Spiral Out, Keep Going

The scene opens up, but to a black screen. A dull, lifeless black screen that only has any interest or warmth to it because of the harsh white noise that is heard. It crackles for several seconds before it calms slightly and the voice of that Russian despot we all love and despise arrives, slightly altered digitially to have a more mechanical sound to it. Krychek: What a tangled web that is being woven. I announced my intent to cash in my Grand Prix Championship two months ago. Ordinarily this would give extraordinary build to the Championship match, something any management would salivate over. But there is a problem. Neither Monsieur Cruz or myself have made any moves towards each other. An unspoken non-aggression understanding between us. Out of mutual respect...or has it been strategy... An imperfect prisoner's dilemma. We would both benefit moderately from leaving the other alone and not striking... But we would benefit more by casting the first stone... If we wait and not strike we are leaving trust in the other not to cast the first stone, and if we are wrong in the trust we are left on the defense in this game of chess. Rest assured neither Cruz nor myself are trusted or trust worthy, and yet we have played it very much towards the moderate benefits. And now this carefully cultivated strategy on both our parts is potentially in disarray. Monsieur Cruz was found...at the very least down, potentially even unconscious after ReVolt. Details are currently sparse at this second. Now, perhaps warranted, the finger points to me. What is there to say with such a subject... I deny it, obviously. I wasn't in the arena...to your knowledge. Can I prove I wasn't there? Of course not. I was back home, and I live by myself. But even if I could... I could honestly deny I wasn't in the arena and didn't attack him and still be responsible given my l33t cohorts and their willingness to aide me... So truth be told I didn't do it, and neither did they... But the question is whether you can trust me to tell the truth. Most don't. Most are idiots... At the end of the day the ball is in Cruz's court. It was always going to be. It's up to him whether he believes me, whether he doesn't, whether it doesn't matter in what his actions are. The white noise picks up in volume and harsh sounds for a moment before being calmed once more by a highly bored sigh that comes from the Grand Prix Champion of 2010. Krychek: Now then this week I am facing the co-captains of the opposing team of the Cibernetico at Violence Fetish. Truth be told my mind hasn't been concerned with the Cibernetico. After all that would be the horizon, and it would be neglectful and hypocritical of me to stare into the future lest the ground before me erode as per the quasi-credence of the l33t. My mind has been occupied with existential considerations and my future as a whole, not limited to this unimportant career. Too many balls are being thrown into the air and the Cibernetico is simply one I have allowed to crash to earth. But this week you have my attention. If I wish to be victorious this week I must not only be fully aware of you and your mindsets but I must be weary of my own quote unquote brother. The enigmatic attack on him after ReVolt may only exacerbate his existing tendency to turn on partners. I don't fool myself for a second in thinking that our Brotherhood connection, the fact that I brought him into FIW, or that we are tag team partners this week will stop him from striking me should he grow too complacent on the apron. To focus on the opposition, Seigi Sentai. World Tag Team Champions of FIW. Undefeated in the tag team ranks, and indeed Phantom Skull is entirely undefeated. Super Kamen Ranger was the winner of this year's Drake Love Invitational. Certainly the pair are no slouches and stand to have a profitable career in FIW, though you'll excuse me if I don't bow down and sing praises, and instead reserve judgment on their abilities until I have sufficient data unlike most of the populace. A brief pause wherein the white noise once more lashes out before being subdued. Krychek: After all it isn't unheard of for people to debut in a promotion and go undefeated and obtain a Championship initially. I myself was not pinned or made to submit until five months into my FIW career, capturing the Cruiserweight Championship in that time as well. The real data with which one should draw inferences from comes when losses have been dealt. Do they continue to win frequently? Or does the mystique disappear? Though our pertinent questions are the following... Are Seigi Sentai really as good as they seem? Surely they aren't immune as a team to loss. Is it perhaps that they have an x-factor that people have yet to figure out? And what will happen once that x-factor is found, a loss doled out and the secrets to their demise tossed loftily into the air like confetti, slowly drifting on the currents for anyone to reach out and snare? Krychek: Will they be able to adapt? Or are they one hit wonders? Our Russian host goes silent in order to let the questions asked linger and take hold before he continues. Krychek: I would personally bet that the psychological aspect will continue to grow and weigh on them until it is too much for them to handle. It is why, while I am proud of my win-loss ratio, I wouldn't want to be entirely undefeated. Even a Machiavellian genius as myself can feel psychological pressure. The Phantom Skull, whom I will hereby refer to as Bob as I simply refuse to call an adult in a ridiculous costume by an equally ridiculous name, will be the key to keeping them undefeated as long as they can be. While I feel he would be more consciously aware of the psychological pressure I also feel that should Super Kamen Ranger, hereby referred to as Leslie for the same reasons given before, become aware of it his less fortified mental capacity would succumb to the pressure. Thus Bob is the key to staving off the inevitable loss for himself and Leslie. His battle should be in keeping his young partner well prepared for the ring, but ignorant of the facts pertaining to psychological aspects. After all I highly doubt Leslie is the sort to sit and think psychological aspects over. But of course this is all moot as I just said it for all the world to hear so unless Bob somehow prevents Leslie from accessing the internet or coming into contact with other people that have seen it, such as interviewers, this will reach Leslie. And Leslie is far too much of a child in spirit to not let something like this seep into his head at some point. Maybe not this week. Maybe not next week... But sometime it will hit him. Undefeated tag team. Tag Team Champions. All eyes are waiting and watching and expecting the same result over and over again. The pressure will weight on the conscious of his mind like it does on the mind of any other man, woman or child. He is not immune. He is not above mortal men. Soon the pressures on the mind will spill out the ears and onto the shoulders, the weight of the world pushing down and wearing him down... And should he maintain, barely or otherwise, this undefeated nature... The crowd will turn on him. After all when you know the result of a match, who cares what the outcome is? And these "fans" this industry has are so very fickle. They want entertainment and to be amused, they don't want superheroes and Gods. They want people hurting... Physically, mentally...emotionally. In time they'll boo, they'll cheer for the most vile of opponents. They'll beg for someone to end the boring nature that is his undefeated tag team nature... And then a whole new pressure will get to him. The babyface, the young lion, the ne'er do wrong is suddenly bearing the brunt of the crowd's hatred for their being bored. Where once he was cheered and hoisted on shoulders he'll instead be greeted with the harsh sounds jeering when he steps out from the curtains. For doing nothing wrong. For being himself. In time he'll lose. And when he does I'll enjoy it. Because I enjoy it when people turn on their heroes. So many false idols in the world--sports stars and generic pop singing banalities. True heroes are left unsung because they don't provide simplistic thrills. On that happy note I shall bid the viewing audience adieu. Although we can't see him I'd like to imagine Krychek took a bow. The harsh white noises rises up like an angry mob revolting against it's oppressors. It continues for a few seconds before we're greeted with equally harsh beeps.
