Backstage we find ourselves all alone with one half of the Tag Team Championships of the World. Well, technically, is she one half? It’s possible she’s tag team champion all on her own. But how does that work? Either way, Kennedy is alone in the cafeteria of whatever arena we’re at this week. No signs differentiate it from every other arena in the world so it gives us no new clues. She sits at a table in the center of the cafeteria, one foot propped up on the chair next to her and elbow propped up on the table, keeping her head upright as she stares at the tag team championship belt slung over the chair her foot is on.

Toby: Lot on your mind?

Kennedy jolts at the question, glancing over to find the table no longer empty. Where the hell did Toby come from? That’s likely that question Kennedy would ask if she wasn’t too busy looking around the cafeteria. Perhaps she had zoned out and it’s not filled with people. But nope, just Toby popping up out of nowhere and now sitting across from her.

Toby: I’m sorry about Prime.

Toby actually shows his best sympathetic look possible, gesturing towards the Tag Team Championship belt that has no matching pair at the moment. Much like Kennedy when it comes to being a Tag Team Champion. Kennedy does her best to shrug off it, attempting to hide her feeling of disappointment. But is she disappointed about Prime turning on her, or the fact that she is simply a lone wolf in the tag team division now?

Kennedy: Yeah, I’m sorry about him too. Sorry I ever trusted him.

Me-ow. With that catty response, Kennedy turns her eyes away from Toby. She’s no longer looking at that gold hanging over the chair, but she’s not looking towards Toby either. Can’t let those emotions show.

Toby: At least you’ve still got people that you can trust. Ethan--

Kennedy: No, Toby.

Cutting him off in near mid-name, Kennedy turns her attention back to Toby, holding a hand out to him as if it’s needed to completely stop him from talking. I thought only Rebecca couldn’t talk about Ethan. Seems Toby can’t either.

Kennedy: I’m done trusting people. Okay? I trusted Wiggum and look where that got me. I trusted Swytch and he left me. I should’ve known better than to trust Prime.

Toby: So, you’re saying that you don’t trust Ethan? Even after he came down to help you last week? After everything he’s…

Toby trails off on his own when he sees the look on Kennedy’s face. She’s not actually pissed. Her eyes are averted down to the table top and she’s slowly shaking her head as if she’s fighting with herself on the topic.

Kennedy: Ethan hasn’t given me a reason to not trust him. I want to make that perfectly clear. Ethan… he’s been…

Kennedy struggles for a moment to organize her thoughts on Ethan Adams but it seems even she isn’t sure what she wants to say on the man.

Kennedy: I just can’t afford to trust anyone right now. Not after what happened with Prime.

Toby: But what are you going to do this week? You’ve got a fatal four-way against three other guys that will have a tag team partner in their corner. Finn McConnaigh has his brother Owen, Gatito Negro has Oro, and Nick Allen could have Jay Bain or maybe Xtreme Kitten. Who knows what’s going on with that team? I certainly can’t keep up.

No longer struggle to explain her feelings on Ethan Adams, she looks deep in thought over what Toby has to offer. Or maybe she’s still deep in thought on her feelings for Ethan. Who knows?

Kennedy: Must be nice to have a brother. What are the odds he’ll turn on you?

Toby glances around nervously, wondering how to approach such a question. He could certainly think of many brothers that have turned on each other.

Kennedy: But you’re right. Everyone in this match has someone in their corner. And other than Nick, assuming Xtreme Kitten is back with him by then, they all can trust their partner. I don’t have that whether I want it or not.

Toby: That’s not true. Ethan said--

Once again Kennedy stops Toby’s words right where they are.

Kennedy: Ethan has more important things to worry about this week than having my back in a fatal four-way. Okay? And besides, I just can’t trust anyone right now. I can’t afford it.

Toby: Is this about this past week when him and Liam got into it and cost you the match? Because you said yourself that--

And yet again Kennedy has to cut Toby off right there.

Kennedy: Yeah, it was an accident. I don’t blame anyone for that. It’s just, if Ethan is going to invest his trust in me, then he deserves to get it back from me. And I can’t do that right now.

Toby: But Kennedy--

Wow. She really isn’t letting him say anything, is she?

Kennedy: Look, Toby. I don’t want to talk about it anymore. Okay? I’ve got a match this week that I’m prepared for. I can’t take my mind off that. I don’t care if Finn has his brother at ringside. I don’t care if Negro has an entire masquerade at ringside. And I don’t care if Nick Allen reunites with Jay Bain, Xtreme Kitten, Lucy or anyone else in the locker room. I’m going to do this on my own and prove why I’m still in possession of my championship. I don’t want anyone and I don’t need anyone. And I’m gonna prove that this week.

Toby sits in silence at Kennedy’s outburst, quietly questioning another attempt at getting through to Kennedy but realizes it will only be wasted breath. Eventually he nods and gets up from his seat, leaving as quietly as he entered.

Once again, left all alone just the way she seems to want it, Kennedy returns her attention to her championships gold. Her eyes burn into the gold plate, a symbol of partnership and nothing even resembling that in her life right now.
