Welcome to Fear of a Name!

The current time of day is:
Late morning. Students are preparing to answer questions on their blood status at the Ministry of Magic to determine if they are fit to return to Hogwarts.

The current date is: Mid-August. There's still a bit of summer left before the school year starts.

The current weather is: Nice and sunny. The day looks beautiful and promising, but this won't hold true for the students who aren't cleared to go back to school.

Remember, fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself.

WELCOME TO FEAR OF A NAME

These are dark times, there is no denying. The Carrows have taken over Hogwarts. There's not a Muggleborn to be found. Students who rebel are getting tortured and beaten. Harry Potter, who was seemingly their only hope, has yet to appear. Things are looking pretty hopeless for these Hogwarts students. Can there possibly be a way out?

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Pick out a character and register. First and last name, please. Middle if you want, we're not picky. (ex: Jane Doe, Jane S. Doe, Jane Susan Doe)

A SHORT NOTE

We are not entirely restricted to canon. You can have an original character or a canon one, no matter how small his/her part in the book is. The smaller the part, the more imagination you get to have! You can pick any character that would have been a student at Hogwarts during Harry's seventh year except Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, because obviously they are not at Hogwarts during this time.

SECOND THINGS SECOND

Fill out an application, and submit it. An admin will look at it ASAP, and either sort you or help you fix any problems your application might have.

THIRD THINGS THIRD

Start roleplaying! Either jump right in to an open thread or post in the Plot section to plot with someone.

ANOTHER SHORT NOTE

We roleplay by periods. For instance, one period will be breakfast, and everyone will be at breakfast. Then it will be free time, and everyone will have free time. Your character can only be in one place at one, but feel free to sneak around the castle if your character desires.

The only exception to this is classes. Instead of having a Herbology period, we will simply have a class period. The teachers will open a thread for each year, and you are free to roleplay as many classes at once as you wish.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Get going!

Pruning the Weeds; Day One

Dolores Jane Umbridge entered the small courtroom, pink kitten heels clacking unpleasantly on the stone floor. Her smart pink dress contrasted dramatically with the low-lighting and the dark gray cement walls. With brisk, short steps, she made her way over to the large wooden desk standing in the middle of the room.

Sitting down, she pulled a large peacock feather quill, a pot of ink, and a large stack of parchment forms out of her bag, and placed them on the table in front of her. For a moment, she simply looked around the room, from the steel door with eight bolts, to the large, bloodstained crack running diagonally across the far wall, to the armchair sitting directly opposite her across the desk, where nevervous soon-to-be first years would sit as she told them they would never get to learn magic.

Dolores let out a short, strained sounding sort of giggle. There was nothing quite like pruning the weeds out of society to bring a smile to her face.

Ginny smoothed her skirt nervously as she walked into the courtroom with her dad behind her. She was the last of the Weasleys left who had to have blood status proven to go to Hogwarts. Ron wasn't going back because he had "spattergroit," but really, he'd run off with Harry and Hermione. Ginny was a bit jealous of him, but all the same, she wasn't even of age yet.

The skirt felt odd around her legs. Her father had told her to dress professionally, but Ginny didn't care for it. The sooner she got this meeting over with, the better.

She sat down in the chair that was clearly for her, and her father stood behind her, his hand gripping her shoulder firmly. Dolores Umbridge was in charge of the investigations, which was no less than Ginny expected. She smiled in an exaggeratedly sweet way. "Good morning Professor Umbridge," she said in a singsong voice, the same way they used to do every day in class, even though the woman was no longer her professor.

Dolores smiled, and tilted her head sideways, appraising Ginny Weasley as she sat down. Out of all the students she had to interview, Ginny was the one she was most looking forward to. The information she could get out of her, why, she's be second in command to the Minister of Magic in a week!

Taking the top sheet off the stack and dipping her quill in the ink, she poised her quill over the parchment. "Name? Age? Year? Blood status? Proof?" The questions were fired in rapid succession, with the shortest possible pauses between. They weren't important, really, Dolores knew all about the Weasley family. No, what would come next was what Dolores really wanted to know.

Ginny sighed and folded her hands in her lap. Umbridge had spewed out all the necessary questions in one breath. "Ginny Weasley, fifteen, sixth year, Pureblood," she said just as quickly. "My family's been under Pureblood records for ages, just look us up."

She took a deep breath and gazed reproachfully at her interviewer. "Is that it? May I go now?" she asked in the most polite voice she could manage. She didn't know what else there was to ask, unless... But Ginny wasn't telling her anything about Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Dolores took a moment to jot down Ginny's answers, and decided not to futher question her blood status. She was on the blood status registry list, and no one had any doubt about the purity of the Weasley's blood, even if they were the most dispicable sort of wizards there were. "Just a moment, Miss Weasley," she began, her voice a bit strained.

