We open a surprisingly bright outdoor scene. Surprising because we’re in, as a small caption in the bottom right corner of the screen says, Cheltenham, England. The camera pans around the vast green expanse of grass, which is surrounded at the edges by luscious, leafy, trees. They’re so luscious, because of the recent rain that England has been suffering from. Despite what you may have heard, it is still not usual for there to be rain in June and July. The camera continues to move around the park until we get to a children’s play area. It’s some distance from the camera and sat between us and the play area are several families sat around picnic rugs. We focus in on a familiar gentleman, sat alongside an unknown woman, perhaps his wife, but we don’t know for sure. Upon the black rug on which they are sat is a cool-bag and several children’s toys, suggesting they have children with them but they are playing in the play area. The familiar gentleman is indeed the current Fighting Spirit Champion, Liam Mortell. He’s wearing loose white linen trousers, with a greyish-blue polo shirt, and most noticeably absent is his title belt. The camera approaches slowly, and Liam stops talking to the unknown woman and acknowledges the camera. Liam: “Good afternoon all! I’d just thought I’d send a little message from my hometown to let you all know I’m not dead. In fact, I couldn’t be any further from dead. Last Friday, on Revolt, I managed to defeat potentially one of the hardest competitors I have faced so far in FIW.” Liam is passed a sausage roll by the unknown woman and takes a large bite, perhaps a little too large as he goes to continue speaking but just muffles out a couple of noises, and loosing a substantial amount of the pastry. He covers his mouth with his hand for a few moments, allowing himself enough time to fully swallow. Liam: “I was quite surprised at the respect I was shown by Daisuke Tanaka. From what I’ve heard from my team mates this week is that usually the man very willing to cheat to win, and that he will do anything to get the victory. However, when he fought against me, he was respectful and as far as I can remember didn’t break any rules that I wouldn’t.” He pauses. Liam: “Now I’d like to think that Tanaka fought respectfully because of the years of experience I have, and him wanting to beat someone like me honourably. However, I know that it’s all because of my title belt. Tanaka wouldn’t be able to handle winning the Fighting Spirit championship by cheating.” He emphasising the words Fighting Spirit, implying that’s the reason Daisuke wouldn’t want to cheat to win. Liam: “You know; I hope that this week, when I get the first opportunity to fight alongside my best friends in FIW, Ash Koopa and El Lumberjacko, that Tanaka will still recognise the fact that I am the Fighting Spirit champion and treat the match accordingly! It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity for the three of us to show what we can do. As an honorary member of the Team With No Name I promise to be my craziest in the ring. I’m going to completely let loose and have some fun.” Liam shoots his arms forward. It looks as if trying to hug the camera, but not, if you catch my drift. He quickly draws his arms back and rubs his right shoulder, but shakes off the slight pain with a smile. The smile drops a bit though, as he remembers something. Liam: “Heh! I just remembered who The Tanaka Zaibatsu have as their partner…Sean Madrox. If ever there was a more annoying gentleman than him, I haven’t met them. Well...I suppose Ethan Adams is, but he’s in a league of his own. He’s one we’ll definitely have to look out for, as I doubt if the man has any morals. He also has no respect for myself, nor any title belt – let alone the Fighting Spirit championship.” Liam: “But anyway, I’m not here to be depressed, or to get angry. I back home on a break. So I’ll keep this short and leave you, for the moment. Until I get back to the United States, I bid you…adieu.” With this he bows his head slightly, and we fade away. |
