Just wanted to put this topic up as respect for those lost in the earthquake at Christchurch. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected, such a tragic event.

Australia and now New Zealand. For such catastrophic events to take place in those countries is unprecedented.

I don't do praying, but that doesn't stop me from thinking and feeling deeply about those poor folk, along with people from other parts of the globe that have suffered great losses.

It puts things into perspective doesn't it, when we whinge about the weather here. In't it hot, in't it cold.

I think Mister Wickerman could enlighten us as to why these things are happening. The jury's still out for me as regards global warming, but I haven't studied it like he has done. :(

Funny thing about New Zealand is that it sits on a fault line, like both Iceland & Haiti, but the fault line does'nt cut straight through.
The north island is divided in a diagonal fashion, in such a way that the direction of movement is east-west. The eastern plate is pushing under(?) the western plate. Yet the south island, where Christchurch sits, is divided almost longitudinal from north to south, and one of the plates (west?) is pushing north while the other (east?) is pushing south.
It will happen again..

The two Earthquake topics have been merged so that people don't get confused between the two.

It makes me wonder if we're all sitting on fault lines. We've had minor earthquakes here in Great Britain, not of great magnitude, but earthquakes nonetheless. We've also experienced mini typhoons as well. Not only were they reported in the press, but one whipped its way down our road many moons ago. There was absolutely no doubt about it whatsoever. It was at low ground level, but it shimmied it's way along and I thought my windows were going to come crashing in.

Missus Bunny yes, Ann is also in Ontario, but it's a big place.

I didn't feel it, but Ann would say, "where there's no sense there's no feeling"