"Your family is friends with a certain Harry Potter, correct? Known connections with him? And you, yourself, have been rumored to have, shall we say, more than a simple family friendship with him. Where is Mr. Potter? He is a wanted criminal of the Ministry of Magic, after all, it is your civil duty to help in any way possible."

She waited for a moment here, and put her quill down in anticipation. There was no room for this information on the form. "Your brother Ronald, he is staying home from school because a nasty bout of Spattergoit, correct? A ministry offical verified? If he is this sick, perhaps you should also remain away from school. Spattergoit is remarkable contagious, after all." Dolores was threatening now, tell me what your family is up to, or you won't return to school. Tell me what your family is up to, or you will never see your friends again, never graduate, never fully join the wizarding world.

Of course she'd ask about Harry. Ginny had been expecting it from the moment she walked in the door. She'd been mad for a bit that Harry hadn't told her what he was planning to do, but now she knew it was for the best. This way, she couldn't give any information.

"Professor - I mean, Madam - I can honestly tell you I have no idea where Harry is. As you may know, my brother Bill was married on the first of this month, actually, and some... people came to call for Harry. He disappeared, and I haven't seen him since. No one has." Ginny's face slipped into a small frown. She was fairly certain that he was okay, but she was still quite worried.

She cleared her throat. "Yes ma'am, Ron is sick," she confirmed. She was a bit nervous now, but she tried not to let it show on her face. Her previous answer was complete truth, but there was quite a bit of fabrication involved here. "I haven't really been around him much. He's been confined to his room, see. They've put him in quarantine. No one's allowed to go in there but Mum, and even then, she has to wear a lot of protective clothing. I've been trying to remain out of the house as much as possible to avoid getting sick. Been staying with friends quite a bit." Ginny put on her best doe eyes and transformed her voice into that of a student whose primary concern was education. "I can go to St. Mungo's to pass a health inspection if you'd like. I just don't want to miss out on my NEWT classes this year."

Nodding slightly at Ginny's answers, Dolores pursed her lips. Something about her answers seemed off. Then again, though, she was fairly certain that Ginny did know exactly where Harry Potter was. "Miss Weasley, is it true that -" she broke off here, glancing up at Mr. Weasley. "Arthur? I appreciate you being here, but really, this is just between your daughter and I. You really should be getting back to work, shouldn't you? There have been several staffing changes lately, and we would all hate for your job to be in jepeordy simply because you aren't being productive."

She waited, meeting his eye and smiling broadly, daring him to stay. With one word from Dolores, he would be fired. Merlin knows that the Weasleys needed all the money they could scrounge up. Just look at Arthur's ratty old suit, and was Ginny's skirt made out of an old curtain? It was a shame, really, as purebloods they should be above this. Simpathizing with the wrong sort of people, however, would always hurt you in the end.

Ginny turned her head around and saw her father nod curtly. He bent down and whispered in her ear, "I'll see you later, Gin," and then he left. Ginny faced forward again and raised an eyebrow at Umbridge. She wasn't sure what was going on, but it couldn't be good. What was she going to do that Arthur couldn't witness? Use Veritaserum? The Cruciatus Curse? Ginny winced internally but kept a stoic face.

"You were saying, Ma'am?" she asked politely again, crossing her ankles and tilting her head to the side as though she was vaguely puzzled.

"Miss Weasley," she began, pushing aside the forms and quill, "You know something, something that you aren't telling me. We have ways to find out, and when we do, you will be punished most severly. You are a known rebeller, a known friend of the most wanted man in the world. Your family are known blood traitors, known sympathisers of Harry Potter, and known Dumbledore supports."

She leaned forward slightly, giving a short giggle and a small smile. "For the last time, Miss Weasley, where is Harry Potter? And while we're at is, where are that filthy mudblood whore Hermione Granger, and that little mudblood bastard Dean Thomas? You are known to be in contact with them as well." She said all this with a smile, spewed all this hate with the facial expression of someone offering you a biscuit at teatime.

Umbridge was sure that Ginny knew things. Things she didn't know. Yes, of course she knew what Harry was doing, but she had no idea where he could be.

She stood up. "Listen, I have no idea where Harry and Hermione are. I didn't even know Dean was missing. I thought he'd be here today to have his blood status examined. I don't know what you want me to tell you. I'd suggest you talk to Scrimgeor if he weren't dead. I reckon Harry told him more than he told me," she said somewhat bitterly. Even though she knew why Harry couldn't tell her anything, she still wasn't too happy about it.
