This is so very sadly true, Jon. This is why I fear for mankind, that they would have to hunt and kill something they do not understand. Why kill at all? This is why I could never go into any establishment (restaurant etc) that portray animal heads on the walls as some sort of decoration. That really sickens me. Every creature on this earth has a right to its own existence. It upsets me when people say they HATE spiders, ants or whatever, or any other creature that can do us no harm. It saddens me greatly that as humans we have little understanding for creatures other than ourselves which is selfish. I stand by the wording over my signature over all my posts, and I always will. If the "nessie" creatures, or Sasquatch do exist, I hope they will be left in peace to continue their existence, as we are allowed to also. On the other hand, if they do offer a threat, then we have to act acordingly, but not to kill. Never, ever to kill. We don't have that right. :sadno: |

On a similar vein I don't like caged birds or reptiles, fish in tanks, or any imprisoned 'pet'. I don't even like Zoo's for the same reason. Having a pet that can come and go as it pleases is fine but nothing that has to be enclosed all its life. Edited by Wickerman, Feb 22 2011, 02:40 AM.

100% agree with that, Jon. No creature should be caged or otherwise imprisoned for the entertainment of humans. That is so very wrong. I probably shouldn't say this, but I have always kept my kitchen window open so that my cats can come and go as they please. I have had budgies in the past, but their cages were always left open so they could also come and go as they pleased as well. |

Mollie do you remember some years ago. Just after Jaws was a massive hit in the cinema's. A British Movie maker started work on a movie about a giant Pike in Windermere. I do not think it was completed but they did make a giant remote controled Pike. I wonder where the pike is now.? :chin: |

I have found this link to a site about a Giant Pike In the early 1980's Cliff Twemlow* wrote a book based around the story of a massive killer pike in Windermere lake. Later there was an attempt to make a film of "The Pike", starring Joan Collins. Unfortunately the budget could not be raised despite Collins’ star power and Twemlow and Collins promoting the film on the BBC’s Look North programme. During the promotion Joan appeared on a BBC TV Tomorrow's World special featuring the innovative and technically advanced mechanical Pike, made especially for the film. The Mechanical Pike apparently now resides as an exhibit of robotics in Japan. Ever since the speed limit was reduced on Windermere lake noise and pollution has been greatly reduced. A walk around the lake these days no longer involves listening to the sound of jet skis and spoilt boy racers in daddy's speedboat. Otters have even been spotted! Could this be the ideal time for the killer pike to return to the surface of Windermere? The Killer Pike hunters have just taken delivery of a copy of this hard to find book and intend to re-read it, with their feet up, on the shores of Windermere lake http://www.killerpike.co.uk/ |
