“Lee Mason... FIW Dual Crown Champion.”

The scene lingers in darkness for just a moment before our eyes are presented with the sight of Lee Mason, shirtless with his hands gloved, shorts and pads on his shins.

LM: “I could get used to hearing that.”

Mason smirks jokingly. As the camera pans out slightly we see he’s not actually talking to himself, or indeed the camera or viewing audience whoever that me. He’s simply sharing some mid-sparring banter with his training partner. He’s a big guy, about 6’5” and built like a brick shit house with a shaven head and thick stubble. Let’s call him Steve.

Steve: “I’m sure you could. Maybe if you spent a little less time fantasising and a little more time practicing you’d have a fighting chance of winning your match. Not that it’s even a title match, by the way.”

Mason’s smile is replaced with a furrowed brow and a roll of the eyes.

LM: “I know that mate, but I’ve got a two out of three chance of my match against Cruz being for the Dual Crown or the Fighting Spirit Championship – those are pretty good odds.”

Steve: “Very true – Christian Cruz is a tough cookie though bud with an ego to boot.”

LM: “I figure that’s going to be one of his biggest weaknesses – I doubt very much he’s going to take me as seriously as he should and I’m sure as hell making sure that I’m as prepared as I can be, just in case the cookie crumbles in my favour and I’m walking into a title match this week.”

Steve: “Sure. Let’s get on with it then.”

With that Steve positions himself behind a black Lonsdale heavy bag, holding it in place as Mason positions himself in front of it. He stiffly exhales, pounding his gloves together before leaning in and pounding the heavy bag with a stiff right, left, right combo.

Steve: “Good, keep it going man – it’s going to take more than that to knock Cruz out!

Mason nods with determination, pushing the bag back slightly and lays into it with a couple more hard right and left combinations. A stiff right hook and then a jumping knee which knocks the big man holding the bag back a couple of steps.

Steve: “That’s what I’m talking about brother! Cruz will look like he has a glass jaw if you land that bad boy! Let’s take a break; we’ve been here for hours.”

Mason nods, walking away from the bag as he loosens and removes his gloves dropping them into his gym bag before pulling out a towel to wipe his brow.

LM: “Cruz is going to be a hell of a challenge, I know that for sure. But I feel ready man, y’know? This is my chance to prove I can rock it with the biggest in the company – I’m pumped for this!”

Steve: “Just don’t forget who you’re facing, remember what we went over – Cruz will be looking to hurt you. You know the gameplan, solid as a rock. Use your cardio and your speed to go the distance. As soon as he lets his guard down, which his ego dictates he will... BAM! Lights out!”

The two men smile and share a high five. Mason drops the towel in his bag and pulls on a t-shirt. The scene fades out as Mason slings his bag over his shoulder and the two men head for the exit.
