I cant find anything earlier for a number one other than that Al Martino one, I would have been 12 then, but I dont recollect a top 20 any earlier, I do remember that the first record I ever bought was Stupid Cupid by Connie Francis, that got to number 1 in september 1958

I think my earliest memory of popular music was around 1953/54, although I had been brought up to listening to classical music and opera with my dad from being tiny. Dad hated the rock and roll era but, our Jeff was nine years older than me, so bought 78s from a shop called Norman Leather's across the road from where we lived and I started to enjoy listening to that as well. Mum always had the Light Programme on and I remember Perry Como, Guy Mitchell, Johnny Ray and all those. I'm wondering if you have in your collection Ann Shelton with Lay Down Your Arms. :D |

I've always like those old-style singers as well. Aitch, I'm going to pin this topic until you've managed to put all your clips on. It'll save you keep looking for it if it gets dropped down the board. More please. |
