The scene brings us to a very plain, yet sophisticated sit-down interview area. Two chairs are all that take up the area, both filled with the Voice of FIW Jonathan Hitchen on the right and FIW’s Leading Lady Kennedy on the left. Hitchen: Kennedy, it’s now known that Nensai Senjou will be your last match with the company before retiring. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Kennedy step away from FIW, do you think this will be the final time we see you wrestle? Kennedy: Absolutely not. As I’ve said, that fire is just all but burnt out here. I crave that one victory over Kiyoshi Nakahata and whether I get it or not, finally getting to wrestle him one-on-one, where I know things will come down to the better person winning, that’s all I need. Hitchen: So you’re saying we will definitely see you wrestle again? Kennedy puts some obvious thought behind the next question, actually stopping herself from an abrupt response. After a moment of deliberation, she gives the best answer she can possibly form. Kennedy: I’m not making any promises because Lord knows something could happen tonight that prevents me from ever stepping into a ring again. However, if I have my way, you will definitely see me wrestle again. Hitchen: That’s good to hear. I’ve been a fan of yours for many, many years Kennedy, even through times when you’ve performed questionable actions. Do you mind telling everyone what impacted this decision to walk away from it. Kennedy: It’s as simple as I said, really. I want that one last, final victory over one last, final opponent. To me, it’s not fair to everyone else if I stick around taking up a place when it’s not really there for me anymore. I’ve beaten everyone I’ve wanted to, I’ve wrestled everyone I’ve wanted to. It’s just the end of this chapter for me. She shrugs the simplicity of her reasons, along with the simple answer. Hitchen: Fair enough. Everyone wants to know, why Kiyoshi Nakahata? What is about him that makes you want to wrestle him? It’s no doubt he’s one of the greats to pass through Full Intensity Wrestling, but why do you crave victory over him? Kennedy: I know I can beat him. Blunt and to the point. Quite possibly too blunt and to the point, as Kennedy is quick to throw more onto that. Kennedy: I don’t mean to be so blunt, and I certainly don’t mean to sound like this is going to be an easy victory or anything of the sort. Kiyoshi is a competitor. That’s not his gimmick, that’s not who he portrays in that ring. It’s who he is. That’s who I’ve always been. I’ve never pretended to be anything other to garner attention. Yet, I still was never given a chance to go one-on-one with Kiyoshi. We had the Double Jeopardy match, sure, but that wasn’t one-on-one. Even though it came down to us in the finals, we never got the opportunity to go bell to bell, just the two of us. That’s what I want, and I feel that I can beat him, something I’ve yet to do. Hitchen: You said that if you lose to Kiyoshi, you’re still going to retire, correct? Kennedy: Absolutely. In fact, if I lose to Kiyoshi there’s no doubt that I’m leaving here. If I can’t beat him, what does that say about me? It says that I don’t belong here. Kennedy gives another shrug, this one more to make it clear she sees no other way of looking at the situation. Hitchen: If you can beat him, you’ll consider staying? Is that what you’re saying? Once again, Kennedy finds herself wanting to promptly answer the question, but something in her mind prevents that from happening. Kennedy: I… that’s a tough call to make right now. As confident as I am that I can beat Kiyoshi, it’s still a tall task ahead of me and defeat is lingering in the back of the mind. I know it’s there, I know it’s a possibility. I would be ecstatic if I were to actually prove I can beat Kiyoshi. Could it carry me longer in this company and perhaps drive me towards wanting another Dual Crown reign? Sure, it’s very possible. I just know that if this match, my last match, is my final loss then that’s what it’ll be without question. Hitchen: Well, thank you, Kennedy. Good luck this Sunday at Nensai Senjou. Kennedy: Thank you, Jonathan. For everything. Kennedy reaches over and shakes the hand of her long time supporter with both hands grasping his. Perhaps her farewell to the Voice of FIW? |
