Nobody chooses the life of a Shaigai, the strange craft of illusions, trickery, and poison cannot be found in any book. There are no instructors to be seen, nor academies that anyone is aware of. The path is as murky and clouded as the legendary faction its self. The most information that one could easily uncover is that the Shaigai depends on her mask... You're out in the forest, gathering wood. You notice the woods growing dark and foreboding as the sun dips down towards the edge of the world, you should probably head back soon. You split one last log and roll up the stack with a large sheet of canvas. Retrieving your hatchet, you are distracted by a glint in the dirt. Uncovering the prize, what lies before you is a ceramic mask. Simple and white, it stares at you, blankly. You must take this mask. You hurry home for dinner. Later that night, under the faint glow of a single candle, you sit on your bed staring at the mask. The mask is flawless, you can see your own face reflected perfectly on its surface. Reaching out, you touch it, it feels cool and smooth, inviting. You take the mask and slowly bring it towards your face. It fits like it was made for you, staying on your face without any straps. You are no longer yourself, you feel this immediately, you are a Shaigai. As a Shaigai, you will not learn abilities in the traditional way, through books and trainers, rather your Shaigai abilities will simply unlock themselves as you adventure. The only constant is that you must be wearing your mask in order to learn new spells and techniques. The Shaigai are further unique in that they are a faction as well, and they will find you eventually. It is up to the player, however, to decide whether or not you will join them or refuse and risk the potential of being hunted down for the rest of your life. The higher you rise in skill, the more you will feel the draw of the other masks, and you will soon learn that your mask has direct power over any mask of lower ability. Be careful! Any nearby Herrophant or Arbiter can control your actions and thoughts while you wear your mask, but should you rise to these ranks... Edited by Tabris, Jan 22 2011, 04:42 PM.

Knowledges Illusion – The Shaigai practice a discipline that blends magick and physical skill to fuddle the mind and trick the eye. Language, Ancient – Over time, every Shaigai becomes fluent in the language of the masks, what is commonly referred to by scholars as the language of the Ancients. You'll find yourself able to read and write this ancient script as well. Tier 1 Skills Unarmored – Shaigai will instinctively learn to dodge, weave, and tumble to avoid damage. None of this can be done wearing restrictive armor. Survival – A Shaigai possesses all the basic skills to survive in the wilderness; making fire, hunting, gathering, building a shelter, and stabilizing wounds. Exotic Combat – All Shaigai eventually learn to fight in their own unique ways. Medium Blades – Shaigai may utilize single-handed edged martial weapons: --Daggers --Short Swords --Rapiers Exotic Weapon – Every Shaigai will find an appropriate tool for their style of fighting, these can be almost anything unconventional including, but certainly not limited to: --Blowguns --Flails --Scimitars --Hook Swords --Zweihanders --Throwing Spikes --Hand Scythes --Gambits --Scissors --War Picks --Chains --Boomerangs --Whips --Kaisurigamas Try and be creative! Tier 1 Abilities Shadow Craft – Through some physical motions, a Shaigai is able to pull existing shadows over herself, or another person or object. The shadows serve to hide, as long as whatever is hidden remains still. Cost 5 P. Smoke Screen – Using magick, the Shaigai can drop a thick cloud of black smoke to cover an escape or lose a tail. The cloud is 10 paces in diameter, black, scentless, and cannot be seen through until it dissipates after about 2 minutes. Cost 5 FP. Craft/Cure Minor Poison – With the right ingredients and tools, a Shaigai can craft any minor poison or remedy. Chicanery (prerequisite Shadow Craft) – The Shaigai may use their illusionary skill to fuddle the mind of an opponent, the effects depend on the intent. Whatever the effect, it is not permanent, it will serve to distract the victim for anywhere from 5-30 minutes. Cost 10 FP. Darkness (prerequisite Shadow Craft) – The Shaigai can exert her will over the shadows in any significantly small enough space (<200 square feet). By pulling at all the shadows in the corners, she can cast darkness over the entire room. The shadows will extinguish any light within their space other than direct sun light. Cost 10 P.
