The image of a foot thwacking into a large, blue punching bag brings this roleplay to its open. A familiar face (to some) pops out from behind the bag, looking less than thrilled with the effort put behind it. For those that don’t know him, his name is Jesse Martin. Long time friend of Jaime Lee and her sister (April Lynn, longest reigning Cruiserweight Champion in FIW, yeah her). He lets out a ragged sigh and shakes his head. Jaime: What?! The camera swivels around to show Jaime Lee; wearing a pair of gray sweatpants, a pink sports bra and a pair of red boxing gloves. Her hair has been pulled back in a ponytail, two tendrils framing her flushed face. She holds her boxing gloved hands out to her side, eyes wide in desperation. Jesse: Jaime, that’s pathetic. You really think that’s going to do any damage to someone in the match? Jaime puts a gloved hand on the punching bag, tapping it. Jaime: It’s not someone in the match. It’s a punching bag. Jesse: You have to have a little imagination here, James. This could be one of your opponents. So try it again. Jesse ducks behind the bag but Jaime makes no move to attack. Instead, she stands with a dumbfounded look upon her face. Not that difficult to imagine, is it? Jesse realizes the bag isn’t being pummeled, so he peeks around once again. Jesse: What are you doing? Pretend it’s one of your opponents. Jaime: Yeeeeeah. If it were one of my opponents, it wouldn’t just be standing there, ya know? Besides, you didn’t come all the way out here to watch me beat up a bag… right? Jesse’s eyes do their best to avoid looking at Jaime’s. And I don’t mean he’s looking at her sweaty figure (or maybe he is). Jaime’s eyes narrow in on her old friend, her boxing gloves finding a resting spot on her hips. Jaime: Jesse? Jesse: Well, I’m sorry! It’s just, you need to be focused. This match could catapult you to the top of this place. Jaime breathes out a disgruntled sigh, tugging the gloves off her hands. Holding them by the strings, she lets them dangle at her sides while continuing to glare at Jesse. Who, by the way, has realized Jaime isn’t going to continue this training and is now leaning against the bag (which is anchored from the top and bottom, for the record). Jaime: Why are you and April so obsessed with MY career? I thought we decided after SLA that we weren’t going to butt into each other’s lives like this. Jesse: I know, I know! I just couldn’t help it. He pretty much said you weren’t focused. That you spent all your time on meeting people and finding boyfriends. Jaime lets out another sigh, this one less disgruntled which helps relieve some of the worry on Jesse’s face. Jaime moves towards the bench nearby, dropping to side on it and lower the gloves to the floor. Jaime: You’re talking about Skuld and Odin. Jesse doesn’t hide his surprise very well, assuming he was actually trying to hide it in the first place. Probably not. He moves away from the punching bag, looking down at Jaime with curiosity. Jesse: You… saw their discussion? Jaime nods her head, offering Jesse a meek smile. Jaime: You know, just because I like to make friends and… I don’t know, have a few crushes. Jesse smiles at Jaime’s last comment. A few is a huge understatement. Jaime: It doesn’t mean I’m not focused on my career. It doesn’t mean I’m not keeping an eye on the competition. I’m just… not going to get way extra-curricular about it. People around here don’t exactly keep their intentions on the down-low. It doesn’t take much to keep up on them. Jesse moves closer, squatting down in front of Jaime. He looks her dead in the eyes and returns her meek smile. Jesse: I’m sorry I came here with an ulterior motive. I just worry about you is all. Jesse playfully knocks her knee with his knuckles, getting a smile from the usually bubbly personality. Jesse: Just try not to take everyone at their word. That’s how you get deceived. Or Adam Wilsoned, as we now say back in Aurora. Jaime lets out her usual laugh we’ve all come to know and love from her. Jaime: Thanks. That really makes me feel a whole lot better. Thanks a lot. Jaime puts a hand on Jesse’s shoulder, flashing him a sarcastic glance. Jesse: Hey, you’re the one that fell for him. Not me. Jaime: Yeah, thanks for reminding me. Jesse: No problem. Now come on, let’s get out of here. Find something fun to do. Jaime: Sounds like a plan. Together, the two both stand up once more. Jesse motions for Jaime to go first, like the try gentleman he is. Jaime hesitates a moment before moving in and wrapping her arms around Jesse’s neck with a hug. Jaime: Thanks, Jesse. For everything. Jesse’s response is delayed a moment before he wraps his arms around Jaime. Jaime releases her hold on him, pulling back only to find herself still caught up in Jesse’s hug. She looks into his eyes, or would if they weren’t closed, and let’s out a laugh that brings Jesse back to reality. He opens his eyes and quickly releases her. Jesse: Oh… uh, sorry. Jaime: You’re crazy, boy. Jaime playfully pushes his shoulder before leading the way out of the gym. Jesse watches her exit a moment before hurrying to keep up with her. |
