The piece takes place in Orion Oldriod's office, where shockingly Orion is. Having just polished off his recording of the 'Oracle Weeky', Orion is in something of a positive mood. Suddenly there's a knock at the door. Orion: "Enter." The door opens and in steps Joe Stanton, dressed casual today aside from the FIW Fighting Spirit Championship that's sitting on his shoulder. Glancing around, Joe acts as though he's been called in to the principal's office or something with how carefully he treads. He makes it over to Orion's desk and he nods to his boss. "I know you're a busy man, so sorry to interrupt you. I know this week's got to be a stressful one for you. I won't take much of your time. I just needed to say something." Orion: "Good to see you too, Joe. As much as I attempt to remain impartial, I can't deny that I'm pleased to see you as Fighting Spirit Champion. What's on your mind?" The little endorsement, while maybe just being polite, still makes Joe smile and relax a little. Remembering he came here with a purpose, he clears his throat. "Well, thanks for the opportunity. I know it wasn't just mine to take, but I appreciate it nevertheless. Like, all the opportunities you've given me so far." His right hand pats the title belt on his shoulder when he mentions opportunities. "I really just wanted to establish the tone for moving forward. I'm not a shy man, nor am I a man that's satisfied with sitting on his laurels. What I'm trying to say is, I want to represent this company and this championship correctly. To paraphrase Ken Watanabe...." Getting in character. Joe's features take a more stern turn. "Let me fight." Doing his best Watanabe impression, which isn't very good, he says the words. "Anybody, if you think someone deserves a title shot at this belt, book it. If you feel two people deserve a title shot at this belt, book it. If you want to throw the entire god damn roster at me, do it! Friend, foe, Zombie, Gus, Dream, Erik, Freakshow, Keith, Nathaniel, Kira, whoever!" Getting passionate about what he's saying, Joe's voice rises without him even realizing it. Waving a hand, he uses that hand to run down the list of names he mentions. He throws up his hands to emphasize he'll take on whoever Orion wants him to. "Hell, you could walk up to me and say you feel Dragon's been really busting his butt and deserves a crack at it!" Pointing presumably towards the locker room area, he earnestly and with a straight face even suggests Dragon to the GM. "Joe Stanton versus the World." The Scarlet Speedster says in a more light hearted tone, trying to lighten the mood after getting so serious. Orion: "Sounds good to me, Joe. The Fighting Spirit Championship should be about exactly that, fighting spirit. For too long we’ve been gripped by a Champion that uses his friends to shield him or jump in to protect the title. You struck a solid blow in the war against the Coulter Crew and I won’t forget that." His mind turns to Anarchy in the UK and Anarchy Draft Night, which is fast approaching. Orion: "I don’t know yet what will happen with Kim Coulter, whether she’s considering sending somebody after your title at Anarchy in the UK. I don’t know her priorities. But I do know that you are high on my agenda, so hopefully a few early wins for my picks will make that happen." Still distracted by thoughts of the Draft Night, he then realises he hasn’t said anything for a few moments. Orion: "Sorry, Joe, was there anything else?" Joe drifts a little in thought too, pondering what his boss said. He certainly knows he hasn't made friends with most of the Crew. Orion speaking again jerks the champ out of his thinking. "Right, naw, I should let you get back to it." He gestures to the desk like it's alien to him. Even looking a little intimidated by it! "Besides, I got a celebration to get to. Thanks for your time." The champion gives the GM the double finger guns & a wink to show his gratitude and he scoots to the door, stopping when he's got his hand on the door. Patting his hand against the door a few times, he looks back at Orion with a smile. "Not trying to tell you how to do your job or anything, but maybe remember some of those names if you get to pick my match. I really do think a lot of them deserve it." With that, Joe dips out. |
