconds, before turning back and focusing on his good Samaritan. Ash: "This place; this promotion has created a high pressure environment in which Phoenix could thrive. A week doesn't seem to pass without someone putting a knife in my back or kicking dust in my face. My temper easily flares, and even with a great partner, I just don't seem capable of meeting people's expectations. I can't even meet your expectations.." Seemingly disappointed, Ash shakes his head in despair. Ash: "And two weeks ago, when Daisuke screwed us out of the match and our opportunity at the Tag Team Championships, the switch flicked. Ash wasn't quite in control anymore; I still wonder if I've regained control of this body. Being granted a cane match was possibly the greatest thing that could have happened in my mental state, because it allowed the beast within to unleash some of its anger. I may not have gotten total retribution on Daisuke, but I still managed to lay a few shots on his associates. And, as luck would have it, we have an opportunity at the new champions this Friday. I get to put my hands around Daisuke's throat and choke the bastard into submission. I can put Blonde out of his misery as well, by dropping him on his head with the AK-75. As far as I'm concerned, nothing is going to stop the team with no name from capturing the Tag Team Championships on Friday night!" A sly grin crosses Ash's face and he sits up, suddenly looking more invigorated and alive than he has for the last couple of weeks. The camera pans around to reveal Ash's company, only to show the KoopaManiac sat across from himself. With the logo on his t-shirt reading correctly, it's quite clear that Ash has been talking to his reflection. And to make this more obvious, the camera pans backward to reveal Ash and the mirror at the same time, clearing up any confusion for those who haven't been paying attention. Ash: "We're gonna win the belts.." With that said, Ash turns and grins at the camera, before raising his right hand and giving a thumbs up. Slowly, Ash gets to his feet and walks toward the camera, only to swerve at the last second and disappear from the shot. And then, we fade. :: END :: |
