There isn't any camera here, comprende? Not that it would make much difference. It's not like this is some highly regulated Rurik Krychek thing where he's super secretive and therefore I'd have big problems with people knowing things. No, we're with William Reign as he lounges in his hummer-limo. Why a hummer-limo? Because he's compensating. Well probably, I mean I haven't personally checked or imagined. His tweed jacket is on a nearby seat, his secretary is at the far end by the driver, going over papers. Despite it being early in the day, Reign has a glass of alcohol in his hand. It's five o'clock somewhere, as the alcoholics looking for some sort of reasoning for their self-destructive tendencies say. It hasn't been an easy several months for Reign. He finally clawed his way back into the wrestling world after a fall from grace. And not just into managing some small regional fed. Nope, he's on top with one of the biggest promotions in the world. He was an ambulance chaser, essentially. An opportunist. He grabbed a hold of FIW's reins during some turmoil following Krychek's sudden ousting. Deadlock and Summer Of Sin were quite the high points. Maybe it was egotistical, and maybe because he hadn't seen previous pay-per-views, but he was willing to put those up against any other pay-per-view FIW had ever put on. But then Blessed & Forsaken came. It wasn't that Blessed & Forsaken's period of shows was bad, but Summer of Sin had burnt people out. It was a high point. FIW had been building in excitement and storylines for a year and Summer of Sin was the big pay off. Everything else that immediately followed almost had to pale in comparison. But that's wrestling. There's ups and downs, ebbs and flows, Reign swayed slightly in his seat as the vehicle turned in the streets. Faintly he could hear some sort of chanting. Nothing unusual since they were heading to the arena here in... Crap where are we this week? It's in Ireland. Reign knew that much, but the problem with an international company is there are so many cities to visit and many of them aren't world renown. The crowd was just that eager to see their stars. El Cuervo Blanco, Seigi Sentai. Sometimes the crowd was mistaken as to what federation was there. There was once a John Cena chant going on. The crowd was politely Reign cleared his throat as he continued this monologue so we can arrive at an end. The network was breathing down his neck for better results. Why? The crowd was still behind FIW. They hadn't lost any measurable amount of the audience. They were as strong as ever. FIW may not have been the highest rated show on television, but wrestling is notorious for having a niche audience. But the network didn't see that. The network wanted more, and it was taking its toll on Reign. He was constantly thinking of new gimmicks to draw in more people. His random championship defenses idea went miserably. It was one of those ideas that looked good on paper, but in practice was fated to fail. If he had more time to consider it, he might have seen the error of the idea. But no... No there was too much pressure. Reign didn't thrive under pressure. He was better off when no one was watching his every move and expecting better things. Complacency. Reign needed complacency. ...that's probably a bad thing for a CEO to need, but it's the truth. He had a good few weeks to begin with, but it tapered off. Grand ideas in wrestling are better left spread out. If you try to out do yourself every week you're bound to burn out. The round robin was his saving grace at the moment. A tournament to satiate the masses while he tried to figure out more things. His time was about to run out, though. Less than three weeks before the tournament ran out. Other ideas were screwed up because of the people. Like Krychek. Fucking Krychek. Always been an annoying man to deal with. All Reign needed him to do was to rally the bad guys for the Cibernetico and the pay-per-view's big match was hyped. But no, Krychek dropped the ball. Not even just dropped it, but deliberately let it go. Wasn't that guy supposed to be some cult leader? He was always able to rally people behind him. Hell he lead the team last year, and to victory. Either way Reign didn't feel much guilt for screwing Krychek out of his Championship shot. The crowd in some of those countries might have been behind him, but the rest of the world was still sane. No one wanted to see Krychek and Cruz knocking The chanting continued getting louder as the hummer-limo drew in closer to the arena. Maybe it wasn't even a wrestling crowd. It was Ireland after all. Might be a soccer riot. Or the 9 PM drinking round. Now then... Who to give the Championship shot to... It's just a few days before the card needs to be released. Drake Love? He's been on a roll recently. Neo Carner? He's been unpredictable recently... Pyotr Sadovsky? No, he just lost at the last pay-per-view didn't he... Maybe Rick Nuller could be talked into a one off match despite his injury... As the hummer-limo pulled into the parking lot Reign peeked out the windows. The Ireland crowd was blocking the way, being as loud as possible. Nothing new for the Irish. Holding up signs too. Reign took a closer look, and tuned in to their chanting. Who did Ireland get behind in FIW? "We want Krychek." Uh-oh. These backwater rubes are mispronouncing Love. You want Love, people. Bald head, wrestling tights. Eloquent without being a complete ass? LOVE. "We want Krychek." Idiots. Krychek is the guy you people hate, remember? Always calling you idiots and such. Well Americans, but we all kind of assume he means everyone. Reign smirked to himself. People are so stupid. "We want Krychek." The signs even had Russian characters on them, as though they went through the trouble of doing research. Man they're really confused about who Drake Love is. Or maybe thems are English characters and they're just that drunk. Not out of the question... The limo finally parked and Reign stepped out. He'd set 'em straight. Teach them how to pronounce Drake Love and how to spell it properly. "D-R-A-C-K L-O-V-E." It wasn't that difficult. The second he stepped out, however, trash was tossed at his head and the crowd boo'd heavily. Shit, did they mistake him for Krychek? Damn these drunkards. The chants changed. "You screwed Krychek." Reign didn't remember screwing Love... What the hell was the matter with these people... Alcoholism is a disease, not a way of life to be defended. Wait a minute... Something's clicking... No... Ah crap no... It can't be... ... Reign left his oven on back in Vegas. ...also he finally realized the Ireland crowd seems to want and perhaps even likes Rurik Krychek. |
