Crackerjack performs his fiftieth jumping jack when something suddenly hits him. Therefore, to fully think it clearly, Crackerjack stops and begins to look around in between his deep breaths. The gym, the same place he’s been going to since he’s been training with Stan for his big rematch style thing. I mean, it’s not really a rematch, it’s just another shot at the same title but with someone else holding it. It’s kind of hard to explain, really. So figure it out, ‘cause I’m not explaining it any further. Anyway, Crackerjack continues to look around the well-lit gym. Sunlight enters through windows that rise above the walls so if you should hit the wall with a ball, nothing’ll get broken. Pretty clever design as Crackerjack continues to look around the place. Nothing much out of the ordinary of this light blue walled, wooden floored, possibly fluorescent light lit gym.

Chester: Hey, where’s the lard ass?

Exactly, that’s what’s out of place. Where exactly is Stan Stevens? Because he was in the middle of doing a thousand jumping jacks, as told by Stan, he never really noticed his “mentor” sneak out. There isn’t any equipment out, so there’s nowhere for him to hide inside. Clearly then he was either in the washrooms or outside running away.

Chester: So…bail?

Crackerjack turns towards him and shakes his head. He can’t just up and leave just because Chester requests it. Though…it’s probably what Stan has already done. Crackerjack instead decides to look around for him. If he is gone, Crackerjack might have to leave as well. But he’d rather know for sure that Stan is actually gone before he leaves him. But in fact, Stan hasn’t left Crackerjack. He’s just left the larger portion of the gym and is now hiding in the washroom looking at the mirror when the door opens. Crackerjack peers inside as Stan catches his reflection. Turning around, Stan puts on his best smile.

Stan: Hey, I’ll be out there in a minute.

Stan looks back into the mirror as Crackerjack slowly closes the door. Before he closes it completely, Crackerjack gives Stan a final glance before shrugging his shoulders and leaving.

Dan: That’s pathetic. Do it again!

Stan: Yes sir!

We join a younger Stan Stevens during his training days out in a grassy field. In the background is a logging camp used by the famous “The Man” Dan Patrick in an attempt to train young up and comers to compete in the world of wrestling. Dan runs his fingers through his afro before bending down to watch to see if Stan has gotten it yet. Stan hoists Killboy Powerhead up onto his shoulders and is in the midst of twirling him around but loses his balance and falls backwards with Killboy crushing on top of him. Dan looks away in disgust and turns back down to face Stan who struggles to get up moments after Killboy has gotten off.

Dan: Man, how can some crazy cracker like you even think you be havin’ the skills to compete? You can’t even perform a simple 5 cent stamp without losing your balance. Whatever, that’s it for today. Back to your rooms.

Dan rises back up and begins to walk away as Stan just sits there watching Dan go when he hears his fellow students behind him taunting him.

Sammy D.: Man, you suck. You’d be better off as some tackle dummy for the football team.

Blithe: Yea, I hear they’re callin’ for tryouts this year. Maybe you should apply.

All the other trainees join in on the laughing and taunting as Stan rises up to his feet and brushes himself off. Then, turning towards his peers, Stan yells out.

Stan: Keep talkin’, because one day I’ll be “The Man”!

Killboy: Keep going like that and you’ll be “The Coushin”.

Killboy and the others start up laughing again as Stan storms away towards his room. Later that night, Dan walks through the camp on patrol for any loose and wild animals. The camp is in the middle of a forest. About around the time he decides to turn in, Dan notices someone out in the field tussling around with a piece of old lumber. Quietly, Dan approaches the person. When he realizes who it is, he stands behind the corner of a building and watches. The person ends up being Stan as he tries to complete the 5 cent stamp with the lumber but keeps tripping on his feet. Finally, after the twenty seventh viewed attempt, Stan drops to the ground and starts to cry. Dan is ready to head out when he hears Stan speaking as he rises up.

Stan: No, I can’t give up. Dan never gave up. Just you wait, Powerhead, one day you will call me “The Man”.

Dan watches the rest of Stan’s attempts until he falls tired on the ground an hour later. Dan walks over and picks Stan up before carrying him back to the bunks. The next morning, Stan wakes up to realize that it’s late in the afternoon. Stan quickly hops out of bed and charges for the door. When he opens it, he finds Dan standing there hands on his hips.

Dan: Let’s go, Stevens.

Dan turns and starts to walk away as Stan looks out and sees him approaching the group. Stan swallows hard and heads towards the group. As he approaches them, he notices Dan lift an arm towards the others motioning for them to stop. As Stan continues to approach Dan turns and announces his arrival.

Dan: Well, it looks like our supposed rising star has finally awoken and decided to join us. Stan!

Stan suddenly stops dead in his tracks and looks up at Dan who folds his arms over his massive chest whilst glaring down at him.

Dan: Perform the 5 cent stamp. Fail it today, and you’ll fail this class. Don’t try, and you stay, but I’ll refuse to teach you anything.

Stan swallows hard again, even harder than before as he steps towards Killboy who huffs a small laugh. Over to the side, Stan notices Sammy waving good bye to him. Moments before he fully approaches Powerhead, Stan feels a hand rest on his shoulder. Stan looks up to find Dan nodding. Stan returns the nod, complete with another hard gulp as he turns back towards Powerhead. Stan walks towards him and hoists him up onto his shoulder. Over behind him, Sammy stands with arms folded across his chest defiantly as Blithe just gives out a mocking laugh. Stan closes his eyes to try and avoid noticing them and begins to perform. Moments later, Stan finds himself on the ground watching as Powerhead rises up with a smirk on his face. Not too far away he can hear both Blithe and Sammy laughing. Stan rises up knowing that he’s failed and begins to walk away when Dan calls out to him.

Dan: Stevens, where you going?

Stan turns around, tears starting to develop in his eyes.

Stan: You—You said…

Dan: I know what I said, and I’m saying that you’re staying put.

Stan: B-but…

Dan: Listen, you failed in your attempt. If you leave here a failure, what does it say about me? I know you have the determination otherwise you wouldn’t have attempted such a move. If you hadn’t, then I would’ve known that you gave up on yourself. So by trying and failing, you showed more hear than I’ve seen since…well, me. And it’s because of that, that I will finish teaching you. Every bit of me will be passed down to you. Including…the name.

Stan looks up at Dan teary and stary eyed for a moment knowing exactly what his mentor is talking about. Suddenly, Dan grows teary eyed as he drops down to a knee.

Dan: It’s okay, you can cry! I’ll cry too! It is an emotional time!

Both Dan and Stan embrace eachother in a hug crying their eyes out as Killboy, Blithe, and Sammy watch on in both disgust and horror. They continue to watch the man who they had come to believe as a “tough guy” crying his eyes out before them. Soon, they just turn and walk away.

Stan slaps the mirror again and turns towards the door. Walking out of it, he catches Crackerjack just sitting there. Crackerjack soon notices him and stands up. Not to greet him, but just to stretch his legs. Stan, smiling now for real, gives a strong, hearty laugh.

Stan: Alright, time to get serious.
