Zane

The sight of Charles' body was something he wished he could have spared the kid. Zane sighed as he picked Noctis up and carried him outside the C&P house. While Perin was thinking about how to handle the situation, he'd have to deal with all the unintended visitors.

Zane walked a few meters before putting the boy down and squatting down in a sitting position. He looked at Noctis sympathetically. "I'm sorry Noctis. I wish you hadn't seen him that way but it is Charles."

He put his hand comfortingly on the boy's shoulder. "I know this is hard but Perin is doing the best she can to figure out what happened. And Charles would want you to stay strong, right? So we need you to leave and let us see what we can find out."

At this he eyed the girl with Noctis. A newcomer huh.

He wanted to try and turn Noctis' attention from the situation onto something more positive. "You wanted to play with the animals didn't ya? ell you what, I'll let you, but be mindful of Cere's though. She can be a bit cranky when Im not around."

Megumi

There was a certain numbness to death. No, actually, it was Megumi that was numb before death. A certain cold that swept through the body and numbed your mind. It may have been because of the fact nobody actually knew what death truly represented. Nevertheless, the fact she knew the dead person weakened the feeling. She glanced over the kid. He must have felt it.

She met Zane's gaze and nodded as a sign of greeting. Then, she moved closer.

"Noctis, we can probably try to feed the animals too." She petted the kid on the head, before she scooted closer to add, "And if you don't smile now, I'll have to tickle you." She wriggled her fingers under his armpits to emphasize her point.

She grinned. "Are you smiling yet?"

Noctis

"Yeah, I am now." He wiped the tears that had began to form. There really was nothing that he could do.

"Okay Zane. I will but you have to tell me who made Charles die when you find out the murderer okay?" he told him as he pulled Megumi towards the Animal tent. If he was right then his brother should be there.

"Let's go and play with the animals" he announced, hiding the pain and sadness in front of them.

Alek

Alek groaned and shifted in bed, trying to find the most comfortable spot. Shit, the bed was lumpy. He shifted some more. It didn't help. And now some idiots were yelling. Great. Just fucking great. Alek unconsciously reached up and yanked the pillow over his head, covering his ears. Ah, better. The voices weren't gone, but they were muffled now. Alek slept on.

He was tired, you see. Very much so. It had been a long day of sewing and sewing. Not that he minded. Alek loved his job. He didn't think so when he first began ("Sewing is a girl's job, Mama."), but he really had grown to love every single bit of it. And, of course, he'd grown to love Charles. Alek spent the first part of his life growing up without much male interaction; his mother had always been to afraid to go anywhere near them and he was too afraid to leave her alone. That had all changed when he turned twelve and was Apprenticed to the Master Tailor. Alek hadn't liked him much at first, his mother's fear of men rubbing off onto him in the form of distrust and anger. Within two months, however, the aging tailor had won him over. From then on, Alek was never seen too far from his Master who had, at that point, become his one and only beloved father.

That didn't mean that the two always got along, though. Charles loved teasing his protege. Even at seventeen going on eighteen Alek was still susceptible to the old man's taunts and jests. Just take that morning for example. Not that it mattered now. He'd finished not only his usual workload, but also Valeria's costume despite what his Master had said about his abilities. And it looked damn nice too. A long day of working had, as mentioned, left him damn tired. AND HE JUST WANTED TO GET SOME DAMN SLEEP. Ugh. But it didn't look like he would for many, many reasons.

First, as previously mentioned, the bed was lumpy. This was obviously not his bed. He must've fallen asleep at the Grey's book shop again. His bed was always on the iffy side, nothing like Alek's goose down. Second, the voices were getting louder and louder and the were NOT HELPING WITH HIS NIGHTMARE! Third, the nightmare. He didn't know when exactly the nightmare had started, but he wanted it to end already. Alek hadn't had a nightmare this horrible in years. In it he saw Val, angry and shaking; Daemon, idiotic and taunting; and Charles, maimed and dead. It horrified him to no ends, but he knew it was only a dream, so it was bearable. Only a dream...

