It’s time for a special sit-down interview with Clay ‘Chainsaw’ Krueger, except that he is nowhere to be seen. Jonathan Hitchen is ready and interestingly this is the same set they use for the ‘Oracle Weekly’ interviews, which is surely a little attempt to annoy the General Manager. As Hitchen is checking his watch, the door opens and Clay Krueger breezes in.

Hitchen: “Thank you for attending, Clay, even if you are a tad late.”

Clay: “Nice to be invited.”

He takes his seat opposite the long-time FIW play-by-play man. Of course, Clay isn’t at all late. He’s been waiting out in the corridor for the perfect time to enter, that’s the measure of the man. He dictates when he arrives, nobody else does.

Hitchen: “We’ll begin by offering congratulations for now becoming a record breaking and of course record holding six-time FIW World Tag Team Champion.”

Clay: “And I think it’s about time my achievement is recognised. It doesn’t seem like the FIW social media machine has even noticed, it’s hardly been mentioned let alone highlighted.”

Hitchen: “I’m sure we can do something about that. What is perhaps even more impressive than the record itself is that you have done it alongside not only five different partners but all of them have been of such high calibre. Keith Williams, Christian Cruz, Rurik Krychek, Darian Gray and now Caleb Claudel.”

All multiple time Champions in FIW in their own right. Clay doesn’t partner up with no jabronis, this is the highest level of tag team competition in the world. Three former Dual Crown Champions, a three-time FIW World Tag Team Champion and Krychek held a belt or two in his time.

Hitchen: “Do you have a favourite partner to recall?”

Clay: “I don’t really have a favourite, I’ve always been the favourite of my tag partners. I’ve only teamed once with Caleb Claudel but I like the cut of his jib, I like his wrestling style and I like his attitude. I’m anticipating a very long reign as Tag Team Champion this time.”

Hitchen: “Your back-and-forth exchange of views with both Gustav David Richlen and Shaelin Marie Richlen was a particular highlight for FIW fans. Normally you like to do your own thing but you often do relish the opportunity go toe-to-toe with certain members of the roster.”

Clay: “Gustav is one of them. You know you’re going to get a reaction, you know there will be elements of his response that you can then react to and create some buzz. I think I’m much the same in that regard and other members of the FIW roster embrace that.”

Hitchen: “Already in response to your victory on ReVolt, Gustav has had plenty to say. Do you have a response?”

Clay: “It’s predictable. Richlen will never let sleeping dogs lie and that’s often a poor decision on his part because he just comes off as bitter. Apparently we or I failed, I don’t remember which. Failed to win the titles? No, I don’t think I did. That was my objective and I succeeded at that alongside Mr. Claudel. I am now a six-time FIW World Tag Team Champion, does he think that I won’t realise that teams will come after the belts? Come on, Gus, try harder. Fact is, you can take losses however you like. You can learn from them and take the high road or spew bile and take the low road. I don’t think it’s a shock to anybody to see Richlen or his wife take the low road.”

At this point Clay unbuttons his waistcoat to reveal his FIW World Tag Team Championship belt underneath. Oh, he’s dressed in shirt, tie, waistcoat and matching trousers. Forgot to mention that.

Clay: “Gustav is very much like his partner this coming week Keith Williams, so it’s only apt that they team together. Never took responsibility, always looked to blame everybody else.”

Hitchen: “Gustav will not only compete in your trios match this coming Tuesday night but heads into the FIW Fighting Spirit Championship Anarchy Rules Invitational. You have not scheduled yourself for that match. Why is that?”

Clay: “I have no ambition to prove myself in a match where serious injury is not only anticipated but expected. I’ve been there, done that. I’ve competed in hardcore matches and Steel Chairs Are Legal, my toughness has never been in doubt. I note that there are enough Coulter Crew members in that match, I have full confidence in them to assist Mr. Eversol.”

What is actually interesting is that neither Nathaniel Alexander, Darian Gray or Clay himself are in that match. The three ‘senior’ Coulter Crew members alongside the Golden Shotgun. Caleb Claudel is new to the stable and Rob Garcia is earning his stripes, what you’d consider the ‘junior’ members. Those are the only to step forward to help Eversol retain the Fighting Spirit Championship. Perhaps Kim Coulter needs to intervene? There is, of course, still time for Clay, Nathaniel and Darian to indicate their involvement.

Hitchen: “Even if you aren’t to compete for the Fighting Spirit Championship, one man who will be in there is Zombie Black. He actually credited you with his return, alongside several others. Your reaction?”

Clay: “I’ve never been one to back down from competition. If he’s here, and he is, then I want to test myself. I want to come out on top against him.”

Hitchen: “Just a question out of left-field, it was briefly mentioned in this very room earlier last week and hinted that you are even doing some work for Orion Oldriod in terms of scouting?”

Clay: “This is where people don’t quite understand our relationship. We do have a professional rivalry, yes, but I have a loyalty to the Coulter Crew. I also have an overall loyalty to the company that I perform for and the business that I have a passion for. I don’t believe FIW made me a star, I think I made myself a star on the FIW platform. I’ve talked about adapting and flexibility before. I will do some scouting but in many ways I always have and there are plenty that would vouch for that.”

Hitchen: “One of the interesting elements to FIW at the moment is Rob Garcia, the man who hopes to become the FIW Rising… Fighting… World… something Champion of the World. He’s effectively on probation with the Crew. What are your thoughts about this young man?”

Clay: “I think he is very enthusiastic, he has a tremendous potential. I would say at the moment he needs to understand and know his place, reign in some of his antics but that’s just my opinion. When you’re a prominent member of the Coulter Crew, there’s an expectation as to how to act, how to hold yourself and your standing in this community. I don’t think he’s there yet and I’ve not been shy about ensuring that Kim Coulter knows my thoughts.”

This seems to be winding down, especially as we’re away from current match topics onto wider issues affecting Clay in FIW.

Hitchen: “Last week you outright challenged Gustav David Richlen to go to the FIW Champion and ask him his opinion on you. Rather interestingly, I have done exactly that if you have time to hear Johnny Amazing’s thoughts.”

Clay: “I’d have been happy for Richlen to do exactly that, but he didn’t… perhaps we was more worried about the reaction from the FIW Champion than I am.”

Hitchen: “Johnny Amazing stated that he thinks you’re a snake in the grass. You’re kind of like the most dangerous aspects of Nathaniel, Eversol, and Darian. Driven like Nathaniel, opportunistic like Eversol, but level-headed like Darian. Arguably, he considers you to be the most dangerous member of the Crew.”

Clay: “I don’t think I need to say anything to that. If you’re clever and you know a bit about this industry, you know what to look for, you know Johnny’s right. A match with Clay Krueger might not be the most exciting one you’ve ever seen or been a part of, Eversol and Nathaniel might be more impactful inside the ring but you like psychology and needing to raise your technical game, come see the only six-time FIW World Tag Team Champion in history.”

We fade out on the belt now securely fastened around the waist of the veteran competitor.
