Say hello to Clay ‘Chainsaw’ Krueger, one half of course of the FIW World Tag Team Champions. He has come to the Manchester Arena a little early to conduct this little piece of business. In fact, the set is hardly even finished. There’s the usual black taxi cab and red phone box as part of the set but FIW workers are busy completing it.

Clay: “A couple of days ago Full Intensity Wrestling sent out a tweet. I say ‘Full Intensity Wrestling’ when you and I both know that the maniacal egotist of a General Manager that runs the day-to-day operations of this company was behind it. He’s trying to embarrass me, well the likes of Clay Krueger, a proud member of the Coulter Crew, don’t take that sort of libelist slur lying down.”

Clay: “Oh, yes. Have a good laugh and a chuckle at my misfortunes. That makes you all feel better doesn’t it, to try and find the few moments of failure and shine a large spotlight upon them, as if it would at all improve your own pathetic lives. Let’s all point and ridicule the man who lost the Dual Crown Championship inside the Panoptican.”

As he says that last word, the camera swivels to see the deadly steel structure being erected around the ring and ringside area.

Clay: “But that’s really the story here, isn’t it? The Panoptican.”

That oh so familiar "Sick Or Sane" by Senses Fail replaces Carner's theme and the stage area fills with smoke and a series of small pyros are set off, telling us the Champion is here. Indeed Clay Krueger steps out from the back with a Dual Crown Championship on either shoulder as he makes the long trip to the ring, staring at the five men waiting to rip him limb from limb for the gold on his shoulders.

JH: And there is the TNT World, and the SLAM! Heavyweight Champion, Clay Krueger. His reign as Champion has been both impressive and marred.

CM: He has been the victim of circumstances! He didn't make Terry Cane, or Neo Carner, or Greater Maverick come out to his defenses. If you'll notice the two without interference he won!

JH: Quite true. Nonetheless this man has his work cut out for him if he is to leave here as he walked in, as Dual Crown Champion of Full Intensity Wrestling.

Krueger bypasses the extras and steps into the chamber and then the ring with his titles. He doesn't show boat, he just looks very focused on the task at hand.

Clay: “I did lose the Dual Crown Championship inside the Panoptican. Again, focus on those last three words. INSIDE. THE. PANOPTICAN.”

He looks up at the hideous and vile structure, all steel designed to hurt you and jagged, sharp edges designed to cut you open like an animal.

Clay: “How many of my opponents have competed inside this? Ninja Blood Explosion haven’t been here long enough. Mister Mizery hasn’t. I don’t believe they have this sort of thing in Korea for Sang-Hyon Lee. Blanco and Alejandro can’t even comprehend this exists. Yuki Sakaraba and Shaelin will show trepidation at the very thought. Valiente Dark might have been in one, maybe, Richlen hasn’t but he has competed inside the Hell in a Cell.”

Most recently Gustav David Richlen met Nick Riot inside the Cell, that was the last match of a two out of three falls match.

Clay: “I feel a sense of responsibility to my fellow competitors. Every single one of them. Well, all except the Richlen’s… obviously. You can just turn off now Gustav because whatever advice I give, I want you to disregard. You don’t the pleasure and to reap the benefit of my wisdom, we’ve come far too far for that. No use getting a tape of the last Panoptican’s, because there isn’t a tag team version.”

Up to the steps he comes, putting one foot on the stairs leading into the fearsome Elimination Chamber, which FIW refers to as the Panotpican. He looks up at the door, the arch over and all that steel.

Clay: “If the titles weren’t on the line, I wouldn’t do it again. It was too much of a risk to start with and that was 2012, when I was a much younger man carrying far less injuries. And we’re the guys who have to bear the brunt of this construction, this vile and horrible contraption. Steel doesn’t bend and bounce you back like the ropes or a canvas.”

Bravely, some would consider, he walks inside and for a moment allows the atmosphere to wash over him.

Clay: “All the steel, all the chain. Somebody’s going to get hurt, badly. Nobody walks out untouched, not a soul. It’s brutal. Human bodies aren’t designed to take punishment like that. You’re not the same man as when you walked in. It changes you physically and mentally…”

He tugs the title belt from his shoulder, one minute there, the next gone. Much like the Dual Crown, only this time he has experience to draw on.

Clay: “… I walked out a different person.”

The time ticks down as Clay Krueger walks to the back rather shell shocked amongst the crowd singing together "Nananana, nananana, hey-hey-hey, good-bye!" Though he doesn't seem to hear it. The door is shut and latched again as a timer on the screen ticks down twenty seconds to go.
