Liam is sat in a comfortable looking blue chair, quite low down with large arm rests and placed almost directly in front of the camera. The background and surrounds are barely distinguishable; we can see the rough green outline of a plant and an orange glow that is reminiscent of a fire, or some kind of heater. Liam: “When I found out whom I was to be facing this week, I had planned in my head what I was going to say. Well, it’s obvious isn’t it? When you look at Prime what is it that you see? Oversized muscles, leathery skin, and a tuft of bleach blonde hair. Three signs all indicating a hollow man, consumed by his desire to look ‘good’.” Liam uses air quotes, as is to be expected. Liam: “And so, I was ready to launch an attack at the man’s character based solely on the assumptions I had made based on his appearance. As soon I was just about to record my statement going into this weeks match I was stopped by one of my friends. He showed me something that I could have never have guessed would be possible. What I witnessed was not a ‘hollow’ man, devoid of all emotions, obsessed with looking like an Adonis, but a man whose heart is as big as his biceps.” Liam smiles faintly. Liam: “Prime has installed in me a renewed faith in humanity. In displaying his weakness he has allowed himself to become humanised not the beast that I think many assume him to be. His love for Max is a redeeming quality that many lack, the respect for people other than themselves. He has also taught me something. Yes, even old dogs can learn new tricks.” He chuckles to himself. Liam: “He has taught me something that I thought I knew already, not to judge a book by its cover, the old adage which has been preached to young and old for decades and yet we can all still be guilty of doing it. Perhaps we assume that just because we are intelligent that our judgements are somehow more valid?” He raises an eyebrow, then adjusts himself in his chair. Liam: “Prime is, no doubt, a frightening wrestler to face in any circumstances. But at least I know that if I do come out of the match as the looser that I can respect the man who has defeated me. Nothing is more important to me than respecting my opponents – if they deserve it – and for Prime to earn my respect is something I thank him for. I hope, though, that Prime learns from the lesson that he has taught me and does not assume that just because I’m older, smaller, and weaker that I will be any easier to defeat. My victory last week against Graver, a man whom caused Prime so much difficulty, is a testament to that…as is my success against the much larger Nightmare.” Liam pauses. Liam: “I think that’s about enough for today.” With this short statement we fade to black. |
