A topic for those interested in musicals to discuss their favourite shows and songs from them. I'm a big fan of them as im very musically inclined so it would be great to hear other peoples opinions :) |

Now then, oddly enough, I'm going to see if I can find Calamity Jane on YouTube this weekend, if I have the time. I do like musicals, especially the old ones like South Pacific, Sound of Music and others. Which are your favourites, Jess? :D |

I've heard of a few of those Mollie, i also like the sound of music, chicago, chess, west side story and wicked to name a few. Chess is being played in bristol at the beginning of march and really want to go and see it especially as I performed in it at high school. I've been hinting at my boyfriend to take me but not sure if he will as musicals aren't really his thing, would be nice to go though. |

I don't think musicals are really a man thing to be honest with you. Gordon hated them, but another one I loved as well was Paint Your Wagon. Now Gordon enjoyed that film very much but, every time a song started, he tutted and he'd start jabbering through it! :E I've never seen the more modern ones, but I suppose Dirty Dancing was classed as a musical and I absolutely loved that. |

Les mis is another cracking one as well, I suppose your right about it not being for men Mollie but I went with him to watch his football team and I cannot stand sports so he doesn't have to like it lol :) Amy I loved the phantom of the opera film but haven't watched it being performed, that's definitly one id like to watch at the west end, wizard of oz would be good too. |

Wizard of Oz is absolutely stunning and, considering it was made in (?) 1939, it is colour film in its infancy, but absolutely spectacular. The film starts in black and white, but ..... won't tell you except to see that it does become colour quite soon into the film. You can watch it on YouTube though lass, if you can stand having to keep clicking onto the next part. I've lost track of how many times I've seen it, and still enjoy it after all these years. Yep, you spelled Les Miserable correctly, although I've never seen that, nor have I seen Phantom of the Opera as a musical, but I did see the original film with Herbert Lom as the Phantom many years ago, and it was very moving. I enjoyed Grease as well, but I prefer the classical musicals as opposed to the contemporary ones. However, having said that, I could never get fed up of watching Dirty Dancing as I did love Patrick Swayze. {{Who didn't}}! :D |