"Rise and shine, Georgie!" someone yelled. Alek jumped. Great. Now he definitely wouldn't be getting any sleep it seemed. Alek squinted through tired eyes. Conrad. What the hell? What was the stupid man doing here at Grey's? Alek opened his eyes wider and looked around. Oh... this wasn't Grey's place. He was still at Tatwu it seemed. But where?

Alek didn't get to consider his position for much longer. Conrad had plans for him, apparently. The clown grabbed his shoulders and began to shake them savagely. "We've got a few things to discuss! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!" he roared. Alek shoved him off roughly.

"Oi. What the fuck do you want?" he asked, understandably irritable. Anastasia had raised Alek to be a proper gentleman (ironic, really, considering her relationship with his father and all) and Charles had reiterated the lessons countless times. Over the years, Alek had gotten used to the persona and maintained it 'round the clock. It was only ever broken when he was cranky and tired. Like now. At moments like these, he used the language he picked up from his many jaunts around town. The common men had such foul language. "I'm trying to sleep, you bastard. Fuck off, why don't 'cha."

The clown stopped shaking him, but he didn't move from his spot. And he was starting to stare at Alek's face... leering, really. It was getting to be rather creepy. Alek shuddered inwardly. Well, that woke him up. He sat up completely now that he was lucid and inched his body closer to the bed's edge. He took a few deep breaths, and then jumped up. He shoved his feet into his shoes (conveniently laying on the floor right next to the lumpy, substandard bed) and ran. "YOU'RE A DAMN RIGHT CREEP, CONRAD, YOU FUCKER. AND I'M TIRED. I'LL DEAL WITH YOU LATER," he roared as he ran.

Alek ran and ran. He didn't slow down, not when he'd passed into town limits and now when he'd reached the inner wards. He kept running until he'd reached Grey's Books And Antiques. It was then, as he knocked haphazardly on the bookseller's door did he realize something rather important. "I'm semi-naked and tired, Grey," he told the man when he'd open the door. Grey said nothing, only stepping aside and motioning Alek in as both suppressed tired yawns.

Conrad the Clown

"Well, that was a waste of time," Conrad remarked as Alek ran out of the tent. He knew he should've tied him down first.

How bothersome. It appeared the little brat was still trying to cling to his sanity, still trying to pretend that life made sense, still trying to go back to his life of plans and order.

Well, all it meant was that more weight had to be placed on Alek's mind. Soon enough he'd snap like a string suspending an anvil. Conrad recalled Alek's protectiveness over Valeria, even when he'd been arguing with her. Hm. Idea.

In the meantime, though, he ought to go for a stroll. He hadn't broken in his new hat yet, after all.

Valeria

Valeria had fallen asleep at some point in the night lost in her own thought. She awoke an hour or so before dawn, feeling still yet tired and stiff.

She got up and lazily put changed into a maroon and black corset dress. She then pulled her hair back into a bun of sorts and looked at her reflection in the mirror. There were slight circles under her eyes, no doubt the effects of bloodless and and rough night. She also looked about as tired as she felt. She sighed decided that with the way she looked, it would be best not to go without make up today.

Stepping outside the tent, she gave a sigh. She had no idea where to even start on things she felt like she needed to do. However, she knew one thing she had to do for certain was to check on Alek. She wanted to make sure that after the night's events, he was okay. She also wanted to make sure the infuriating girl Mischief hadn't done anything to him she's regret. Even if she found Alek annoying, but that wasn't to say she didn't care about his well being.

After looking around unable to find him at the circus and several people saying they hadn't seen him, there was only one place she knew he could have went to and that was the books and antiques store.

After tapping on the door to the shop a few times, Grey opened the door with a tired look

"How many non-store hour visitors am I gonna get? he asked with a yawn.
Valeria more or less ignored his statement. "I take it Alek's here. Mind if I come in?"

Gray stepped aside and it her into the foyer of the shop.

"Wait here and I'll go wake him up," he old here as he walked off scratching his head.

Grey entered the room Alek was in to find him sleeping like a log. Grey shook his shoulder a few times before speaking. "Hey Alek. Wake up. Its dawn and Valeria's here lookin' for ya."

