Copypasta from my own notes. Will be better organized soon I swear Greatstorm: The large group of cats covering the large stretch of land between Twolegplace and the mountain. There are several sub-groups, but all of them follow the same leader. History of Leaders: Galestar: First leader of Greatstorm. A grey-furred, green-eyes she-cat rumored to have been able to command the power of the winds themselves. Her spitfire personality and indominable will led her to throw Rogueclan out of the area and claim the valley. Deceased. Fishstar: Galestar's much calmer, rational successor. A blue-grey she-cat who stabilized the group after Galestar's death and allowed it to expand and flourish. Deceased. Ashstar: Black tom with orange-streaked fur. Deceased. Shatterstar: Grey-furred, green-eyes she-cat, she was the sole daughter of Galestar. Deceased. Alderstar: Tom with mottled brown fur. Deceased. Ivystar: Black-furred, brown-eyed tom. Deceased. Hawkstar: Fierce she-cat most known for her striking golden eyes. Retired, currently an elder and retains much of her snappy attitude, even though her youth has long since left her body. Current Leader: Lightningstar: Grey-black heterochromatic tom. He is visibly battle-scarred and not quite as fast as he used to be. He's very stern, although he claims he has to be, to manage his small empire. He has no mate and few friends. He has not named a successor, a bit of a cause for concern. Notes on Greatstorm: Names do not follow much structure. Kits are named shortly after birth. Rarely, cats are renamed after particularly notable events. Names do not follow any pattern, some are two-part Warrior names, but not all. Kits begin training at roughly six moons, and upon starting training are known as apprentices. Apprentices are not assigned a mentor, and are instead taught collectively by whatever warriors happen to be on hand. However, over the course of training, the apprentice will usually pick up an unofficial mentor. Upon completing the rite of passage, young cats are accepted as full members of the group and called warriors. Pregnant or nursing cats are known as Queens, same as in the Clans. The leader is simply known as the leader. They generally name one or more deputies, although it is not required that they have one at all times. They are expected to name a successor if there is any kind of threat at hand or if they are thinking of retiring. The successor does not have to be a deputy and is not promoted to one upon being named, although they usually are for practical purposes. The leader attaches the suffix “-star” to their name upon taking up the position, one of the few warrior traditions that still lives to this day, and does not remove it if they retire. In the case of a new leader being promoted, the former leader's deputies stay deputies. Healers: Healers are the analog to medicine cats. They have extensive knowledge of herbs and treating various illnesses and injuries. Unlike medicine cats, there is little ceremony to them, and they are not regarded as mystical in the slightest. Any cat who wishes is allowed to train under a healer. Usually, apprentices will decide mostly through their warrior training that they would rather become a Healer, and study under a dedicated Healer. A Healer may also be a warrior, if they complete the rite of passage, though cats will generally dedicate themselves to one or the other. Usually there are no more than a handful of Healers at any given time. Some warriors have dabbled in the art of healing, although they are not recognized as Healers unless a dedicated healer names them as such. Healers are respected, though their apprentices less so until they prove themselves. Generally the most senior Healer is considered to be the leader of the Healers. The Rite of Passage: In order to be recognized as a full warrior, the cat must travel to the mountain and locate a particular cave. After finding the cave, the cat must take one of the strange rocks and bring it back and present it to the current leader. The rocks glow in the dark, and the leader will inspect the rock after night falls. If the rock is confirmed to have come from the cave at that time, the cat is promoted to warrior right on the spot, usually with a large announcement. A speech is optional. Several apprentices may travel together if they are all attempting the rite at the same time. However, no recognized warriors are allowed to accompany them, or tell apprentices where the cave is. There are actually two caves on the mountain, one on the near side, and one on the far side of the mountain. Apprentices are intended to go to the far one, but the rocks from the near cave are exactly the same. However, there are very few that know about the nearer cave, and those who do do not share the knowledge freely. |
