As the Marine Harriers take flight, the urgency becomes quite obvious as to slowing the KPA's advance, as Highway 7 from Goesong to Sokcho is a slow moving fire coming down from the north. So far, no hostile fighters have been detected by the Harriers or the two Navy destroyers. The Marines on the ground are greeted by their Korean counterparts, who are trying to set up defensive positions while coordinating the evacuation of Sokcho, which has thankfully been mostly diverted west to Highway 46 and not south along Highway 7, which would choke any line of withdrawal. 2nd ROK Marine Division has set up 3 defensive lines of their own with 1st ROK Marine Regiment setting up south of the bridge between the reservoir, behind line Edson. 5th ROK Marine Regiment has set up roughly perpindcular to line Carlson, to cover the south bank of the bridge crossing on Highway 7, NW of the city itself. 8th ROK Marine Regiment is covering the edge of the northwestern part of the city proper. Their 2nd Tank Battalion, made up of M48A3Ks, is serving as a mobile reaction force to reinforce any position requiring assistance. Their artillery, consisting of K55 (M109) self-propelled guns and KH179 towed guns, are setting up on the south bank of the reservoir. The plan, as the ROK Marine commanders are informing their American counterparts, is to stall the KPA once VIII Corps has fallen back through their lines. Given that they are facing at least 4 infantry divisions alone, plus support, it is not expected to hold Sokcho, and the withdrawal point is to Yanyang, near airport near Dongho-ri. (OOC: The airport is shown in Korean, so I cant tell you the name.) The ROKAF is only able to task two squadrons of mostly Tiger IIs right now. At present, the Marines have about half an hour to dig in. |
