Moments after Crystal's promo, the scene opens back up on the woman who was eager to let her thoughts be known about the words that Crystal just said. Why, it's Crystal's opponent and co-Hellcats Champion, Mercedes Blackwell. Mercedes is sitting in a cafe somewhere in the U.K. She has her tied up and wears workout clothes. Either Mercedes just came from the gym or is headed there soon. A waiter places a cup of coffee in front of her and she thanks him with a smile and polite nod. "Mmmm... Mercedes tries to speak between sips of coffee and is slightly embarrassed for not being ready. "Perdoname. This cafe is delicious. This country is beautiful and it's a beautiful." She takes another sip with a smile. It's clear she's in England but her coffee might actually be Irish. "No, I'm not drunk. Or on drugs." Okay, well thankfully that clears that up. "I'm just thankful. I'm thankful to be employed again and I'm thankful to be able to be a co-champion. Why? Because of how much worse it used to be." Mercedes nods in a matter-of-factly kind of way. "I came from a horrible neighborhood with guns going off constantly. You couldn't walk home from school or you could wind up jumped. You couldn't be outside after certain hours and you never knew when you would lose friends who joined gangs or getting caught in the cross-fire of gangs. I never understood how hard it was back then, it was just....mi vida. It's how it always was. But then one day..." Mercedes holds up her index finger. "...one day I got a shot at being a wrestler and then I got decent enough to get signed to FIW. I made amazing friends, traveled the world and was able to get mi mama out of that neighborhood and into a home where she's safe and away from that old life we had. You take someone out of circumstances like that and then they appreciate where they've come from." Mercedes takes another sip of coffee. Her point isn't clear just yet, but hopefully she's getting there? "My point is that I've been through shit, a lot of it. And so has Crystal. We're both the best examples of coming from a difficult past, rising above it and being successful. We never let our past hold us back and we became champions. That's amazing and it's beautiful." Mercedes smiles again. "You went through hell to get respect, girl. You think I didn't notice? I noticed. I saw that man, Pike. He put you through hell and you beat him. He tried to break you and hurt you and you're still here. Not only did you get rid of him but you became a champion. You know how amazing that is? I went through the same with Kim Coulter. We're fighters, mama. It's why I like you and it's why I wanted to bury the hatchet. It's why I was so upset when you shook Xenia's hand." Oh no. Hopefully Mercedes doesn't open up that can of worms again. "But that's in the past now. You told me why and I understand. But our pasts don't define us, girl. It's why I feel peace and I feel happy right now. Because I know that no matter who wins, the fans are going to be getting a champion that they can be proud of. They're going to get a champion that can inspire them." Mercedes takes a sip of her coffee again. Then something seems to occur to her as she holds up her finger while drinking. "But that doesn't mean that I'm okay with a loss. And it doesn't mean that I'm going to take it easy on you, mama. No, the fans won't be happy or proud if either of us takes it easy. Not now. Not the Hellcats title and not a ladder match." Mercedes demeanor becomes a little more serious as her smile fades. She even crosses her arms in her chair. "You're right about not feeling content with this co-champions mess. I certainly don't feel like I really have that belt. It feels like it's just...suspended in air until one of us wins. And I get it, we don't have to be friends. But we can still respect one another and show everyone what two people that don't give up are made of. And I'm going to do that by not holding back, by giving you my all and beating the hell out of you. I hope you'll give me the same, Crystal." One might think Mercedes a bit crazy to ask for a beating but she just seems to love these types of matches. After all, she's been able to be successful in two "non-traditional" matches against Kim Coulter and Xenia, respectively. "I hope we beat the hell out of one another with the ladder, with our fists and anything else and we show the people in the U.K. and the world just exactly what two Hellcats are capable of. I mean you beat Sakura. A woman I could barely touch and put me on the shelf for months. I know you can bring it and I'm going to bring it too." Mercedes picks her coffee up and before she takes that sip... "Can't wait." Mercedes takes the sip then turns her body slightly to look out the window. The scene fades with her enjoying the scenery and her coffee. |
