And so we find ourselves a week behind: Kiyoshi Nakahata, in full tourist mode - that is to say hoodie, jeans and high-powered camera - on the battlements of Edinbrugh Castle. Behind [and beneath] him, the old quarter of the city sprawls out, all cobbled streets and urchins on corners offering a shoe-shine.* Truth be told, Edinbrugh's a damn sight more interesting than Aberdeen, which is a rather dreary place; and as his camera might suggest, when he's not hitting the gym, Kiyoshi is pretty much a professional tourist. Thus, Edinbrugh it is. Not, I suppose that it matters too much where he is, on that it's him, wanting to waste a little bit of our time talking.

Kiyoshi: Well, now this is an odd one: Edmond Winchester Graves. He and I go back a long, long way; back to the very first edition of ReVolt. A Four Way Bare-knuckle Boxing match for the Fighting Spirit Championship; and I suspect that in the spirit of teamwork and brotherhood, that is all I will say on the matter.

For those wondering, Kiyoshi didn't actually win the FSC for a little while after that. Graver was the champion going in to the match though. Still, Kiyoshi smiles at the memory.

Kiyoshi: Then, after that, a little after Summer of Sin the next year, we won a strange elimination tag match where we shared $100,000. I have no idea what he did with his share, but I must confess what I spent it on was rather mundane; and from there, not a whole lot until September, and Blessed and Forsaken.

Another smile, this one a little fainter.

Kiyoshi: I am still not entirely sure what to make of the times that followed. Together we embarked upon a crusade to change the world, and I am fortunate enough to say that I reached the pinnacle of our sport. Unfortunately, I do not think that we as the Rejects quite achieved what we set out to do, and somehow - to me, at least - it seems that our message got lost.

After a wistful smile, he shoots a glance to the camera operator, and then back to the lens, where he ought to be talking to.

Kiyoshi: Still, I am not here to bore you with an old man's reminiscence. After all, I am but twenty six. And anyway, my point in all of this is that it will be... Interesting, I suppose the word is, to be fighting alongside Graver again. Unfortunately, 'old man' does rather sum up how this trip down memory lane has made me feel, especially hearing Ms. Midas talk about me. Well, not so much talk, but I remember a few years ago, while myself and Jun were still in Japan, using a similar tone myself. I think part of it was realising that we were at a level where some of the people we held in pretty high esteem were fighting us. Maybe not quite believing that we had made it so far.

It's as if, he feels like he sounds as if he's condescending a little, and he holds his hand up for a moment, and waves it slightly as he tries to accurately get across what he wants to say.

Kiyoshi: Not, I hope you understand, that I would presume that that is what she meant. Only that it seems strange hearing my own name in that kind of context. It makes me feel... Well, old.

He holds his hands up, instead of reiterating his earlier point about his age.

Kiyoshi: I am, of course, looking at the entire situation completely wrongly. As, I suspect, is Mrs. Galanoochie. The suggestion that either one of us is any kind of hold-over from a bygone age is absurd. Times change, and we all must adapt. For example, there was a time when I found fighting women was... Hmm... Unchivalrous... Is that even a word?

He doesn't know. No ideas from behind the camera either. The Yeti shrugs it off, and continues as if it isn't just something he made up. It might not be.

Kiyoshi: Now, it is just another fact of life. I still find it a little strange lashing out with any kind of anger, but then I have yet to meet a lady who has provoked the level of ire from me that certain men have. That is just how I am, I suppose.

With one more sigh, he straightens up some, and tries to get his "game-face" on.

Kiyoshi: Alas, I feel I must. Perhaps not with anger, but with some feeling. All this talk of empathy, and understanding is all well and good. However, just standing here, I feel somehow softer than I was, and thinking like this does not help. Physically, I am in the best shape of my life; although I am fully aware that they all say that. Still, I fear I lack a certain competitive edge. Not completely, but as the millimetres shrink to nanometres, and into individual atoms: the very tip. That is what I lack.

A slight note of disgust with himself slips in here, and he pauses for breath.

Kiyoshi: Inevitable, I suppose. I remember the feeling, but not how to make myself feel it. A certain single-minded detatchment from the rest of the world. For a moment, I had it, before I fought Kennedy, now that moment has passed. Fortunately, I can see it before me, Macey Midas.

Does that mean he sees it in her? What is he even talking about? It's entirely possible that even he doesn't know.

Kiyoshi: Now, I really am wittering. Perhaps we shall see on Sunday, and I hope, Ms. Midas, and I am not a disappointment...

And on that vague glimmer of steel, we fade.

[size0]* This second part is a lie.