Alek

"No. I don't wanna. SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. I NEED IT, GREY," he told him, wide awake in spite of his last comment. Grey raised an eyebrow sardonically. Alek took the hint. "Fine, fine, he said. Thanks for letting me borrow some jammies last night, by the way," he added. "Even if they are..." here he raised his hand; the sleeve well overlapped his hand, "a bit big... No matter. At least I'm not naked anymore." Grey's eyebrow shot up even more. Alek chuckled.

"You said Val was here, eh?"

Grey grunted. Hint number two taken. "Why don't you get some sleep, Grey. You look like you need it. Tell you what, I've completed all of my work at the circus; I can take over for you today."

"Are you su----"

"Don't even worry about it. It's not like this'll be my first time or anything. Just go rest, Grey."

Alek got up and stretched. Then, he continued to harangue his old friend until he finally relented and agreed to take the day off. Once he was quite sure that Grey wasn't going to pop in and demand that Alek let him work, Alek padded into the adjoining bathroom and washed up. Unfortunately, while he could clean his teeth and fix his hair, nothing could be done for his clothing. So, he merely folded up the sleeves as best as possible and went out to meet Valeria.

She was sitting in the foyer, skimming through a book about heavier-than-air flying when he entered the room. "So," he started, grinning wickedly, "Grey said you wanted to see me. What for?"

Valeria

Valeria looked over the top of the book at Alek curiously. For one, he was wearing clothes that where two sizes too big. And two, he seemed almost fine despite everything that happened before.

"What, is it wrong for me to check up on you?" She asked a she placed the book down. "I also wanted to make sure that Mischief girl hadn't done anything to you in your sleep. She already had you stripped down to your underwear in her tent."

"Anyway" she continued as she stood up, trying to remove the annoyed expression from her face the talking about Mischief had given her. " 'As much as I hate to say it, I waned to apologize about saying that girl could have been lying about her mother. There's just something about her I don't like.

She paused a bit before continuing. She new she had to approach the next part delicately, which for someone like Valeria, wasn't the easiest thing to do. She wanted to make sure he was alright but how to go about asking was tricky. "How...How are you holding up? I mean, last night had to be pretty hard on you, with your brother popping up and all. And then Charles..."

She cut herself off. Somehow, just saying something as blunt as as he 'was murdered' to Alek, a guy who had been closer to Charles than than he was to anyone else in the circus, it just felt wrong.

Alek

He waited until he was sure Valeria was done, then Alek shook his head. "What are you talking about Val? I'm fine. Though... I did have a dream about something similar last nigh, a nightmare, really." He walked around the room, trailing one finger against the books' spines. "I guess great minds think alike, eh?" He smiled sweetly.

"But anyways, Charles. He probably wants me to come back home now, right?" Here Alek sighed. "He never lets me have any fun. There's no reason not to today, though, I already finished all my work! He knows that I have the right to have the day off. I'm not the only tailor, you know," he added, turning back towards his partner. "Besides, I already promised Grey that I would help out with the shop today... Well, I insisted that I would. Either way, I can't leave the shop right now. Charles is just going to have to do without me for today."

Alek looked down at his clothing and screwed up his face in distaste. "Though, I do think I'll need a change of clothing. Could you get one for me, Val. The brown suit in the closet." He paused, "Yes, that one. I'm going to go do some inventory now. Knock when you're back with my clothes."

Valeria

"Alek..."

He thought everything was a dream? She knew that Charles' death must have hit him hard but not this hard.

How was she gonna tell him that the nightmare he believed himself to have had was actually the reality. She's have to do something to prove that nothing was a dream an that this was the truth. But what?

Only one idea came to mind, and it was an idea she hated.

She walked briskly up to Alek, turned him around to face her, and pressed her lips against his. She kissed him. Not a quick one either, she held it for a few seconds longer than she would have liked to get her point across. And then, as soon as she broke it, she slapped him across the face.

"I'm no sure how to say this, so I'm just gonna be direct. It...it wasn't a dream Alek. It was real. This is reality. That nightmare you claimed to have had, wasn't a nightmare. Its the truth."
