I enjoyed the recording from the opera Pagliacci as well. It took me right back to my childhood when dad would play his opera in our best room, whilst mum listened to Guy Mitchell in the other room. Mum used to say that opera was a "load of owd rubbish!" :E

here's today's 3, but first a question, would you like me to put more on, or is 3 sufficient, please let me know, its up to you
Number 70 of the British number ones was this especially for Mollie so she doesn't forget her distant roots

and then my favourite lady singer for quite a few years May 13th for 3 weeks

last for now, number 72 just for 1 week June 24th 1958

at least they are a varied selection, so it proves we did like our music in the good old days.

I will put 4 on today, after having a good on up to now, been to the cinema and had a good meal with the grand kids and my eldest daughter, so I will share my day, by putting an extra tune on, so here is the first, the 73rd top spot in the UK, July 1st for 6 weeks

next this by the kallin twins

then this my all time fav, this was at the top for 6 weeks I think stupid cupid was the b side, but still a major hit,

and last but not least this number 76, the top for 3 weeks from Nov 4th 1958

enjoy them and the rest of the day, as I intend doing, now to get ready for an engagement party :D

Each one topped the British charts in their time, but some were one hit wonders to disappear, and only people like me to bring them to the fore again

next another good song, at least to my ears one of my favourites at the time, did 5 weeks Number 1 from Dec 16th

Another gud un, number 1 for just 1 week, Jan 20th 1959

and last for today the king again, the 80th British number 1, Jan 27th 1959 for 3 weeks

enjoy um, which will be more than I did at the bash last night.

Now that surprises me, Loki. I don't there are any artists or songs that Aitch has put on so far that I've not known. I'm just listening to Jane Morgan. Must be 50 years since I've heard this song. :E

Here's today's batch, this topped the charts on my birthday, 1959, it was there for 4 weeks

this managed 1 week from March 17th, still one I liked

and then a complete change of mood, this did 4 weeks at number 1 March 24th 1959

and lastly number 84, 3 weeks from the 21st April was this one

that's all for now sit back and enjoy the show.

Every time I hear The Platters singing Smoke Gets in your Eyes, it always reminds me of the old Esso Blue Advertisement from years ago. Which is in a way sad, because the song was to good to have been used in that way.
