Our scene opens in Nick Allen'd designated dressing room for this week. The room is spartan but comfortable, a large corner sofa dominating one side, a large flat screen plasma the other. Lay across one side of the sofa is Allen, staring intently at the screen, the two large speakers either side of it turned up to full. He is watching a DVD, entitled '50 Greatest Football Kick-Offs', a fact we can deduce by taking a sneaky look at the DVD case, which sits on the glass coffee table between Allen and the TV. Then, a voice... Could I take a secondment of your time for an interchat, please, Ma'am? Herman Cardgage has risen, spectre-like, from behind Nick's sofa. So engrossed with the DVD was he infact, that the voice behind him has caused him to leap violently from the sofa, crashing through the table in the process. Allen stands, brushing broken glass and splinters off himself, eager to find out who the hell has just, to be entirely honest, scared the shit out of him. When his gaze is met by Herman, he is somewhat confused, having never met him (nor anyone like him) before. He makes this point clear, in a way only Nick can: NA: Who the fuck are you? HC: Herman Cardgage, Interviewer Maextrodinaire, at your service. NA: ...Okay. Why are you here, again? HC: Well, word is that there's been a whispumour, a rumblement, if you will, that you're somewhat upset with your fellow competipadres here in FIW? NA: ...Let me get this straight. You've snuck into my room, made me smash my coffee table with my own arse and very nearly got your face violently removed from your head, just so you could talk in fucking backwards language about that promo I cut before? A pregnant silence rings out for a second while Herman considers Nick's last statement... HC: Yessir, that's correct. NA: Couldn't you have rang me? Even if you don't have my number you could've got Bain's from any public toilets I've visited in the last few months, I make sure I scrawl it into every cubicle wall I can. He keeps wondering why he keeps getting phonecalls from Mexican guys asking for Jumbo Jimmy. Heh, last week right... HC: If you could just answer the original questio-query... NA: What? Oh, that. I was just dicking about, wasn't I? Trying to get a rise out of all those guys who're too chicken, too 'busy' or just to stupid to actually say anything about their matchups this week. I was just trying to get a rise out of them all, wasn't I? Christ, I've never even met a few of the guys who compete in the FIW ring, nevermind got beef with. I don't really think that Ethan is currently lubing himself up and getting someone to run a bath for him, nor do I think that Majesty gets all his word from a dictionary. But christ, it's been like living in a ghost town this last 7 days. Normally you can't move for people doing pieces to camera, having stand-offs in the halls, smashing stuff up, or whatever they might feel expresses them best this week. I mean, I'm aware there's a little tension in the back, but can't we all remember why we're here in the first place? We're here because we want to be, we want to craft storylines, to entertain both ourselves and others, while constantly bettering yourself, through winning with your friends to learning from mistakes made while battling your foes. HC: You feel that morale might be a little low currently? NA: I never said that. All I know is that for the first time in my life I'm doing something I want to, and I'm currently having one hell of a run in this organization, and I want the best of the best to be there to challenge me, to fight me, to make me feel like I earned it. That's all. When I eventually win a championship in this place, I wanna feel like I made it mine, not that the other guy gave it to me. That's something that that musclebound idiot Prime's got, I suppose. When I stand on his chest for that three count, I'll know that I've proved myself, that I deserved to be the victor. Now, if you'll excuse me, you might have noticed I've got some tidying to do. Nick motions to the remains of the table. HC: Oh, of course. Not a problem. Herman finishes his sentence, then ducks back down behind the sofa. Allen waits incredulously for a second or two, then approaches the spot where Cardgage was standing. NA: No, out. Properly. Out the door. Herman stands, head hung low. He shuffles out the door, which is then slammed by Allen, who is now stood with his hands in his hips, surveying the mess. NA: Right then... Allen looks up, directly at the camera. NA: And you, sod off. Did you not learn anything from last week? Fade. |
