Since You've Been Gone; [an Ash Koopa story]

Ash
Capt. Ash Kapow~!
[ * * * * * ]
I get the same old dreams, same time every night.
The scene opens from the dark to an unknown location within the University of Oregon Arena in Eugene, Oregon. A small, private room lined with a side board on the left and a worn-out, dark-green couch against the back wall. Sat in the middle of the couch, hunched forward with a bottle of Peca-Cola clasped in his hands is Ash Koopa, wearing a self-promoting KoopaManiac t-shirt. Surprisingly, Ash looks a lot happier and more down to earth than he has for the last month or so, despite wearing a thick layer of stubble on his face from a lack of shaving. With a smile, Ash greets the camera and sets the bottle of the floor, before focusing on the task at hand.

Ash: "The Epitome of Excellence."

He pauses and stares into the camera.

Ash: "That's how you introduced yourself a couple of weeks back, Hutch. Well, allow me to introduce myself through the power of video technology. I'm Ash Koopa, the KoopaManiac. And your opponent this Friday."

A smirk crosses Ash's face as he clenches his fists with the thumbs inside, causing the joints to give a resounding and uncomfortable pop. Looking slightly pained, Ash slowly unclenches his hands and stretches his thumbs out before continuing.

Ash: "I'll be honest straight off the bat with you, Hutch. I know very little about you. When you were here, I had my mind elsewhere, focusing on different tasks and titles. And when I came here, you'd gone off somewhere. I'm not going to look into your history, as there's very little point in assessing what you could do in the ring two or three years back. Times change and so do repertoires, and from the word on the street, you're quite the creative person in the ring, meaning that whatever you did back in the day will be different to what you do on Friday night. Not an issue whatsoever. Very little of your past concerns me, even if you are one of the most decorated wrestlers to have competed here in Full Intensity Wrestling. Any other day, I would applaud your successes in the ring, but not tonight. I'm not here to make you feel good or to boost your ego; I'm here to let you know what's going to go down when we meet.."

A smile crosses Ash's face and he chuckles to himself.

Ash: "Since this past Friday night, I've been in an incredibly good mood. I haven't smiled much lately, but since accepting this challenge of yours, I've been teeth and gums quite a bit. I don't know if it's because The Team With No Name scored a victory over The Revolution, but I doubt it very much. I think it's the fact that, if even for just one week, I can break away from the team and step out on my own, with absolutely no cares or concerns about the Tanaka Zaibatsu. You seem to be popular with the fans, Hutch, and that tells me just one thing about you; you're not in cahoots with Daisuke Tanaka and his band of merry morons. All I have to concern myself with is putting you down for the one. The two. And the three."

Whilst saying this, Ash raises three fingers on his right hand, whilst slapping an imaginary canvas with his left to signify a count. With that said, Ash picks up the bottle of Peca-Cola and slowly unscrews the cap, whilst keeping his eyes trained on the camera.

Ash: "There is one thing I really do like about this arrangement though.."

Pausing, Ash takes a long swig on the gut-rotting cola drink and wipes at his mouth with the back of his right hand. He casually screws the cap back on and sets the bottle down, before resuming.

Ash: "It's the fact that we're both English. You don't come across many English wrestlers in America; especially not ones that have been as successful as you, Hutch. Not only will be a civil war, but it'll be the North versus the South; The Toon Army of Newcastle versus The Royals of Reading. And that'll only make sense if you follow soccer, which I actually don't.."

With a grin, Ash shrugs off the comment.

Ash: "Now, I could go off on a little spew about how you've been away for a long time and you may not be running at full capacity yet, but that'd be crazy to under-estimate a man of your calibre. It'd make little sense either, as you're eight years younger and a damn sight fitter than I am. Chances are, you'd be able to last a lot longer in the ring than I would and I'd be stupid to even try and keep up with you. But I won't be giving you the opportunity to get ahead and run rings around me whilst you pull off some of your unique stuff. I'm no Xtreme Bathory double-team, but I reckon I can do a pretty good job to stop you in your tracks Hutch before you build your momentum. After all, I'm a few years wiser than you.."

Raising his eyebrows, Ash grins to the camera.

Ash: "For one week, the fans of Full Intensity Wrestling are going to get a fully-fledged, unadulterated KoopaManiac running wild in that ring. And when all is said and done, with all due respect, everyone will realise that once and for all, Starsky is better than Hutch.."

With a strange gleam in his eye, Ash nods to the camera, prompting it to spin around and reveal the promotional poster for the Starsky and Hutch film, only with Ash's face over Ben Stiller's and Hutch's image over that of Owen Wilson's. And, bizarrely, El Lumberjacko replaces Snoop Dogg as Huggy Bear and a bottle of syrup stands in place of Vince Vaughn.
And whilst Ash chuckles to himself in the background, the scene fades to black.
