Daisuke: Fighting Spirit... Now, there is a phrase that brings back memories... Now here's a new one: Daisuke 'The Crow' Tanaka unaccompanied. No flunkies, bodyguards, assassins or people of hench, just the man himself with a pleasant smile on his face, walking down a desert road. Not that there's too much significance in that beyond being in Arizona. Luckily for him, it's dusk, so the jet-black suit isn't making sweat or do anything else unseemly. All he does is walk, and even then the only sign is the moving background; He also has a few words... Daisuke: I do not think I have to explain it to you, Mr. Mortell. You seem to have a good enough grasp on it already, I do however, have some other small business to attend to, before I get to you. He slightly rolls his eyes here, shaking his head Daisuke: Yes, I have two imbecilic rivals of my own to deal with. Two rivals who grasp not the concept of the Rope Break, or of the Time Limit. Tell me gentlemen, if I had you pinned so close to the ropes, would you expend energy kicking a one hundred and twenty kilogramme lump of whining britishness off, when all you have to do is rest your toes on the rope? This needs a tiny bit of thought. Daisuke: Of course you would, but that is because you are both wasteful. You are both inefficient. You were held to a thirty minute draw, and what do you do? You moan. You complain. You waste your days with impotent hatred of me. This, my friends, is getting you no-where. Daisuke stops to think for a second, lets out s sharp chuckle, as he comes to an amazing revelation. Daisuke: Not so long ago, gentlemen, I was in a similar situation. I and my associate were held to a time limit. It was a slight discouragement, and it threw us slightly, and management were completely unsympathetic to our cause. Much like they are for you, now. Gentlemen, what you need to do is cease your complaints, and desist in your threats and set about making your own destiny. Of course, now it is my turn to be wasteful, since I know you will not listen to me. Apart from the promo he's cutting, Daisuke is actually having a nice evening walk, which he's quite enjoying. He stops to take a breath of the desert air, letting it out with a contented sigh, carrying on once he's done that. Daisuke: And now to the business of the day, Mr. Mortell. Before you lies the possibilty of one last chance at greatness and immortality, but I think you already know that, or else your boots would already have been hung up. I do not, however think you know what lies behind you. He leaves that one to hang for a second. Daisuke: What lies behind you - or more accurately behind the title you carry - is four months of low down wastrels pretending to be worthy of the lowest title in FIW. We have a man whose mind was more fixed on what his wife thought of him; a man who thought that glory could be stolen instead of earnt; a man who thought he could only get noticed by setting upon an innocent family and a man who could not win his own glory with his own hands, needing instead to rely on chemical enhancements. He stops in his tracks, letting the camera get away from him for a second. Daisuke: This has been Full Intensity Wrestling's idea of Fighting Spirit. He raises an eyebrow at this, to make his point, before carrying on with his walk. Daisuke: But before all that, the Fighting Spirit Championship was held for well over half a year, defended successfully against ten different people*, by just the one man. This man understood what Fighting Spirit is, and now, at last, there is another champion who does too. Another pause for effect. They are sort of needed when there's no-one else to interrupt him. Daisuke: At least, I hope so, for your sake, Mr. Mortell. You see, I grew up with New & All Japan Pro Wrestling, and the Universal Wrestling Federation International, and I know what Fighting Spirit means. Not many would believe that right now, but never fear, because I do. I also understand what these Ultimate Endurance rules mean. He stops in his tracks, and rolls up his right trouser leg; revealing his wrestling boot**, a black shin-guard & knee pad. The shin-guard has the kanji for his name written down the front. Daisuke: A little history lesson for you. Before UWFi, was the original UWF, which was the fore-runner of modern MMA. In comparison to other styles of wrestling at the time, it was more controlled, more careful. It introduced into Pro Wrestling elements from other fighting styles, new strikes and holds; and gave them a simple, set of rules, so they could all fight in the same ring. The camera pans back up to his face for a moment, although he's still revealing his kick-pad. Daisuke: These simple rules make up the Ultimate Endurance rules. So you see, I grew up with the legacy of the UWF, the style of shin-pads I wear go back to Maeda and Takeda kicking any part of an opponent's body in range of their foot; I've had the honour of training at Kiyoshi Tamura's U-FILE Camp when I was younger. He rolls down his trouser leg, and carries on walking. Daisuke: Before the 'Super Ninja' and 'The Crow,' before the smoke-bombs and the needles and disregard for the rules, this is what there was... He trails off, staring out into the distance. ... Oh yeah, where was I? More importantly, where was he? Now he remembers. Daisuke: That was a long time ago, and I have made my own way since then. But do not get me wrong Mortell, I still remember, what the Ultimate Endurance comes from, and what Fighting Spirit means. You want to keep your title? You want to be remembered in the same breath as... Nope. He can't say it. Daisuke trails off again. Shaking his head, he carries on. Daisuke: I know what you need to do. Granted, I have not been doing it, of late, but I know. In the short time we will have together, ten, fifteen, twenty, perhaps if we are lucky, even getting on for thirty minutes, I will do my best to show you. But if you cannot keep up... Daisuke finishes on an ominous, and naturally evil sounding cawing laugh... [size0]* Only 7 defenses though. Some were multi person matches. ** Which he maintains that he walks quieter in than in normal shoes |
